Amazing Race 14 Ratings
mswood:
Oh we can't judge the season based off of just this one episode (nor would I get to worried about this week's which historically is going to perform probably between 7.5 and 8.5 million viewers thanks to the Academy Awards).
We are also going to lose some (how much is still uncertain) due to those whose stations switched to digital and don't have either Cable (or dish), already have HD, or don't have a digital converter box. This could be 10,000's to much higher. BUt that one should effect all programming and not just one show or one night.
But, even if the show doesn't peak up much for this cycle and with the lower ratings of cycle 13, CBS is extremely likely to renew it. TAR has a wonderful advantage (over scripted hour longs) in that it can serve three purposes. It can act as regular prime time programming (2 cycles a year in the Fall and Spring, what we all want the most), it can act as a replacement programming (for when shows perform poorly and CBS needs a quick replacement, see last year with cycle 12), and it can perform as original summer fare.
Really the question is how does CBS see the show for its coming year. And if the ratings don't pick up much, I can see them not going with the first option. But I would say they would pick option 2 at the very least. Its demo performance pretty much gives us that, if nothing else.
But if the show can pick itself up to last cycles levels, I see two full cycles.

A lot of people might know that you can now watch current episodes on the Travel Channel, and the CBS website as well then theres always youtube, torrents and all that crap.
Also I just read at sucks that it can be bought, the whole season? for 20 some $$, on Itunes but haven't checked that out.
Lots of good feedback in the media too, they gave episode 1 rave reviews and hopefully it sparks peoples interest.
Darn Oscars this Sunday #$%$%#% HATE!

Puddin OMG I am so excited to that CBS has finally jumped on the itunes bandwagon for TAR.
As someone who has hated that you can't get DVD's of teh show (for the most part) that CBS should make that content available for sale somewhere digitally. It cost the studio literally almost nothing, and while they only get between 1/3 to a half of the cost back, its still better then someone like myself who will torrent the show, but will also buy copies to support my show.
Oh and we are currently the top selling season of Reality TV, over Survivor (which has a far larger US fan base), thats a good sign.
I'm downloading my first episode right now to compare the quality.

Let us know how it looks mswood. On another note, Nascar will most likely run through 8:00 ET as well this Sunday :groan:
mswood:
It looks a little better then the illegal versions out there, but not as good as the HD broadcast (of its none HD source).
And even though itunes (or other digital sights) don't generate a ton of sales, every little bit does help.
