 :hearts: An interview with Carol:

‘HK’s Carol was ready to go home

“Not only did I miss my family during the last month, but the last several years”
TVGuide.ca: Were you shocked when you were sitting at the table and Chef Ramsay said that you were going home?
Carol Scott: Not at all. I expected to go. I screwed up so badly. I was ready. I fully expected to call my name.

TVG: Really? You thought that twist was going to come?
CS: Deep down inside. I was sitting at the table thinking, “I’m not happy. This isn’t right. They shouldn’t go. It should be me.”

TVG: Gordon said that you’d given up. Was he right?
CS: I did. I had given up. There’s a lot of stuff that they didn’t show. I was missing my kids pretty bad. I’d been gone from home for a month without speaking to my husband or my kids and that was tough. The game got really intense, and that’s what it was. At some point you look around at the other players, and they wanted it more than I did. I accepted it that day. I didn’t want it as bad as they did. That desire to be a celebrity chef with lots of money, and cameras everywhere, and intense pressure…my goals in life changed as a result of being on the show that day when I was prepping for dinner service.

I realized that I wanted to be home with my family.

TVG: Wow, that’s a really gutsy thing to admit.
CS: I feel like I won. I feel like my husband and my children won. I didn’t realize before what I was sacrificing by choosing this career. I was working 80 hours a week at the French restaurant here in town as the executive chef, and I realized that not only did I miss my family during the last month, but the last several years because I worked so much. I have a whole new outlook on life, and it’s wonderful.

TVG: So what the heck happened with those potatoes?
CS: I still don’t know! I came home, and I made them every day for months just to prove to myself that I can do this. I made my family sick of them, I made my neighbours sick of them, and my friends sick of them. [Laughs.]

TVG: Was it really that bad between you and Andrea, or was that just the editing?
CS: It wasn’t. They made it look so much worse than it really was. We spent a lot of time laughing. TV Guide did a photo shoot with us, and in the picture, Andrea and I are toasting, so that should tell you how we really felt about each other. We did bicker because we are very similar, but we got along.

TVG: How do you feel about her calling you dead weight?
CS: I don’t care. I probably would’ve said the same thing.

TVG: It seemed as though the challenge where Chef Ramsay didn’t choose neither Andrea or Ben’s dishes as winners and wanted to taste Danny and Paula’s was contrived. Was it a set-up?
CS: I know what I’m supposed to say…but… yeah, it was.
