I thought TAR:Asia was only going to Asian countries? Would NZ qualify?

Those mileage estimates vary quite a bit from the start of the season to the end -- last year, CBS gave numbers ranging from 50,000 to 70,000 miles in press releases before settling on 59,000 at the end.

I don't recall reading that, can you supply your info source on the route.  I did read that the racers would be selected from "Asian" countries (excluding Japan, Australia, NZ, and Middle East).

If they do go to New Zealand here is how it could fit.

It's a little tight don't you think?

Wow lots of hard work you guys & gals
TV guide article :
After stopping in Beijing , its on to Mongolia and North Vietnam

(just as I know Puddin is sure Paris is not a decoy), do you mind elaborating on what you know?

:luvu:
I can't say .

lets see if we can put this one to rest .. a tourist or crew pick up a discarded yellow clue envelope ?
The only male female team this matches is Lauren & Duke ( red back packs ) and Duke's hair and face don't match up .

The pony tail of the girl is to short to be any of the girls in the competition. Not to mention the guy just don't resemble anyone. I would say they are a decoy or someone from the prodution.

They can't be decoys they match no team so probably the latter .

Ai-yi-yi. You secretive bunch. You guys give me a headache.

My stand is that they mixed in decoys (people pretending to be racers but have nothing to do with the race, not just eliminated racers) with the real teams at the Eiffel Tower.

Here is the quote and the source:

I'm with Kogs -- I'm confident TAR is back in NZ this year -- looking at our last itinerary on p. 1 on this thread, I don't see why it would be tight for them to get there.

ETA: this page of the thread has the most NZ info:

The crest is not in Chinese! If it is it's a REALLY long name... Me thinks it's in Hanoi (just been there last year), probably some Ministry of Agriculture or something. (It looks like stalks of wheat/rice/barley to me.) Hopping off for a search now...

ETA: Oops! The Ministries of Agriculture for the three suspected countries...

Sorry for the post frenzy all of a sudden -- do you think the new twist is that both team members have to perform the roadblocks? This would explain why Dustin & Kandice are BOTH performing the one in the pic earlier and/or why both team members are climbing the wall... just a thought.
or they are just asking for directions ? post all you want mwooden ! I do ! LOL

Dustin (l.) and Kandice in a 'roadblock challenge' in Vietnam in 'The Amazing Race.

'Race' stays right on pace

10th edition kicks off Sun.

THE AMAZING RACE. Sunday, 8:30 p.m. CBS
As "The Amazing Race" plunges into the most competitive night on prime-time television, it has this on its side: It has kept its edge where other, trendier shows - including some seen on Sundays - have softened.

This weekend's 90-minute kickoff of the new season keeps the show's agreeably fast pace and, more important, has assembled another lively cast.

If you don't want to root for a pair of cheerleaders, the male models, the gay couple or two inner-city single moms, you can root for the team of robed and bearded Muslims from Cleveland or Sarah Reinertsen, who has a metal leg.

Watching Reinertsen battle to climb her way up the Great Wall of China, a task that requires balance much more easily achieved with two regular legs, is one of those rare moments on "reality" shows that transcends its setup.

It makes the viewer want to stop and watch - not just because there's an image on a screen, but because you sense there's a lot more going on there than a TV moment.

This race, the 10th in the series, brings a dozen teams to Seattle, where they're sent to Beijing on the first leg of a trip around the world.

The first team to get back, as usual, will win a million bucks.

As in the past, this race starts with camaraderie and hail-fellow-well-met competition.

Naturally, the producers and much of the audience expect and hope things will take an adversarial turn.

But meanwhile, many of the dramas are charmingly small, like blissful couples turning snippy when they can't agree on whether to get off the interstate and try to find an alternative route to the airport.

Because part of the competition involves physical challenges, like climbing up the wall, viewers will quickly figure that contestants who are younger and in better shape, like male models Tyler Denk and James Branaman, may have an advantage over, say, 52-year-old Duke Marcoccio or other entrants who look to be in less than Parris Island fighting shape.

But winning the race also requires luck, timing and even small bursts of thinking, among other built-in equalizers.

Marcoccio, for instance, doesn't flinch when one of the challenges in Beijing is to eat a plate of fish eyes.

That sort of yuck moment is mandatory in the "reality TV" biz. Still, the new "Amazing Race" rises above other shows in its sometimes dubious genre because its most interesting moments are the small human ones, not the ones manufactured for TV.

That's a modest distinction, but a valuable one, and it should enable the new "Amazing Race" crew to keep up with the rest of the Sunday night field.

So the speculation about the title can be reopened -- the eating task has nothing to do with ducks.

Their irregular hole spacings suggest vegetable matter to me.  The device in the background suggests a "hand press" of some kind.  Think maybe they have to squeeze the "things" to extract juice, or something.  Maybe Neobie can enlighten us on Asian food.

The only thing that I can think of that's a vegetable, this thick and has so many holes is the banana stalk...

From Britannica: "There are many plantations of banana and other fruit trees, coconut, and sugarcane, most of them found in the Mekong River delta and the southern terrace regions." Hanoi's nowhere near the southern tropics though...

From Fruits of Vietnam: "It is the most important traditional fruit of Vietnam, both in terms of historical and economic significance. Commercial annual production in Vietnam is over one million tons, not including home gardens, which almost always grow bananas for personal and local use."

But would you need that much... mud? Buffalo dung?

Geez, didn't you learn from Survivor that not all Asians are the same? :umn:
