Blast from the Past! Previous Season Timeline Questions....
Slowhatch:
About the statue: still haven't found a sculptor name or title yet. Jelmoli is Zurich's oldest department store. See the photo here (also note the shadow of a traffic light). For a map, go here, enter "Siedengasse 1" for an address and Zurich or CH-8001 for a postcode (sorry, no screencaps where I'm at) and zoom in. My guess is that the statue is at the south end of the shopping center, near the intersection with Bahnhofstrasse.
Chateau d If:
Great news Strat:
Flow & Zach got screwed in Leg 7.
Here is what happened.
This shot was taken between 8:52 and 9:03 am (assumes August 27th, 2002).
The sun was exactly perpendicular to the red-roofed structure. Makes it easy to get the time.
The first clue was at the nearby farm that Slowhatch found.
Let's say they got there, found it and left at 9:10 am.
They had to drive about 71 miles on German highways from Fussen to the ferry in Friedrichshafen.
That would take about an hour. :snicker:
According to Peach's ferry schedule there is a last-ferrry-of-the-day at 10:41 pm.
They could have made that ferry had they started the leg at 9:02 pm.
But we were told they started at 10:02 pm (Phil does not say the "12 hours later" line either). (:;)

Chateau d If:
This shot of the arrival of the Twins at the pit stop was taken between 11:33 and 11:51 am (assumes August 27, 2002).
The orange line marks where there is a shadow line on a curved wall.
That line is just a few degrees shy of the 45 deg roof cut.
What this means is that the Sun has moved about 42 degrees since the shot of Flo & Zach's arrival when it was perpendicular to the building.
Since we have the Twins starting the next leg at 12:44 am it looks like all teams were given at 13 hour pit stop.
And Flo & Zach got screwed out of another Easy Share Camera. :rotf:

Damn but he is good!
Another nice job! :yess:
That must have been deliberate to keep some teams from getting too far ahead...
More please strategery! :)
Did we get everything you needed??
strategery:
Great stuff everybody. I wish I could provide screen caps to help, georgiapeach, but I don't have the capability. Sorry I'm not as high tech as you all -- but feel free to post any images contained in my links for easier reference.
First of all, great pics serendipity. I also think your assessment of the timing is correct. As far as I can tell from the train schedules, the racers probably arrived in Grindelwald at about 4:00, and they checked in at the mat at about 5:00. The Roadblock couldn't have taken that long so a good chunk of that time was simply the walk, which looks like it could be a mile uphill. To help with the mapping, do you recall if Chalet Arnkia was near the Hotel Alpenblick that's shown below? Does that look like the right distance from / relation to the train station?
And more awesome work, Chateau. It's truly amazing what you an do with a couple of screen caps. I do have to quibble with your theory about Flo/Zach, however. They were shown getting to the ferry terminal at 12:50am, nearly 3 hours after they left Fussen. And Google Maps is telling me it's a drive of 1:45 if you make no mistakes. So I don't think F/Z got screwed. I don't have a good explanation for the 13-hour pit stop, however.
I'm also going to have to disagree with you about the date they reached Fussen. Weather Underground tells me it was raining in Innsbruck at 8:00 am on 8/27/02 (link), which is when the teams were doing the bobsled detour. On the 26th, however, it's partly cloudy -- which fits better. Also, the closest town on WU that I could find to Fussen is Kempten, which is just a bit north. And it shows rain showers starting at 7:30pm (link) -- so that actually helps nail down Damon/Andre's arrival time. On the 27th, however, it was raining in Kepmten at the time when Flo/Zach would have to have checked in. Another thing pegging down dates? I was just checking Leg 5 to Fez and noticed a nice full moon at the end of that leg -- which WU confirms was on 8/22. They had one extened pit stop after that (in Marrakech) but I don't think they had two.
As for new stuff, I have to go back a few episodes but how about this: Find the 2nd restaurant in Porto Portugal that was used in the "New School" Detour. I found and address for Chez Lapin (Rua dos Canastreiros, 40-42), and the Majestic Cafe has its own web site. The third one (where Heather/Eve blocked Andre/Damon in) is called Retiro dos Carvalhos -- there's a good shot of the entrance sign and the TARflies season timeline also lists it that way -- but I can't find any info at all. To help a bit, here's a nice map of old Porto.
I also can't resist pointing out one of my favorite finds: The hotel where Michael and Kathy stayed when their car broke down due to DieselGate. It's the Andalusi Park Hotel, which is located just off the highway that you'd take to Algeciras (but is still about a 3-hour drive away). It also seems to be across the highway from a gas station (satellite image) -- and apparently M and K had stopped at the hotel to change money after they got gas, which is why they broke down there rather than on the highway like the other victims. (Yes, I'm still laughing at you, Aaron.)
I will keep trying to post questions on a regular basis. But please consider any of my past timelines fair game for nit-picking here -- don't feel like you have to wait for me to raise an issue. Thanks again!
