Speculating here, but Russia isn't exactly known for being safe for wandering tourists at night time. I have looked at a website here listing the direct trains from Moscow to St Petersburg and they are all night trains with a large majority arriving very late in the evening, or early morning (it's a 700km approx 5 hour trip), and so it is quite possible that the night time pic of the soccer celebrations was taken while travelling from the train station when first arriving in St Petersburg.
puddin:
You all can help me look for photos dated May 11th thru the 13th of the All-Russia Exhibition Centre.
I found one that says it was taken on May12th and it rained :hides
georgiapeach:
Oh no! Poor Chateau!
I still like the 13th for some unknown reason...
Wish I could stay and play! :'( :waves:

It should be noted that there was a connecting flight from St. Petersburg to Frankfurt on the morning of May 14. It is LH3221, departing LED at 0615 and arriving FRA 0710 in ample time for the connection there for LH468 to Portland.
St. Petersburg is a pretty neat place to visit. the only previous Amazing Race visit there was in AR5 when the infamous caviar eating contest(2 kg = 4.4 pounds) occurred in a suburb.
I like the idea of St. Petersburg as the penultimate leg, but right now there is not enough evidence to prove it.

I love the Kremlin clock, and the EXIF data trick! (Thanks again Puddin!)
Further down the same album (the one with rain on the "12th"), we see a Kremlin clock at 3.47pm, while the camera clock declares 7.49am. That means the camera clock was last set to EDT or AST, eight hours behind Moscow Summer Time. (Well that's assuming that people set their clocks to the correct date, but it's not that big a stretch...)
Following that train of thought, we can safely declare the rainy shot to be taken at 11.41am, May 13th!
Somehow when you open up the EXIF data for that shot it says 3.43am on the 13th. Hmmph. Go figure.
In other news, there was no overtime for the UEFA Cup finals, so starting at 7.45pm Manchester time, the results would have been declared at 12.35am, 15th May, St Petersburg time. (Add five minutes for injury time that match.) Not that it means anything... blahblah
