Exclusive: Cara Rosenthal, Jaime Edmondson talk 'Amazing Race'
By Reality TV World staff, 05/13/2009
Reality TV World: First of all, congratulations on finishing second
Jaime and Cara: (in unison) :talk
Reality TV World: What was your reaction when you got to that final Roadblock and saw that Luke was already practically done and Victor seemed to have already pulled quite a few of his boards [as well]?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: But at that point, were you optimistic still at your chances of winning or did you kind of begin resigning yourselves to not winning?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: So did you guys know that was the absolute last task at that point or were you still hoping that there might be something else after that?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: So until Tammy and Victor got their clue and you overheard them or whatever...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Okay...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: So both of the other teams seem to have anticipated that there was going to be a task at the end that had something to do with remembering everything that had happened on the race before that. Was that the same case in your situation?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: But did you just take them or had you been studying them on the plane rides, you know, apparently like Luke [had]?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk :talk
Reality TV World: During that task, it almost seemed like instead of pulling his boards off and taking them over to the side [to his private mounting area], Victor was kind of just pulling them out of the pile and putting them a little bit on the side. Were you ever tempted to take a look at what he had over there?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
EDITOR'S NOTE: Like most other teams in The Amazing Race history, Jaime and Cara were shown working with other teams or looking at how another team was completing a task several times during the season, including during the finale episode when they was shown completing their pig luau task after Jaime looked at Tammy and Victor's progress and noticed they had removed their incorrect palm frond leaves. In addition, the finale also showed Jaime stating she never would have completed the finale Roadblock without Luke's help.
Reality TV World: Yeah, but weren't there some situations...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk :talk
Reality TV World: No, I understand that, Cara, but there was a point before Victor took them over to his area where they were just off on the side.
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk :talk
Reality TV World: Okay, that's fine...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk :talk
Reality TV World: Once Victor and Tammy left the Roadblock there was that point there where you guys came to the decision to work with Margie and Luke to help each other finish the task and who ended up going first [in revealing the other's missing symbol] basically ended up determining who finished second and who finished third. How did you guys determine who was going to help whom first?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Cara, you had comment at the end where it seemed like for a split second you were worried that Jaime was going to leave the Roadblock without honoring her end of the deal with Luke. Was that the case, or if not, what was the comment actually about?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: It was comment where after you guys had completed the Roadblock task you were telling Jaime to help Luke -- to tell Luke what [his missing board] answer was. It seemed like you had some concern that she was going to leave the Roadblock...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: No, I'm not...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: No, I'm not making that implication at all, I'm simply asking Cara what that comment was about.
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk :talk
Reality TV World: I understand that Jaime, I'm trying to understand what Cara was thinking at the time when she made that comment.
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously again) :talk :talk
Reality TV World: Nobody's accusing you of that Jaime, I'm just trying to understand why Cara made that comment
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Okay. Jaime, did you really call the police for directions [during that Maui cab ride]?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: So you don't think your [own] behavior was inappropriate or anything?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: I'm not talking about asking to call dispatch, I'm talking about the comments and the way you were berating the driver...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: [But] I would think that as a [former] police officer...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: So when you were a police officer, would you have deemed calling 911 for that type of a situation to be appropriate behavior?
Jaime: I'm -- you're really rubbing me the wrong way.
EDITOR'S NOTE: 911 is intended for genuine emergency use only. Illegitimate or frivolous use is increasingly choking 911 systems nationwide and resulting in critical delays for callers that are experiencing a genuine emergency. Non-emergency use of the 911 system can result in fines or jail time in several states. Please do not attempt what you saw on TV at home.
Reality TV World: I'm just asking a question...
Jaime: If you're going to treat me this way then I'm not going to have an interview with you.
Reality TV World: I'm just asking a question Jaime. If you don't want to answer it that's fine, I guess, but...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Okay, so there were a lot of scenes on the show where your behavior -- the way you were treating your drivers in general, not just in Hawaii -- seemed to give, you know, an "ugly American" impression. Are you saying...
Jaime: ...obviously this is a role that you want to take so (unintelligible)
EDITOR'S NOTE: Jaime appears to leave the call
Reality TV World: So Cara, are you saying that you regret some of that behavior?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Yeah, do you regret any of that or you just saying that's the way it was and, you know...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Collectively as a team...
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
(A female voice whispers 'the edit')
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Were you aware [during] that pig-carrying task in Maui that part of the problem seemed to be the pig was unbalanced on the pole? It seemed like the pig was practically touching you most of the time when you were struggling to carry your end of it.
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Yes, I'm sorry
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
EDITOR'S NOTE: Jaime appears to rejoin the call
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk :talk
Reality TV World: Given what happened to Kisha and Jennifer on last week's episode, there's been a lot of discussion about exactly what people would be willing to do for a million dollars....
(Jaime and Cara laugh)
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
Reality TV World: Can you tell me, how did you guys end up on the show? Who originally applied and why?
(Unintelligible, Jaime and Cara talking simultaneously) :talk
(Jaime and Cara laugh)

The Amazing Race: Jaime and Cara Allege Other Teams Were Fakers
by Sara Bibel
Nobody expected cheerleader Jaime and Cara to end up the highest ranking all-female team in the history of The Amazing Race. The duo never won a leg. Jaime was this season’s designated Ugly American. Yet, despite a taxi driver who took them on an unplanned detour, they came in second. Jaime and Cara sound off on getting the villain edit, why they were more authentic than some of the other teams, and winning the prize America didn’t get to see.
How long did you stay at the surfboard challenge before you and Luke decided to share information?
Jaime: It was pretty much immediate. Once Victor was gone and Luke and I were only missing one surfboard his Mom said, “Why don’t you just work with Jaime?” and we did. When you’re on the Race you have no concept of time. A minute felt like an hour.
How much time did you lose because your cab driver didn’t know where he was going?
Cara: We lost about 45 minutes. It was a pretty substantial amount of time.
Why did the cab dispatcher get so angry when you called to ask for directions?
Jaime: I don’t know why she chose to be so unhelpful. I would think that if you work for a taxi company and one of your drivers calls you I don’t know why the company would choose not to help the taxi driver. I imagine we weren’t the first team throughout the day to call. I’d like to believe at that point she was busy with other work and just couldn’t continue to help.
The two of you seemed to have bad taxis throughout the race. Do you think it was chance? Or were you cursed?
Cara: It was luck. So much of this game comes down to luck. The tasks were definitely not easy for anyone. To be able to survive without ever getting where we needed to go in a timely fashion is something we should both be very proud of.
Did you think you had a chance of catching up with Tammy and Victor when you finished the surfboard challenge?
Jaime: No. Once we got the clue that said, “Go to the finish line,” there was no hope in my mind, barring a flat tire or some sort of major penalty. We were proud to be the highest ranking female team.
Why do you think no all female team has won yet?
Cara: Like we were talking about earlier, it doesn’t have anything to do with gender. It really is just a matter of luck. Had our taxi driver not got lost, we could have come and gone before Victor and Tammy showed up.
How do you feel about Jaime getting the “villain edit”?
Jaime: I knew going in to this race that I would be giving up certain things to follow my dream. I’ve wanted to be on this show since the first season. I was okay with the trade off of the way I suspected I’d be edited. I’d rather be the villain than be edited as a dumb cheerleader. If there’s one thing Cara and I are not, we are not dumb cheerleaders. I assume many people thought that was going to be our character.
Cara: I think that we were also really proud of our edit in the sene that it’s very real. We didn’t fake it, not for one second. We didn’t fake our friendship. We didn’t fake our relationship. We didn’t fake moments where we were frustrated with each other. We were real from the start to the finish. Not every team that we raced with can say that.
Jaime: Watching it back or hearing people say, “I don’t want that team to win because she’s a bitch,” so if you’re watching reality television you’d rather see a team win that wasn’t being themselves? That was trying very hard to be another character because they were so concerned about what the world’s going to think about them? There were a lot of people in our cast who were not themselves. We knew them behind the scenes and their characters on the show were not the same. I think it’s funny that these big time reality fans were not fans of the team that was real.
Who was being fake?
Cara: I don’t know if it was necessarily one person or team. People’s relationships with each other have turned out to be different than they were presented as.
Jaime: They were dating, yet in reality they’re not dating. They’re friends, yet in reality they had only met each other twice.
What went through your minds when you found out you made the final three because Jen took a bathroom break?
Cara: We were sure we were last because when my food came out of the fryer — and I use that term loosely, we’re talking light frying at best — Jen was already hailing a cab. When I took my first bite they were in their cab. We were positive when we got to the mat that we were done. When Phil said we were third, you saw Jaime’s utter shock. You didn’t see when she collapsed. I was like, “Wow I just ate a lot of interesting and unique delicacies really fast.” We actually felt bad for Jen and Keisha. I know they weren’t feeling that sense of urgency that they might have if we were even eating at the same time. I don’t think anyone anticipated how quickly I would suck those little critters down.
Does it bother you that you never came in first in a leg and missed out on all those great prizes?
Jaime: That’s not true. We won jet skis for coming in to that pit stop first. It didn’t surprise me and Cara that they didn’t show that part because it made a lot of people happy to think that we didn’t get anything.
Kynt and Vyxsin are Fancast’s celebrity Amazing Race bloggers. They have this question for you: Girls! We loved your fiery spirits and never-say-die attitudes! We felt you guys were “cursed,” however, when it came to clueless taxi drivers! This past weekend, as you two rushed around at TarCon and the Race Finale parties, have the New York taxi drivers been any better for you? Has the curse finally lifted or are you still battling your drivers from the backseat?
Cara: No. We had a wonderful New York taxi experience.

slayton:
The only other team of "friends" on this season was Christie & Jodi.
I still remember an insider video from episode 3, where Jaime & Cara talked about Christie & Jodi, so I wouldn't be surprised if they still held a grudge against them.
The only other possible "fake" teams are Preston & Jennifer and Amanda & Kris, because all of the other teams are either married or family.
