Donald Trump rounds up celebrities for new 'Apprentice' season

Early last October, NBC unveiled the 16-member cast of "Celebrity Apprentice" to reporters. Everyone on hand at the locked-down news conference swore to keep the participants' identities a secret until NBC said "go."

With NBC now issuing its cue Thursday to go public, the major media can take pride at having kept the lid on names like country music's Clint Black, TV personality Khloe Kardashian and former "Baywatch" babe Brande Roderick.

Those don't-I-know-him-or-her-from-somewhere? stars will be competing for the title of Celebrity Apprentice when the reality series returns for its eighth season March 1.

Others risking the wrath of Donald Trump in the boardroom will include Olympic figure skating gold medalist Scott Hamilton, singer Brian McKnight, comedian Tom Green and former football great Herschel Walker. Also poker champ Annie Duke, pro golfer Natalie Gulbis, "Deal or No Deal" model Claudia Jordan, singer Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and former "Monster Garage" host Jesse James, a custom bike and car builder.

Oddly, the only notable leaks from an otherwise unified media front occurred on late-night TV, within days of the top-secret briefing.

"Joan and Melissa Rivers! Dennis Rodman! Andrew Dice Clay!" cackled David Letterman of CBS' "Late Show," outing four of the contestants in his monologue before he mused, "And the celebrities are ...?"

Even NBC's own Conan O'Brien spilled a few beans during a "Late Night" monologue. After blurting out a couple of the show's semiboldface players, he cracked, "Apparently the new season of the show is called 'Celebrity Apprentice: 1988.'"

Presiding over the news conference last fall, Trump insisted the cast was bigger, better, hotter than ever.

"There are some major superstars in this group," he declared, without getting specific.

The 16 celebrities will not be vying for a job with Trump, as in past civilian "Apprentice" seasons, but instead will compete in business-oriented tasks around Manhattan to raise money for their favorite charities. (McKnight's chosen charity is Youthville USA, while Watkins will be playing for the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, and Kardashian has chosen the Brent Shapiro Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Awareness.)

Seated at Trump's elbow, the celebs were happy to anticipate the challenges awaiting them as soon as the next day, when they would start taping.

Hamilton acknowledged having watched the prior season and wondering "if I had the skill set to pull it off, because it was pretty confrontational last year. I'm a pretty easygoing, nice person."

Clay, a one-time scandalous standup comic, said he was doing the show because of his two teenage sons.

As he explained, "When they watched the show, they'd go, 'Dad, you would do great on the show,' and I'd look at them, like: 'Really?'"

"I have a competitive nature," said Walker, who won the Heisman Trophy as a junior at the University of Georgia, "but this (show) is really different, where some people are conniving and cheating. I say, I'm gonna stay true to my morals."

Then he grinned disarmingly and drawled, "I tell 'em, I'm just a little country boy from Georgia."

CELEBRITY APPRENTICE CAST REVEALED!

Celebrity Apprentice has finally revealed the cast competing for their favorite charities on the series’ second season, which returns to NBC March 1.

There are 16 new competitors from several celebrity fields, ranging from country crooner Clint Black and former TLC singer Tionne Watkins to outrageous basketball legend Dennis Rodman. Talk about diverse!

Once again men will be competing against women, but this time, the ladies swear they are ready for the challenge.

“On the men’s side, something’s going to be huge – their egos,” chuckles Deal or No Deal model Claudine Johnson. “We’ll pick them off, one ego at a time.”

The gals don’t plan to stoop to dirty antics to rile their male counterparts, like a certain female player (Omarosa!) did last season.

“When I watched the episode where she was being really brutal about Pierce Morgan’s children, that really hurt me,” says professional poker player and mother of four Annie Duke. “There’s a different between speaking your mind and hitting below the belt."

In the end, all the celeb contestants have the same goal: raising money for a charity they truly care about.

“I’m excited to be playing for the Donald G. Skinner cancer foundation. They saved my life a few years ago,” says comedian Tom Green, who suffered from testicular cancer. “They do a lot of research to help people, and I’m going to try to win some money for them.”

THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE

After last year's ratings blockbuster, 'The Celebrity Apprentice' and host Donald Trump are back with a dynamic cast of brilliant Celebrity business minds!

Last season saw Piers Morgan defeat Trace Adkins to become the first Celebrity Apprentice. But the real winners were the 14 charities associated with the entire cast. Millions were raised and Piers Morgan, alone, raised more than $750,000 for his charity, The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

This season 16 new celebrities will be vying for the coveted title, using all their business savvy as they fight for causes close to their hearts.

Once again, it's the men versus the women as all 16 celebrities compete in business-driven tasks around New York City. They will use their fame, their rolodexes and their business acumen to win weekly tasks, while ultimately battling with each other to stay out of the boardroom and avoid hearing those dreaded words, "You're Fired!."

Celebrities will be subjected to long hours, grueling mental challenges, personality clashes, and intense scrutiny -- all without the help of their regular support system of agents, managers, and personal assistants.

Ultimately they will face the judgment of Donald Trump and his advisors in the boardroom, which will include his children (and colleagues), Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. Also appearing in the Boardroom alongside Trump will be his longtime associate and trusted colleague, George Ross.

The Boardroom will feature a "rotating seat," allowing a variety of famous business leaders and industry legends to join Trump in spirited judgment of the tasks. As with last season, winning Celebrity teams will relish the opportunity to watch the losing team squirm in the boardroom from the comfort of their own war rooms.

When all is said and done, 15 celebrities will be famously fired and only one will emerge to become The Celebrity Apprentice!
