I have a pet peeve about this word. As spelled, it means the head position in certain forms of government, sometimes used interchangably with "prime minister."

The word you are lookimg for is "premiere."

I really don't want to undermine the schnauzers point because I believe in good spelling and grammar and use of the correct word. However, the word premier in its current usage can occasionally mean first, which for an event is also the main definition of premiere. In the case in question which started this line of logic, the word "premier" was mixed with the word "premiere." I consider that unacceptable and with the schnauzers I strongly prefer the use of "premiere" for such events.
