Coup d'état was a strategy device used in the gameplay of Big Brother USA. Offered only once, during Big Brother All-Stars, the power would—if used—have overthrown the current Head of Household, allowing the Coup holder to make his own nominees for eviction.

During Week 6, host Julie Chen revealed to the house that they would be playing for a new power. No further details were given, except for the rules of the competition. During the week the HouseGuests would be presented with several cryptic clues which, when put together, would reveal a 'common' Big Brother saying. When someone thought they had the answer, they could go into the Diary Room and submit their one and only guess. The winner would be notified at a later date.

Mike ultimately deciphered the phrase, “You reap what you sow.” Before the next live eviction, he was informed in the Diary Room about his win and what the new power would entail
