--- Quote from: RealityFreakWill on February 08, 2009, 03:11:15 PM ---I guess we'll find out who all the partners are during the name dropping tonight.
One team we already know is Chuck and Julianne. I thought she wasn't dancing this season. Probably changed her mind because she is dancing with her boyfriend.

Nope. She announced that she would not do both DWTS season 8 and season 9, but wasn't sure which one she would do.

'Dancing With the Stars' goes for the 'unpredictable'
Friends, family and felons are the dominant themes on the latest installment of ABC's hit Dancing With the Stars.
The celebrity ballroom hoofer contest opens its eighth season March 9 (8 ET/PT) with singer Jewel facing off against her husband, professional rodeo champ Ty Murray — the show's first celebrity couple competing in the same season. DWTS popular dance professional Julianne Hough will be paired with her boyfriend, country singer Chuck Wicks, and DWTS pros Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy just got engaged.
The show also will feature Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, at 17 the youngest competitor to date.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," she says.
Pro athletes have won four of the past five DWTS crowns; three others have been runners-up. Johnson says she hopes her athletic training offsets any dance angst. "It'll help, but this isn't in my comfort zone," she says.
Reality TV prankster Steve-O, former NFL star Lawrence Taylor and rapper/actress Lil' Kim also are scheduled to perform. Steve-O, 34, was placed on probation last year after admitting to possessing cocaine. Kim, 34, was jailed for 11 months on a 2005 federal perjury charge. In the 1990s, Taylor, 50, pleaded guilty to income tax evasion and was charged with possessing cocaine.
"We've gone for some unpredictable people," says executive producer Conrad Green. "Once you have someone with one leg (Heather Mills), a deaf person (Marlee Matlin) and an 82-year-old (Cloris Leachman), it's hard to push the boundaries. An air of wildness doesn't hurt."
"One thing nice about this show is you see people in a different light," Green says.
That doesn't mean TV's No. 2-ranked series isn't difficult to cast, says ABC senior talent producer Deena Katz. Scores of celebs want on, but mixing and matching them, achieving the right chemistry and a 15-week time commitment weed out prospects, Katz says.
"It's a jigsaw puzzle," she says. "You can't always go with a supermodel or someone from a boy band. There is something about football players, though."
Rounding out the celeb cast:
•Actor Gilles Marini, 33.
•Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, 58.
•Actress Denise Richards, 37.
•Comedian David Alan Grier, 53.
•Access Hollywood co-host Nancy O'Dell, 42.
•Singer Belinda Carlisle, 50.

Dancing’s Season Eight Cast Is Revealed!
In a new twist, the season eight cast of Dancing with the Stars was revealed during commercial breaks in between ABC’s Sunday night primetime lineup.
The “namedropping” of the 13 contestants began at the eight o’clock hour when Extreme Makeover: Home Edition aired, and continued throughout the telecasts of Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters.
For the first time on the show, a celebrity couple — singer Jewel and her husband, rodeo star Ty Murray — will compete against each other. In another first, two-time Dancing champ-turned-country-singer Julianne Hough will compete with her boyfriend, country singer Chuck Wicks.
“It’s the most diverse cast we’ve had,” Deena Katz, Dancing’s Senior Talent Producer tells PEOPLE. “The women are phenomenal and the men are such great characters.”
“Julianne is the cutest thing you’ll ever meet and she’s one of the toughest teachers,” says Katz. “I keep warning Chuck, ‘you see this loving side, but she is tough.’”
Real-life pro couple Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff, who got engaged last December, will compete against each other with their respective celebrity partners.
Rounding out the celebrity lineup will be the youngest contestant ever on the show, Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson, 17. Also ready to rumba are pop star Belinda Carlisle, actress Denise Richards, former NFL star Lawrence Taylor, rapper Lil’ Kim, Jackass star Steve-O, Apple computer co-founder Steve Wozniak, actors David Alan Grier and Gilles Marini, and Access Hollywood co-host Nancy O’Dell.
An ABC spokesperson says the remaining professional dancer/celebrity pairings will be announced on Thursday, February 12.

Pairing predictions, anyone?
I'm gonna take a stab at guessing on a couple of the pairs
We already know one...
Chuck/Julianne
My guesses at some of the pairs are...
Shawn/Derek
Lil' Kim/Maksim
Denise/Mark
Jewel/Alec
Ty/Karina
Lawrence/Cheryl
Steve-O/Lacey
Nancy/Tony
Belinda/Corky
Gilles/Edyta
David/Kym
There are supposed to be two or three new pro dancers so I don't know who comes back and who doesn't.
TARAsia Fan:
I would think with her gymnastics experience, Shawn Johnson would do well, although I think Nastia Liukin might have made a better choice instead of Shawn.
Steve Wozniak might be one of the first to go.
I can see Jewel staying in for a while. She has a solid fan base.
Nancy O'Dell is an intriguing choice.
Denise Richards is this season's Kim Kardashian. She can easily be out early due to angry female fans.
Steve-O is a wild card. The man has lit his genitals live on national TV and has also stapled them to his leg. He just might do it live in front of Bruno. I think Steve-O is funny, but he's too crazy for this show.
LT is a guy who is probably doing the show to promote his celebrity golf appearances.
Lil Kim may try to stab a fellow opponent on stage. She's also crazy.
The others I have no feel for.
