The Amazing Race Heads to Israel
CANNES, April 8: Disney-ABC International Television has licensed its Emmy Award-winning format The Amazing Race to Reshet in Israel, for a local version to be produced across Asia later this year.
The new version will see contestants from Israel divided into teams of two people with a variety of relationships to be filmed around the clock in a race to various destinations across Asia. At each destination, the teams will have to compete in a series of challenges—some mental and some physical—and only when the tasks have been completed will they learn their next destination. The teams who are farthest behind will continue to get eliminated as the contest progresses, and the first team to arrive at the final destination wins a large cash prize.
Tom Toumazis, the executive VP and managing director for Disney-ABC International Television for EMEA and Canada, commented: “The format of The Amazing Race has seen great success in the U.S. and Asia—the high-octane excitement and ‘fish out of water’ comedy of the series has held universal appeal for viewers. We are looking forward to seeing an action-packed contest between contestants from Israel, across Asia.”
Amir Maori, Reshet's executive VP of programming, said: “We are very excited to be a part of one of the most successful reality brands in worldwide television and we are looking forward to bringing Israeli audiences the greatest show ever produced in Israel.”

My Spanish skills are ummm, non-existent, :duno: but this looks like an Amazing Race wanna-be...

Maybe someone can translate...
apskip:
I am not fluent in Spanish, but I can tell you the gist of what this is about. "Antena 3 de Television, S.A., ( BMAD: A3TV) is a Spanish television network and media company, present in the television, radio and cinema industries." They have developed a competition to recreate "Around the World in 80 Days" concept of Jules Verne. I interpret that to mean that teams will go around the globe in 80 days. The winning team will receive 200,000 Euros as first place prize. If someone who can translate Spanish can do so, we will know more.
Zack.:
Other tidbits:
- 14 pairs
- traveling through Europe, Asia, Africa and the US
- the teams have to "bet" an item of value to them; if they lose, it gets taken away (I think)
- racing reports will be provided daily
So it's like BB:UK meets TAR, with a dash of FOX-style cruelty if I'm right.

Applications are due on January 31, and the actual race will be later in 2009, apparently just in Latin America. Pretty awesome, personally, because I'm Costa Rican.
