There are about 18 flights listed for travel from Helsinki to Kiev.  Most leave in the morning and connect through various airports.  Finnair has the only non-stop direct flight between Helsinki and Kiev.

If they leave immediately on the next leg after receiving the "keep on racing" message after rappelling the Olympic Stadium tower, we might assume that they would be going directly to the airport.  From what I have seeen I estimate that the first teams would be completing this task in early afternoon, so the first reasonable flight might be 4:15PM Lufthansa flight getting them to Kiev at 10:40PM.  Or they might make the 6:25PM flight getting them to Kiev at 12:45AM.

If they don't make these flights, it would be bed down at the airport for one of the morning flights which also would mean that all five teams probably would end up on the same flight and arrive in Kiev at the same time.  Probably around noon or early afternoon.

puddin--way back at the start of the episode 9 thread (in a crazy burst of newbie enthusiasm!) I did some airport work...I'll re-summarize here:

Basically, according to Lonely Planet ,  you have three choices for airports to fly into: Kiev metro (5 miles outside the city, Kiev Borispol (25 miles from the city), or interestingly, Odessa, which is only 7 miles from Kiev.

Checking both Amadeus and Airwise for Saturdays and June 17th--the first flights of the day seem to boil down to a couple of options:

1)--Kiev-Borispol: Dep 9:25 via Warsaw, Arr 1:35 (they show this flight leaving from the metro and borispol airports with the same flight # so could be "taxis to the wrong airport time"!

2)--Kiev-Odessa: Dep 8:25 via Vienna, Arr 2:00 (while this is a later arrival time, you are 18 miles closer to Kiev! Never mind the Odessa stuff--it is a LONG way away!

A couple of things though--do all of those flights go on a Sat.? I seemed to find limited flights on the weekends...

And I think they're actually doing the rapelling about 10-10:30 PM so probably are stuck with the AM flights..

Thanks guys & gals. Chateau's time estimate put Tyler & James at the towers between 8:30pm ( clock on the wall ) to 8:33pm. ( june 16th )

If the front pack will go directly to the airport, whatever it is, will take the 1st fligh at 9:45 am
because I think Helsinki-Vantaa s NOT that far from Olympic Stadium.   :tup:
