Well Robert did come back and his team was not happy but in the end Robert got his and went ba bye anyway  :waves:
The men won a fab trip to Vegas too by the way

Robert may be overrated by many. He got to the final 6 of AK5 before injury forced him out, but he was not going any further because he did not have the chef skills to reach the final 4. In HK6, he was totally unimpressive in his one episode as part of the Red team. He was helpful in orientating the women on a number of points, but he failed to produce himself. He was not part of the Blue team mentality, which flourished in his absence. He appeared to me to be set in his ways and not capable of learning a lot of new skills. No tears should be shed for Robert's departure.

Now, let me open a can of worms by stating that the comeback and elimination of Robert looks like a typical producer Arthur Smith gimmick. I believe that there is a greater than 50% probability that Robert's medical diagnosis was much more negative than he reported. I think it may have prohibited him from further participation in Hell's Kitchen. Why didn't Ramsay mention anything about Robert at the beginning of the service? He had stated publicly that if Robert did not return he would be eliminated. I think they attempted to put one over on us, not exactly the first time HK producers have tried that. I think Robert's return at the last minute was stage managed and his defeat was preordained. Would Robert make the kind of simple errors that he was shown doing last night? I don't think so. I believe that he did them on purpose to make the case for his own elimination since he could not continue anyway.

It's time for my HK6 ep. 7 Recap. This one will have some drama! I promise.

This episode opened with a High Roller challenge. What looked like dodecahedral dice (that would be 12 sides) had a letter on each face. Each team rolled the dice 6 times, one for each chef and one representing the absent Robert. The letter revealed on top would be the first letter of an ingredient to be selected for that team to use to cook a dish. Here are the results:

RED TEAM
Suzanne R for Rabbit
Amanda H for Haricot Verts
Tennille T for Potato
Sabrina G for Garlic
Ariel another H for Ham Hocks

BLUE TEAM
Andy H for Haddock
Dave F for Figs (Kevin thought it should have been Fennel and argued with Dave about that)
Van A for Angel Hair Pasta
Kevin A for Apples
Rolling for Robert T for Tomatoes

Teams have 30 mintues to cook those dishes. Ariel does the Garlic into a puree and it has a very strong flavor so Tennille tells Ariel to soften it with sugar. Ariel ignores her and later Ramsay comments on the same thing.

The Red dish is Roasted Rabbit, pan-roasted w/ rosemary, green beans, garlic puree.
The Blue dish is Braised Haddock with a delicious sauce featuring figs and tomatoes and apples plus over angel hair pasta.

If you are a continuing reader of my HK6 recaps, you know that I believe the prize determines who wins the challenge. This one was a night in Las Vegas. Which team do you think won? Ramsay declares both dishes as worthy and awards the victory to the Blue team due partly to too much garlic flavor in the puree. The Prize Prediction would clearly indicate that the men would win if you knew about the Las Vegas trip prize.

The Blue Team goes off to LAX, then by Southwest Airlines to Las Vegas, then by limo ot the Palms Resort and Casino. There they have the Hardwood Suite with jacuzzis for each one, a half-basketball court, and a well-stocked bar. They return to LAX and Hell's Kitchen sometime the next morning.

The Red Team has a miserable day ahead. It is Delivery Day, so any trucks arriving with provisions must be unloaded and their contents put where it belongs. In addition, the women had to clean both kitchens (pehaps not too bad because the challenge had not disturbed them much) and prep everything for the the upcoming dinner service for both the Red and Blue kitchens. They finish late at night, but then one final delivery arrives at 115am and they are woken up to unload wine cartons for Jean-Pierre.

The next day dinner service is about to commence. After the Blue Team had just discussed how much better it had been without him, Robert returns unexpectedly (unless you know how FOX producers think; see my prior posting on this subject). Ramsay announces there will be Chef's Tables in each kitchen for the first time in Hell's Kitchen. Sitting at them will be 2 executive or senior chefs from his New York restaurants and 2 more from his Los Angeles restaurant. Each team will be responsible for taking care of these special guests. The dining room is fully booked, so cheftestants will be hopping this episode.

Hell's Kitchen is opened and the guest chefs arrive. Dave is attentive, but perhaps oversteps his bounds by ordering risotto for the 2 in at the Blue Chef's Table. The Red team overlooks the chefs at their Chef's Table for more than 10 minutes but eventually an order of scallops is taken.  The Blue guest chefs are impressed with the risotto served them and Dave starts the evening with high marks, with Ramsay noting the outcome. The scallops Ariel serves do not meet the same acclaim. They are not sent back, but they are not judged first-rate.

Van is on the Fish Station (a natural since he is a seafood chef) and has a problem with leaving waxed paper on fish to be discovered by the diner. She returns it and Van is in trouble with Ramsay. Then exactly the same thing happens a second time. Now Van is in deep trouble. The Blue Chef's Table was now the one neglected. It looked like Van was the culprit again, as he offered them menu choices of fish but no meat. Amanda and Tennille do well in getting their food out. Robert is struggling with lamb. Ramsay disgustedly orders him to redo them by making the meat twice as wide as the bone (the last time this came up in a prior episode, it was only "wider than"). Robert is sending out rabbit uncooked. Ramsay is really upset by this and shuts down the Blue kitchen, which has almost certainly lost this service. The feedback from the Chef's Tables was then revealed. The Women did well and those chefs would return. The Men did poorly,as their Guest chefs did not want to come back. The women win and are ecstatic. Dave is singled out by Ramsay as the "best of the worst" even with his disability limited him severely. He is charged with nominating 2 Blue chefs to be considered for elimination.

Dave ponders his alternatives, but does the right thing and nominates Robert for his having a bad night and Van for his problems with the waxed paper reaching customers twice. Andy was also considered but his sins that night were not significant even though his prior record is bad. So Robert and Van are called forward by Ramsay. he continues to ask Andy to join them. Robert snipes hard at Andy, but finally Ramsay calls for order. He tells Van he needs to fix his carelessness ASAP, but go back into the line. He tells Andy ... to go back into the line. He tells Robert to take off his jacket and leave Hell's Kitchen. He says that he expected much more from Robert's experience. Based on last night's performance, that was the right decision.

TexasLady:
You could be onto something. It was a foregone conclusion that Robert was going to be the one to leave. I thought it was odd that all of a sudden the Blue team started bad mouthing him. He surely knows how to cook better than he did in this episode.

For me, the only two who stand out, Kevin and Dave, no one on the Red team impresses me.

One more comment about Robert. It makes me sad to see him so heavy. He has skills and leadership ability,  I hope he can deal with whatever his issues are, he has some, he's hiding behind his weight.

apskip:
TexasLady,
It's not good for his health but what can you do. I have 2 children in their early 20s and they are not as big as Robert but still too large. I am very unhappy about this, but what impact does what I say have on adult children? The impetus to be right-sized has to come from within or you just can't get there. Weight loss is a very difficult thing to accomplish. Witness the millions of adults who are continuously trying it without permanent success.
