Dick is saying how he has connected with Jen and how she told him about her running away when she was 15.  He said that it was not a conversation where she was me me me me.  That it was a real conversation.  He is saying talking to her let him knew she is real.  He is talking about Jen wrestling in High School and the boys did not want her in their team.  And he thinks that she has a thick skin and is tuff because of her life experience.

He is explaining that to Kail that she is not like that and he know nothing about her.  Kail says that he probably would by the end if the summer that she does not open up fast to people.
