Racing Report Leg #8

Team left the Pit Stop the Chateau Bel Ombre in the following Order:
1.  Dustin & Kandice  3:00 am
2.  Tyler & James  3:05 am
3.  Rob & Kimberly  3:09 am
4.  Erwin & Godwin  4:04 am
5.  Lyn & Karlyn  4:05 am
6.  David & Mary  4:09 am -They are marked for elimination.  If they don’t arrive first they will suffer a 30 minute penalty before being able to check in.

Team must fly to 700 miles to Antananarivo, Madagascar.  Where they must locate the “Black Angel” which has recently been painted white.

Teams are given $10.00 for this leg of the race.

Teams take the marked cars from the last leg and travel to the airport.  Dustin and Kandice decide to take a different car, their damaged vehicle ends up being driven by Erwin & Godwin (for the longest time I thought it was Lyn & Karlyn but they take a white or silver car).

Tyler & James wait for Rob & kimberly who they have loosely aligned with earlier in the season.  And travel to the airport together.

The six pack all wait on each other and depart together.  Karlyn gets Lyn to split off from the pack.

Teams arrive at the airport in Mauritius in the following order:
1.  Dustin & Kandice
2.  Rob & Kimberly
3.  Tyler & James
4.  Erwin & Godwin
5.  David & Mary
6.  Lyn & Karlyn

All teams fly together on Air Mauritius at 11:00 am.

Teams get to the cabs in the following order:
1.  David & Mary
2.  Lyn & Karlyn
3.  Erwin & Godwin
4.  Dustin & Kandice
5.  Tyler & James
6.  Rob & Kimberly

All three of the cabs driving the six pack pass by the “Black Angel”

Teams get to the “Black Angel” in the following order:
1.  Tyler & James
2.  Rob & Kimberly
3.  Dustin & Kandice
4.  David & Mary
5.  Lyn & Karlyn
6.  Erwin & Godwin

Teams encounter the Intersection.  It requires teams to pair up and complete a portion of the leg as one full team.  If another team isn’t here you must wait until they arrive.

Tyler & James and Rob & Kimberly quickly decided to partner up.

There is also a Fast Forward, the last of the race.

Teams must travel 2 and a half miles to the Analakely market and find stall #11.  Where they must each eat a serving of Cow Lips.  Teams will not complete the Fast Forward until each member has ate one serving.

Tyler, James, Rob & Kimberly take their team to perform the Fast Forward.

David & Mary and Lyn & partner up.

Leaving Erwin & Godwin to be Dustin & Kandice partners.

Detour -  Long Sleep or Short Letter

On Long Sleep teams must take a van 2.2 miles to a market get 8 foam mattresses put covers over them and deliver them on foot i mile to the provided address to receive their next clue.

In Short Letter teams must take a van 3 and a half miles and use local techniques to make and decorate 28 sheets of Paper.  A local judge will give them their clue when complete.

The two merged teams both choose Long Sleep-Though Mary pushes her team to take the Fast Forward.

Normally one can only use the Fast Forward once, but according to interviews since this was a completely new team Mary, and David with Lyn and Karlyn could have pursued the Fast Forward without breaking any rules.

Teams Arrive at  the Detour in the Following Order:
1.  Dustin, Kandice, Erwin & Godwin
2.  Lyn, Karlyn, David & Mary

Teams finish covering the mattresses in the following order:
1.  Dustin, Kandice, Erwin & Godwin
2.  Lyn, Karlyn, David & Mary

Erwin & Godwin suggest Dustin and Kandice use their looks to get a local guide.  Which avoids  Dustin and Kandice (though they have done it in many legs.

Lyn, Karlyn, David & Mary use their fanny packs to bind all 8 foam mattresses so that can take them together, while the other group works in a group of two carrying 4 a piece.

That four a piece appears to be the most easy in moving in an out of small quarters.

Teams deliver their mattresses in the following Order:
1.  Dustin & Kandice, Erwin & Godwin
2.  Lyn, Karlyn, David & Mary

After delivering the mattresses the teams split up to their normal team.

They then must travel 4 miles to Tohotohobato Ambondrona Analakely and find the route.

Teams find cabs in the following Order:
1.  Dustin & Kandice
2.  Erwin & Godwin (cab runs out of gas)
3.  David & Mary
4.  Lyn & Karlyn

At the Fast Forward James finishes his plate.

Rob Finishes his plate.

Teams get to the route marker in the following Order:
1.  Dustin & Kandice
2.  Erwin & Godwin
3.  David & Mary
4.  Lyn & Karlyn

Roadblock - Find Stamps

The team must find four venders that have one of the four stamps matching in their Roadblock.  The venders are scattered among dozens of venders separating the upper and lower districts.  There partner will wait for them at the Pit Stop.

Teams complete the roadblock in the following order:
1.  Dustin* & Kandice   (Dustin  /  Kandice) -cab runs out of gas.
2.  Erwin & Godwin * (Erwin  /  Godwin) - cab runs out of gas
3.  David & Mary * (David  / Mary
4.  Lyn & Karlyn  (Lyn  /  Karlyn)  - cab runs out of gas.

Tyler finishes his plate
Kimberly Finishes her plate.

After finishing the Fast Forward the team separates into two teams.  And head to the Pit Stop.

Fast Forward teams get Cabs in the Following Order:
1.   Rob & Kimberly (cab gets lost)
2.  Tyler & James

The Team member will travel 2 and a half miles to the Cathedral Andohalo where they will meet their teammate and check in at the Pit Stop.

Teams arrive in the following Order:
1.  Dustin & Kandice  2:56 pm a win a trip to Hawaii
2.  Tyler & James  3:08 pm
3.  Rob & Kimberly  3:14 pm
4.  Erwin & Godwin  3:24 pm
5.  Lyn & Karlyn  3:55 pm
6.  David & Mary (after being assessed a 30 minute penalty they actually arrived 5th)  They are eliminated.

Team Reports.

Dustin & Kandice ran a remarkable strong leg with only minor errors.  Not asking about the line pf passangers waiting to board, even though they did try to figure out how to get to Madagascar faster.  Not taking time to get money, made it take longer with their cab before getting tot he intersection.  Though it is unlikely that the close teams of Tyler & James and Rob & Kimberly would have switched and partnered up to them.  It was also rather smart to switch cars, though it does have the side effect of reinforcing your being a team that is not trustworthy.

The only other mistake this team made was letting their guide get away from them.

Tyler & James ran a near flawless leg with only one small error.  When going to the airport James picks the same route the travelled the day before.  And it is an accurate route.  Unfortunately they travelled considerable around the Island and going in the opposite was y is actually quicker.  So they wouldn't have got lost, but it would have taken more time.  But since they confirmed with Rob & Kim this error was avoided.  James & Tyler were next to last in getting to cabs, due to getting money changed, but within minutes they were the lead team.  James excelled at the Fast Forward (at least I am good at something on this damn race).  And the team made good time getting to the Cathedral.

And while another team did finish before the Fast Forward team, this is the first time a Fast forward where teams started nearly the same time (and didn't waste their lead by taking several hours resting in a hotel, stupid Guido's) actually finished after a team performing the regular tasks.  This was due to having to wait on the slowest eater.  But they certainly shouldn't have expected that.  With 47 Fast Forward used in this manner letting the team get ahead.

Rob & Kimberly also ran a very strong race.  They were the team to point out the others at the airport and that got Tyler to ask the ticket agent about it.  The were last out to the cab, due to getting change, but managed to be 2cd getting to the intersection.  Kimberly was the weakest link on the eating, but I do want to point out how well they managed their temper and how supportive Rob was, this isn't the way aggressive teams normally react at these eating challenges.  Only a lost cab prevented them from possible placing higher.

Erwin & Godwin, again chained themselves to the backpack.  And while they were first out of the airport they lost that lead, when even when they assumed they were lost they keep following their pack.  This put them last at the intersection, but luckily due to how the other teams feel about Dustin and Kandice, they got them as partners.  Which between these two teams being the stronger of that group.  It pushed them through the detour quickly.  While the girls were faster getting cabs and they then suffered from running out of gas and having the cab pushed to a station they had trouble locating the route marker.    Godwin's cab ran out of gas one more time getting to the Pit Stop.  But this week due to being forced away from the pack they managed to get over a half hour lead on them.

Lyn & Karlyn  Ran a poor leg, they made the same cab following error as Erwin & Godwin, they let their personal dislike of the  BQ's force them to merge with David and Mary the other weak team.  While it was inventive to use fanny packs to hold all the mattresses together it actually made this tasks harder moving in an out of close quarters.  They also used a local guide who got them lost forcing them to backtrack.  Lyn lucked out on the roadblock and received some help fromMary letting her finish a little faster.  Her cab also ran out of gas.  They were the last team to  arrive (abetween 5-10 minutes) behind David & Mary but due to their 30 minute penalty they were able to check in as the 5th team.

David & Mary, with being marked for elimination, they absolutely should have tried to partner up with Dustin & Kandice.  Instead they were partners with the other slow team.  And they made the same mistakes performing the detour.  In fact Mary seemed more into the kids then eh task.  She also gave help to Lyn even knowing she was in great danger of not finishing at least 30 minutes before another team.  A poor showing.

Teams with multiple first place leg wins.

In order of most to fewest.

Now unlike when I record teh racers average leg placement I will keep teh official number as the main one.  Teams with wins in teh first part of a multiple leg will get a note added to their record.

Teams with the same number of wins (which we will see a lot of, are listed in season order (s1 first to S10, last), teams tied in the same season will be ranked with normal wins plus wins from unoffical 1st section double legs, then with normal first place wins, wins plus fast forward wins 3cd.

1.  Colin & Christie (5), 6 wins one of them with a Fast Forward.
2.  Eric & Jeremy (9), 5 wins one with a Fast Forward (+ 1 for both sections of a double leg)
3.  Rob & Brennan (1), 5 wins one with a Fast Forward

Well With the first half of hte double leg almost accounted for (placements of team in 3-5 are still open) I can give a range for each team of possible the best to worst they could do if they manage to make the final 3.

Tyler & James:  If they make the final three (and counting DBL legs as 2 seperate legs) have a range of 2.23 - 3.08.

Dustin & Kandice:  If they make the final three have a range of 2.46 - 3.23

Rob & Kimberly:  If they make the final three have a range of 2.62 - 3.46

Erwin & Godwin:  If they make the final three have a range of 3.31 - 4.23

Lyn & Karlyn:  If they make the final three have a range of 4.31 - 5.23

If Lyn & Karlyn need to average 2cd or better for every leg or they will offically have the worst record of every single team who has made it to the Final Three.
