"Who Wants To Be A Superhero".
« on: July 27, 2006, 03:27:52 PM »
From Realityblurred.com

There are so many American Idol clone competition talent shows on the air now that I’ve stopped caring. But I’m ready to make room in my life for SciFi’s new competition talent show, which debuts tonight at 9 p.m. ET.

Screw people with narrow talents or people who think the can dance: Who Wants to be a Superhero? has superheros. It may not have a creative name, but it does feature Stan Lee as a judge. Did I mention it features superheros?

These aren’t existing superheros, like Toby Maguire versus Christian Bale. Instead, as SciFi explains, the six-episode series “will challenge a lucky few to create their very own superhero and reward the winner with the best reality competition prize yet: immortality!”

A total of 11 contestants have been selected to compete; they include Cell Phone Girl, Fat Momma, Iron Enforcer, and Monkey Woman. The finalists will “live as their brainchild heroes 24/7, all under Stan Lee’s watchful eye” and “be challenged with competitions designed to test their true natures.”

Because sometimes the way to feel good about yourself is by making someone else feel bad. I am tired of making others feel good about themselves.

After you mentioned it to me the other day, I set it up to record.  I watched it and just cracked up.  I gotta watch the rest.  It's just too funny.  Now is the 3rd the second episode or is there a different date to catch up on?

They have the Pilot episode for Free on iTunes.  But it might be only for tonight because tomorrow they update with new stuff on iTunes, so get it now while its free.  I'm going to check it out just because the first episode is free.

Jeffrey, after you told me about this, I just had to watch it.  My hubby and I were cracking up, especially during the challenge and the superhero in red.  What is his superhero name?  Hey....is that Cole?? :lol3: :lol3: :lol3:

This is a show I'm gonna have to watch.

I think he is Major Victory? No, Cole would be Levity, the first one eliminated. LOL

RJ, thanks for the support on the show last night. I wish I was able to make the live show. For once something I could have help with. I listened to the podcast this morning and every time Rob was saying he thought the show was on Tuesday I was yelling, "No Thursday night! No Thursday!" LOL

I love this show!  Hilarious.  Definitely worth watching all season.

Anyone else rooting for Fat Momma or Cell-Phone Girl?  I don't think they have any real powers that are cool, it's just that I think they'd make a funny movie on the Sci-Fi Channel.

What exactly is her power?  Can she call people without her call getting dropped?  Because if so, then she's got Cingular and I doubt she's the only one with Cingular.

Cell Phone Girl can teleport from one active cell phone to another; eyes can take digital photos; download any information available on a computer (i.e., learn Japanese on the fly); use cell-phone waves to move physical objects; fires beams from her cell phone.

All the heroes have powers, background stories and other info found on www.scifi.com

I saw the most recent episode of the show. (Or as much of it as I could get in, ie--the last half of the challenge and the new costumes.) I loved Stan's twist at the end. With the previews, I think I'll have to tune into the show again this week.
I thought that when we fought, I was to blame
Now I know you play a different game
I've seen you dance with danger; still wanting more
Add another number to the score

I agree.  I love the ending.  It makes me want to see the show more and more!  I'll definitely tune in for the rest of the series and watch the movie.  I'm not a comic book geek, but this show rocks!!!

It's seems most of the show is scripted, but I think all the challenges are real. I love that, it's kind of a combo of a reality show and a TV show. I can not believe Monkey Girl, I was apploading her tenacity for enduring those dogs for that long. Cell Phone Girl on the other hand needed to go. What a wimp!

I thought the big dude who will be the villain was the wimpiest.  Only inches from the door and he calls "Uncle".  Could not believe it!   :groan:

I agree on Monkey Girl (or is it Woman?).  I give her major kudos!  And Major Victory made me laugh when he asked about his hair afterwards and they did a sparkle on his teeth :lol3:

At the end, it did seem very scripted because I didn't see anyone else lugging a suitcase after they were eliminated.  And the TV turning on was a dead give away.  Still, I love this show.  And to be correct, it is Monkey Woman (not girl).

About Monkey Girl/Woman I'm so use to reading Legion of Super Heroes where eveyrone is a 'girl' or 'goy'. LOL
When he came out of the van at the end with a mask I was hoping he would continue through the series taunting them behind the mask. None of them knowing who was attacking them. But as the preview went on, it looks like they will know it's him. Bummer, still a funny show!

I know, I think it would be better if they didn't know it was him (what is his name?).  But like you said, it can be funny still.  I look forward to seeing it. ;D

I wonder what Stan Lee was trying to set up with Tyveculous costume? He obviously set up the Iron Enforcer by saying, "I'm not sure it's quite right." He also told Tyveculous I'm not sure about it, what do you think?" I wonder if he was trying to set up Tyveculous as the villian also?

I think that chicken hair-piece was horrible.  I don't know why Stan chose it for Tyvelculous.  And they changed The Iron Enforcer's name to The Dark Enforcer!  Very un-original, and why didn't they save his machine gun?  I wonder what TDE's power will be.

And I don't see Tyv. as a villian.  Especially if he had the chicken hair lol.
