A 10 hour train ride is another option

  By Train
For train information, contact Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) (PHONE: 848/888088 in Italy, www.trenitalia.it), the Italian State Railways.

There are direct express trains from Milan and Rome to Palermo, Catania, and Siracusa. The Rome-Palermo and Rome-Siracusa trips take at least 10 hours.

Da Vinci was well known for his "mirror writing." I tried flipping the image, but either there's nothing there (nonsense script) or the handwriting is too sloppy to make out.

Getting bored waiting for Wednesday's episode, so just wanted to post the usual GE pictures of the Greece spoilers (as we know them, thanks to Banzai).

Interesting that the Nafplio Harbor and the Corinth Canal are in the Peleponnese, but not too far from Athens.  Nafplio is quite remote.  Hope we spend some time in a big city.  Resolution of GE in Nafplio is useless.

Looking ahead to next week:

The quickest way from Siracusa to Rome is drive to Catania than take one of the early morning Altalia flights.

Schedule of daily flights:

AZ 1734   Lv 6:25AM     AR Rome 7:45AM

AZ1736    Lv 7:10AM     AR Rome 8:30AM

Az1738    Lv 9:00AM      AR Rome 10:20AM

AZ1732    LV 10:55AM   AR Rome 12:15PM

If we can assume that all teams arrive at the pit stop before sunset at 4:50PM, all of the teams will be able to drive to Catania from Siracusa and catch the 6:25AM or 7:10AM flght to Rome.  BUNCH BUNCH BUNCH here we come :jumpy:

TV Guide clues !! TV Guide April 10-16

Eric wasn't puzzled by an earlier Italian challenge , but will he be able to crack a secret code in Rome involving Da Vinci's Vitruvian man ( inset )this week ?

What are the teams doing this week in Rome ?
" It has a tie-in to 'The Da Vinci Code ," explains Race co creator and executive producer Bertram van Munster. " We'll be using the most famous places in Rome." At the Trevi Fountain , the teams will receive part of an image of da Vinci's Virtruvian Man . Then they'll go in search of the second half of the clue ,which will help them crack a secret code.

There are several things missing from the TV Guide drawing:  The square is in a circle whose center is the man's navel. The head is missing. And the second drawing of the man with legs and arms in a different position is missing.  The man's genitals are missing (CBS censorship?) but they are the center of the square. So to find the rest of the Leonardo's (he is never just called "da Vinci") drawing of the Virtruvian Man where do they have to go?  Circle in the Square, but tht is a theatre in New York City! Perhaps somewhere in St. Peter's Square, or the Castel Sant'Angelo, or Castelgandolfo, or Piazza Navona and the Fountain of the Four Rivers (the square represents four sides, seasons, elements, etc.) or the Pantheon one of the most perfect examples of balance and proportion in  architecture which is what the Virtruvian Man is all about.

If this were a re-enactment of the original Olypiad, they all would have to be BUCK NAKID. Where are the Double Dees when we really, really need them?

If this is promo for next week, WHA HAPPEN TO ROME?

Michelle:  But what if I have to get neked?
Lake: Oh, yeah, I'll do it.

What is she really hiding?

Maybe they just do one clue in Rome and get on a plane to Greece? Kinda weird. ???

Did some quick googling, and it appears from first glance that there is a lot more graffiti in Rome than Greece in the subways.  Wild guess that the racers are either running up subway exit stairs, train station, or emerging from a street crossing underground tunnel.  Need to look into this further.

The rainy scenes may be in Rome, as Greece usually has better weather.  Anyone know what the weather was in Rome at the time?   As usual. not a lot to go on.     ;)

What are the racers holding in their hands?  GPS?  Are they looking at the thingy for directions?

Quick thought , what if Eric & Jeremy are doing the Fast Forward and the " Da Vinci Code " is their task ? I don't see them in the video clips ? Just in the taxi !

I guess we'll see in ( can you believe ?) less than 2 HOURS    :woohoo:

Heavy Rains in Athens on November 17th.  Clear before that.

Since they ended the Segesta Leg on November 14th and the Eastern Sicily Leg is one day, that means there was a Pit Stop extension in there.

Or, this leg is a really long one.

With Brotas, Brazil being the last 36 hour pitstop, it's probably time for the next one.
