May-Treanor finished ‘Dancing,’ Burke says
Competitor tells radio show Olympic gold medalist has torn Achilles tendon

Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor’s “Dancing With the Stars” days are over, according to competitor Brooke Burke, who told a morning radio show that the Olympic gold medalist has a torn Achilles tendon.

Monday morning on 104.3 MY FM’s Valentine in the Morning, Burke confirmed that the beach volleyball star is out of the competition and possibly faces surgery this week.

"Dancing With the Stars" producers have not confirmed Burke's statement. In a statement released on Saturday, show producers told Access Hollywood: “Misty May-Treanor sustained an injury on Friday and received immediate medical attention. Despite previous reports, she did not break her ankle. She is resting comfortably at home. Doctors will reevaluate her condition on Monday and determine the outcome of her participation on the show.”

However, earlier on Saturday, a source close to the show told Access that the volleyball star will require surgery.

May-Treanor’s injury is the third so far this season — booted comedian Jeffrey Ross suffered a scratched cornea during rehearsal and pro Karina Smirnoff twisted her ankle just before the season seven premiere.

Though the competition is just two weeks old, May-Treanor has already stepped out as a “Dancing” star on the rise.

She consistently received 21 points out of 30 for the host of dances she performed with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

And last week, Misty received some of her highest praise from the judges after performing an intense paso doble with Maks.

“Compared to what we [last] saw I want to thank you, because that is the kind of determination we need,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said on Monday’s show, before turning her attention to Maks. “You gave her one of the most ambitious routines in week two, what are you doing?”

The Olympic champ has pulled double duty in recent weeks, competing on the AVP volleyball tour and training for “Dancing.”

Just two weeks ago, she and partner Kerri Walsh won the $1 million AVP Crocs Cup Shootout in Manhattan Beach, following their earlier victory on September 14 at the AVP Crocs Tour in San Francisco.

Here we go again...also from  msnbc.com, Derek blacks out during a nasty fall

Derek Hough blacks out after ‘Dancing’ fall
Brooke Burke writes on blog that paramedics were called to assist partner

Yet another “Dancing With The Stars” injury has occurred on the set of the hit ABC show.

Just days after an injury reportedly bounced Misty May-Treanor to the sidelines of the competition, dancer Derek Hough blacked out after taking a nasty tumble and hitting his head, “Dancing” competitor Brooke Burke wrote on her blog.

“It has been an intense weekend, especially yesterday when Derek and I almost found ourselves out of the competition,” Burke wrote of her partner.

“Saturday, on the CBS stage, we were practicing as usual when Derek accidentally tripped over a box, while walking backwards,” she continued. “As he tried to break his fall, by jumping up, his foot caught a stage light which sent him further into the air. He landed on his back on the wooden dance floor and smashed the back of his head. He was disoriented, blacked out for a few seconds, and was flattened out in pain. He couldn’t move, I sat beside him as he layed (sic) there and we waited for help to arrive.”

Paramedics were called to come check out Hough.

“Our producers called 911 and the paramedics arrived to carefully examine him. He suffered a neck injury last season which had him down for a week, so the reoccurrence was definitely scary. They rushed him off, stretcher and all, in the ambulance for further testing in the ER,” she wrote.

Even as Hough was being taken away, his mind was still on the competition, according to Burke.

“He was talking about today’s rehearsals and assured me that he would be ok to dance. That was the last thing on my mind. I wanted him to be okay,” Burke wrote.

Luckily, Hough received good news at the hospital, according to Burke.

“After a cat scan and many other tests, he received a clean bill of health and we were back at it today as scheduled. With a huge headache, and a little dizziness, the show goes on,” Burke added.
