http://www.orientalarchitecture.com/hue/imperialcityindex.htm

All this time I have been thinking that the Imperial Palace was ONE place, and the Citadel another.

Instead, The Forbidden Purple City is inside the Imperial Palace which is inside the Citadel.

Here is a Vietnam era military map of the Citadel as well:
http://grunt.space.swri.edu/visit/maps/Hue1.jpg

So if it is all together, WHY did Shirley see Allen Wu at the Imperial Palace?? Even though she saw  no mat there, could this be the Pitstop after all?

In which case we need to look at a much earlier arrival time, which could rule out trains.

Suppose they do Detours somewhere, Roadblock at the Tomb, and then bus back to Hue where they cyclo to the Citadel/Imperial Palace/Purple City for the PITSTOP??

Too bad we didn't have times on the tombs  because I agree now that I read back peach that its odd that Allan and crew were filming with a lot of gear when the teams were so close.

No luck with the yellow building  :'(

last ditch effort , not quite right ..

Alright, clues for next week! (Not to assume all shots are taken in the same country.)

Square characters on no-smoking sign in background (Chinese?)
Left-hand drive (rules out Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan)
"2283 JJ" as a car-plate number (rules out China, Laos)

georgiapeach:
Neobie--any chance of TAIWAN??

Sure it isn't Laos?

Neobie:
OK brief summary of the preview:

Teams driving at night, Geoff looking at a map with green to the north and blue to the south. Looks suspiciously like India to me, but we know we're not there yet. Possibly looking at Southwest China (towards the top of supposed Indian map) then? Teams pass through a tunnel.

Restaurant with "Chinese characters" on a no-smoking sign (too many characters for a simple "No smoking" though). Teams have to eat something nasty.

Niroo (thanks TARAsia fan!) wants to give up, on the side of a road, at night.

Neobie:
On Taiwan,

--- Quote ---Beginning next year, new license plates for cars will have two alphabetic letters and four digits, and scooters plates will have three alphabetic letters and three digits — and neither of them will have any fours.
--- End quote ---
From http://pinyin.info/news/2005/taiwan-to-abandon-use-of-4-on-license-plates/

The dish is served with a nice little Chinese pagoda decoration, and the restaruant walls are lined with Chinese water-paintings. Now Lao license plates have a Lao character in them, and mainland Chinese plates start with the province character. I can vouch that the restaurant is not in Hong Kong. If car plates belong in the same country as the food I would put my money on Taiwan, but if they aren't mainland China remains a big possibility.

Correction: Both Niroo and Kapil want to quit. Car troubles apparently.

Oh, and 2283 JJ is a Nissan, if that helps.
