How to take a screen capture
« on: June 13, 2006, 06:37:35 PM »
First off you will need a screen capture program such as
Gadwin ( free)
Snagit ( I think its 40.00$ per year BUT there is a free trial for 30 days )

( any questions ? feel free to ask ! )

Also you can attach pictures using the Additional Options... link below
once you've saved your screen capture to your picture files , simply hit the link below , browse , open and thats it !!
You can post up to 5 attachments per post ........OR
You can host your pictures
Some free hosting sites ~
ImageShack
Photobucket
.com/][banned image hosting site].com

Now your realoneplayer will also have to be adjusted ! of course by the time you get the feeds you will have to update to the latest realoneplayer , gold I think?
Anyway what your going to want to do is
open realoneplayer
tools
preferences
hardware
where you see Video Capability Card your going to want to slide that too Most Relaible ! if you don't you'll get black pictures .

thats all I could thinlk of right now ...any one that has some tips to add or other free sites for capturing screencaps please don't hesitate :)

More on how to use snagit

First your going to want to create a profile with the wizard

Image capture
next
input ( I use fixed region )
next
file ( your going to want to drop that down and select Gif )
now you have a few options to the right ,I use FIXED file name , just delete the SNAGIT and type in whatever you want , I use pudd
apply
ok
next
if you want you could click the preview window , it shows you the picture before you save it , I prefer not to click the preview button or any of the options here
next
you could skip this part too
next
you'll see another drop down menu here , I choose printscreen
finish
( questions ? I'll try to help ! )
Save new profile as
next

Download the VLC Media Player. It has a snapshot feature as a right-click option. Choose the video you want to play, and voila!

Actually, I think I may be more interested in snagit now. While watching the BBUK I've found I like to include short videos of things going on and a short video would be neat to learn how to do if I can't find one on youtube.com

With YouTube, it's easier! Just use Ctrl-Alt-Print Screen, and the image of the window you are currently viewing can be copied. Use paint to edit the image to only show the vidcap, and voila. This might also work with Windows Media Player, but not with RealPlayer.

wow i use a totally different method. I have this thing called ScreenPrint32. its free, just google the name if your interested.
Anyway with screenprint32, i just press alt+prtscn, it saves the active window automatically (it requires a little configuring, but its easy)
then i just post it directly here using the attach option.
i guess maybe its a little clunky, but i know it so it works for me....lol

should i be using some sort of image hosting tho? I never did that before, does it matter or make a difference?

Hi Everyone!!
Puddin asked me to post the method I use to screen cap. Apparently it's a little different from what most are doing.
This method is super easy, and the software is free -- i highly recommend it.

Basically Here's The Deal:
1. You need to download Screen Print 32. it can be found at http://www.provtech.co.uk/download/default.asp It is free for personal use. I was recommended to download it by my dad, who has me using it for something else, i don't know much about the company to be honest, but I've had the program almost a year and have not had one problem in terms of compatibility (it has no spyware, adware or malware)

2. Once you download and install it it needs to be configured. All you need to do is open the program, you will see 5 tabs at the top.

3. On the "General" tab check "Capture Active Window", also pick the capture key (I use Prt-Scr, but there are several options) under miscellaneous "Share User Settings", "Load at Startup", and "Show in SysTray" should also be checked.

4. Under the "Print Options" tab remove the check from "Enable Printing" (Or it will print everytime)

5. Under the "save Options" tab check the box that says "Save Captured Area To Disk", under filename I have selected "SP32-[counter] (it numbers each cap satrting at 1, makes it easy for me to keep track of) but there are several naming options, whichever you prefer can be picked. Under "File Format" I have chosen JPG, but again you can pick whatever is best for you. Then with the "Folder" box select "browse" and choose where you want to save the caps. I use my desktop, to save and then move the caps to another foler after I posted them. That makes it easy for me. Below this there is a button to reset the counter, I just leave mine alone so it keeps the counting correct.

6. Press "OK" at the bottom of the page and your ready to cap!!

So to work it: (this is using it the way I have configured it, if you used different settings, your process may differ)
I open the real payer and watch then when Im ready to take a cap, I click on the real player to make sure its my active window, and press the prt-scrn button, it saves the cap to my desktop. Then I just log in here at RFF and post my cap using the "Additional Options"  and "Attach" methods.
That's it!!! So easy and fast!!!
If you really want to be really professional.... once you saved the cap, before you post it you can open it in photoshop, or your preferred photo program and crop out the real player skin. I just post it with the skin to get the caps up fast. It's totally up to you.

Hope this will help someone! Please PM me if you need any help with this or you find my instructions confusing!!
Have Fun!!!
