why would paul hold up a key at the execution ceremony? TO me (and with the sneak preview) whoever goes in the cage has the choice of Exemption, or the money and key to their cabin with warm beds. If anything, paul would be holding up the green exemption card at the execution ceremony.
but then again, i have no idea what the yellow thing in paul's hand would indicate then.

Maybe Paul doesn't take the exemption? Maybe it's a trick and the person who takes the key actually gets the exemption instead? Same kind of thing they did with the journal burning. I can't imagine any of them trusting HIM though to fetch the key, but he's got such a big mouth maybe he talked his way into it.
