I was thinking BF, +/- other Africa, Florence, Dubrovnik, Lithuania, India, ?somewhere, Osaka, Taipei, Girdwood, Finale.

Maybe BF is a TBC and they're still chasing chickens?

May not be an actual TBC, but BF could be one complete leg at the end of which when the meet Phil on the mat he tells them "keep on racing, here is your next clue - proceed to Niamey, Niger. " Same was done when teams met Phil in Red Square in Moscow and they were told this was not the end but continue on to Stuttgart.  This makes Africa into two legs but only one pit stop.

Peach's eloquent research on the rain in Spain(no that was Burkina Faso) has motivated me to take another look at the possibilities for West African cities that AR12 could fly to directly and quickly from Ouagadougou. I developed a list of the major cities nearby:

Cotonhou, Benin
Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Bamako, Mali
Accra, Ghana
Lagos, Nigeria

I then examined the nonstop flight possiblities from OUA on the morning of July 15(since the Burkina Faso pitstop or TBC is going to start late afternoon or evening of July 14). The results were as follows:

COO, ACC, and LOS - none
ABJ - 2J(Air Burkina) 322 0800 0930
BKO 2J 338 1345 1530

We now have to look on the other end for flights out to Europe. Both of these have nonstop late evening flights to CDG as well as very early morning connections through Casablanca:

ABJ CDG AF703 2235 0600 +1 or ABJ CMN AT532 0240 0700  CMN CDG 0755 1200
connecting with AF5038 0720 0915

BKO CDG AF791 2350 0620 +1 or BKO CMN AT522 0325 0700 CMN CDG 0755 1200
connecting with AF5038 0720 0915

All of these could work, depending on when teams get released from the pitstop or equivalent. I doubt that World Race Productions would have teams arriving Bamako early afternoon and then flying out late that evening or at 320am the next morning. To me it would make more sense to use Abidjan if they are going to use this alternative at all. I still like the road route to Niamey, Niger. We'll see.

Thanks apskip for doing all that! Darn rainy season!

It is interesting that all the clothing/camels/etc that we have so far seems to work equally as well in Niger as in Burkina Faso so I think that that remains a possibility--just might need charter flights. But Abidjan is harder to say, so who knows?

Clearly by the title we aren't in Florence so still have to be in Africa somewhere. Some sort of or variation of a TBC. And I do hope BVM had the "2 African countries" right--sometimes it is hard to trust his geography! :rotf:

We need some more info to sort this out--hopefully the previews will help!

Here's some interesting transportation news:

The Dori-Téra road is the only section of the Ouagadougou - Kaya - Dori - Téra - Niamey inter-states highway not yet developed. The African Development Fund (ADF) July 11 approved a grant amounting to US$ 1 million to finance the development study of the road section of an approximate length of 100 km linking the locality of Dori in Burkina Faso to that of Téra in Niger. The border areas between Niger and Burkina Faso however have increased in economic relevance during the last years due to several new discoveries of gold. Industrial gold mining is now to start on the Nigerien side of the border and has already started on the Burkinabe side. More gold bearing zones are expected to be found in the region.

So this means that the current road is in miserable condition. I've been wondering what the tasks in Niger might be. The major economic acitivity in Niger is millet procution. Perhaps one task could be mining. Past Amazing Races have loved to highlight mining tasks.
