"Dancing with Stars" Season 7

A blurb in tv guide:
It's time to shake things up in the ballroom! Tonight, four new dances will be introduced to this competition: the hustle, the salsa, the jitterbug and West Coast swing. Unfortunately for the recently ousted Rocco DiSpirito, the only way he'll get to experience salsa is if he prepares some as an appetizing dip. And based on how well (or poorly) the celebs tackle this evening's new challenging dances, one of them will be following in the chef's footsteps tomorrow night.

BACKSTAGE AT 'DANCING'
LIKE the Wizard of Oz, "Dancing with the Stars" would prefer if you paid no attention to that man behind the curtain.
But - especially on a show where amateurs are pushed to perform like professionals - that's where you'll see all the stress and strain.
We talked to two "Dancing" contenders - former NFL star Warren Sapp and ex-'N Sync singer Lance Bass - about what's goes on back there . . . before the band starts to play.
Some fans have complained that they felt manipulated by the producers in how they handled Misty May-Treanor's ankle injury, not revealing she wouldn't be coming back until the live show several days later. Do you agree?
Lance Bass: TV is entertainment, and the producers are going to produce the crap out of this show. When Misty May got hurt, I'm pretty sure the producers knew she was out for the season, but of course they didn't want to give that away.
They wait until it's live on TV. You really don't want to ruin the moment.
What do the people who run the show tell you the first day?
Warren Sapp: I knew right away they were serious. We had these meetings where they were explaining how things were going to go.
But they were all Brits. I couldn't understand a lot of the stuff they were saying because of their accents.
Did you get to pick your dancing partner?
LB: I don't know how they partner us. We definitely don't get a say-so; they want it to be a surprise the first day.
I think they chose Lacey [Schwimmer] for me because she's the new kid on the show. I think it's more interesting for me to be [partnered] with her.
What did your partner, Kym Johnson, say the first time you rehearsed together?
WS: "Holy smokes! What the hell am I going to do with a 300-pound monster?"
What's a typical performance day like?
WS: We all get there around noon for lunch. You have the girls getting their makeup done, everyone is having conversations, joking and laughing.
Cloris [Leachman] is digging into my food while I tease Cody Linley about wishing I was back in high school. It's crazier than any locker room I've ever been in.
What's the difference between rehearsing with just your partner and then going on live TV?
LB: It's night and day from the rehearsals to the stage. It's a much bigger feel on TV.
It's crazy, the first time you do the dance, you do it with a live band. I'm not used to that, and it kind of throws you. It's also the energy the crowd gives you-to know that 20 million people are watching can really freak you out if you think too much.
I'm so much better on the show than I am in rehearsal. It's weird, I'll do dances some weeks that I never get right all week long. Then I get on live TV, and it will be perfect. Your brain makes you go there.
Are you encouraged to disagree or get angry with the judges?
WS: It's been very humbling for me. I mean, what can I say? These people are professionals. When they offer constructive criticism, I take it and use it. I think they're very fair.
If you don't win, who's the favorite?
LB: I'm a huge fan of reality TV and me and my assistant actually bet on every reality show. And we did that with this show.
Right now I have Brooke [Burke] and Cody as my top two, and my assistant has Warren and Toni Braxton.
So I'm pulling for Brooke and Cody.

Dancing’s Brooke Burke Taken to Hospital
Dancing With the Stars contestant Brooke Burke injured her foot, an ABC spokesperson confirms to PEOPLE.
Burke, who was performing the jitterbug with partner Derek Hough during a camera blocking rehearsal Sunday afternoon, came down hard on her right foot while doing a front flip in the high-energy routine. She immediately applied ice to her foot to reduce swelling.
As a precaution, Burke was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Monday morning for further examination and X-rays. It was determined she has a severe bruise.
“She’s a little sore, but she rehearsed today and she feels ready to dance tonight,” an ABC spokesperson tells PEOPLE.
Burke’s foot injury is the third to occur this season on Dancing. Two weeks ago, Olympic volleyball star Misty May-Treanor ruptured her Achilles tendon and was forced to withdraw from the competition. During the first week of the competition, comedian Jeffrey Ross suffered a corneal abrasion when his partner Edyta Slwinska’s hand grazed his eye.
Eight celebrity dancers remain in the competition, which airs Monday (8 p.m. ET) on ABC.
