You bet. When you are going from Florence to India, you are going to have one connection at a hub in Europe plus maybe one connection at Mumbai or Delhi if they are not the final destination. Also, a probable nonstop flight of about 4000 miles from the European hub to the Indian hub is involved, so this makes the airport activity absolutely critical.
