The tend not to put all the clues in the exact same place unless something else needs to be worked out beforehand to avoid this type of situation.
If it is a 'find the clue' task, there will probably be four clues located on seats.

In my mind one of the very best luck based searching tasks (probably only Hay bales is better) and it was on the Family edition for christ sake.

Well its not all down to luck (though luck is a big factor in a searching task), but speed and paying attention are also very important
But really how is that different then any number of legs where luck based transportation (ie cabs) save/ or doom a team. One of the reasons I hate using individual public transportation and prefer larger scale (bus, train, plain, subway) and driving, running, walking one self.

We know The Trotters and Cheyne Meghan arrive about the same time
We see Cheyne waiting to climb down to the wires stating that the Trotters are holding him up on purpose

at 10:00 we see a camera man getting ready because here come who I believe are Cheyne/Meghan The Trotters and the brothers in the raft 10:02
