??? Still waiting on the westside. I saw the caps of the war memorial (thanks Puddin); was woodside on the show also? Anyway, credit where credit is due: did anybody see the spoiler (Avis lady) at the Perth airport?

Here's the ticket for the flight to Perth. It's a little fuzzy, but you can make out the flights (Emirates Air 865-420 combo, connecting through Dubai and arriving at Perth 5:25 p.m.) and the date--22 Nov.

Just reviewed the tape of MoJo leaving Perth Airport, and the clock on the wall by the Avis counter near the cabs said 6:20, as best as I can see.  That means either the flight was delayed or it took about an hour to clear customs/immigration.  No wonder they missed the last ferry to Rottnest.

Also, I thought the taxi driver said it was one and a half hours to get to Fremantle Harbour from the war memorial.  Damn, traffic is a nightmare during rush hour in Perth.

How about the curve ball the producers sent us with a 24 hr pit stop?  Has TAR ever had a pit stop that was not 12 or 36 hr?

There were a few (like the first one in TAR8 and the second Botswana leg in TAR7) that were timed to allow teams to depart in daylight hours. Not sure about the reason for this though. To make them get stuck with the king?

How do you know how long a pit-stop is? And for you detectives out there, is there any way to determine how late a person arrives at the mat?
I wish that during check-in TAR would show what time they arrive.

That was a strange timing -- maybe they wanted to do 36 but it wouldn't have worked out with flights? Not a ton of planes from Muscat to Perth...

Looks like we were right on with the dates of filming at this point -- leaving Oman on 11/22. From here on out, I am pretty confident of our dates... also, as to someone's earlier post, I think the Woodside building thing was just an onlooker who happened to see them run past the building, not the site for a task.

EPISODE 9 – 4/26/06
START: Oman (November 22, 2005)
FINISH: Perth/Rottnest, Australia (November 24, 2005)
Sighting in Perth/Rottnest ON these dates at Woodside building, Fremantle prison, lunch stop
NEL? 5 teams remaining

EPISODE 10 – 5/3/06
START: Perth/Rottnest, Australia (November 25, 2005)
FINISH: Darwin, Australia (November 26, 2005)
Crocodylus Park
4 teams remaining

EPISODE 11 – 5/10/06
START: Darwin, Australia (November 27, 2005)
FINISH: Lopburi Thailand (via Adelaide, Australia and/or Bangkok) (November 28, 2005)
Dates locked in because of monkey festival dates in Lopburi
Couple spotted in Adelaide trying to get to Bangkok
NEL? 3 teams remaining

EPISODE 12 (HOUR 1) – 5/17/06
START: Lopburi, Thailand (November 29, 2005)
FINISH: Tokyo, Japan (November 30, 2005)
Shots of shopping district, Mt. Fuji
NEL? 3 teams remaining or maybe no pit stop in the middle

EPISODE 12 (HOUR 2) – 5/17/06
START: Tokyo, Japan (December 1, 2005)
FINISH: Denver, Colorado via Anchorage, Alaska (December 3, 2005)
K2 flying service, sighting in Alaska airport

When Fran and Barry arrived at the mat in Oman, it was still light outside.  Team 2 arrived in dwindling light.

charlierose,

I agree that it was lacking something.  But, a lackluster TAR episode beats most other shows.

That 24-hour rest stop had us fooled.  First time for that in the past it was either 12 or 36 hours.  So the late start times (5:35PM) accounts for the missing hours in Oman.

Teams arrived at Perth Airport at 5:20 so they had about an hour taken to get through customs and immigaration (something that even Phil says they never show since teams standing in lines is boring, boring, boring.  And TPTB seem to hold up all teams until the last team is checked through.  This makes sense since you could just get in the wrong, long line and be delayed way behind the first team.  Taxi then to the Kings Park takes them up to just before 7:00PM and we can see that the light is failing and building lights coming on and by the time the teams get to Fremantle it is dark.  Sunset is at 7:01PM.  No way were they going to get to Rottnest this day since the last Eagle Express leaves Fremantle at 4:00PM except on Fridays when there is a 6:00PM ferry.

Something strange, but TPTB have the power.  When the teams are checking in at the Eagle Express ferry terminal, the schedule sign clearly shows that ferries leave Fremantle at:

7:30
9:30
11:30

And then leave from Rottnest Island at:

8:15
10:30
12:15

But when Eric and Jeremy get on the ferry the title says: 9:15AM (No way could they do the tasks and get on the 8:15AM ferry) and when the other teams boarded the title said 10:00AM.  Oh, the power, the power!!

My estimate of pit arrival times:

The Beach Boys  11:30AM to 12:00Noon

MO/JO               11:30AM to 12:00Noon

The Hippies         12:00N   to 12:30PM

RaYolanda             1:00PM  to 1:30PM

Mwooden, I think Episode 9 ended on the 23rd.  They had tickets dated on the 22nd and were bunched up at the 7:30 am ferry on the 23rd.  The leg ended on that day.

Chateau, I think it broke down like this...

Evening of 11/22: Flight from Oman to Perth (21 hour flight)
Evening of 11/23: Arrival in Perth, stay in hostel overnight
Day of 11/24: Complete tasks & pit stop (finishing between 11AM and 1PM)

That flight's a killer!

The ticket (sale date: 21 November 2005) said that the flight left Muscat at 0045 via Dubai (change plane) and arrive in Perth at 1720 (0+) which means the plane arrived on the same day it left Muscat on November 22.

So arrival in Perth is still on November 22 not November 23.

Teams took the 7:30AM feffy on November 23 and completed the day at the Perth Sailing Cub on and after Noon, November 23.

Aha, got it. So we're a day behind on the dates. Might be one more long pit stop to make up for it?

from an article about Fran & Barry

They received a 12-hour rest period after each leg of the race, and two 36-hour rest periods in the 17 days. The longest race leg lasted 42 hours.
