EP1 Title: "I Told You Less Martinis And More Cardio."

Slowhatch:
It's hard to tell from the resolution of that photo, but according to the airport site there's a cartel/concession and all airport taxis should have a "cooperativa" emblem on them.

Slowhatch:
If they're not airport cabs, then they're definitely Quito cabs: note the black-on-orange color scheme of the plates. I've googled around for a hilltop restaurant, and the only thing I've found so far that matches the pavement and guardrail is this flickr photo (source) of the Panecillo near the restaurant Peach already mentioned.

georgiapeach:
Thank you Slowhatch! I looked and looked for a parking lot for that restaurant yesterday with no luck. Still not sure it is "rural" enough to match our taxi shot though...And you find the best confirmations! Who knew there were whole sites about license tags? ;D

I still want some more DRAMA! as I posted way back. Sunrise is about 6AM so seems like we would have time for a 3-4 hour task--we need more than one Yanahurca task for sure, IMO. The in  Quito or nearby options (in case we get an early AM task) could maybe include these from way back...I'll repost them in case it rings any bells for anyone. There is also a basilica that can be climbed. Of course, I'm still hoping for the Equator!

Has anyone found parking for the cable car (telerifico)?

In or nearby Quito:
---There is a cable car--(remember the "emergency/exit rapel down from a cable car from a previous season?)
---There is also
Quote

--- Quote ---Bungee jumping.- Is practiced every Sunday morning through Andes Bungee. Tel. 2524796
--- End quote ---
.
--- And there is Paragliding;

Quote

--- Quote ---Where else can you paraglide from a volcanic peak a half-hour from a major metropolitan center? Several paragliding schools can be found within an hour of Quito. You can take a week-long training course, or entrust yourself to an experienced pilot on a tandem flight. Flights last around 10-25 minutes depending on the air currents, take place in the morning for maximum airlift. According to aficionados, trying to imitate a condor feels surprisingly natural - and you certainly won't get any better views.

(Escuela Pichincha de Vuelo Libre.- Address: Carlos Endara Oe3-60 and Amazonas. Tel. 2256592. Complete courses offered)
--- End quote ---
---and there is an active volcano (Guagua Pinchincha) on the outskirts of town with crater walks available

Chateau d If:
I think you got it Slowhatch.  Here is a GE of Pim's Panecillo, the restaurant that Peach found.  If the taxis are parked on the uphill side of the road then the shadows they cast would be consistent.  Also, the horizon seems to match in this tilted view.  I think the lower red arrow in your taxi image points to Mirna's shadow!

This would indicate that a lot of taxis may have been summoned and are waiting at the restaurant.  If this location is correct then the time is about 8ish.

Slowhatch:
So what's the consensus: the racers arrive in Quito, hit hours-of-operation, spend the night at Pim's, get up early the next day and do the "very unpleasant" task BVM mentioned, then get cars and drive to the ranch. Is that about it?
