For some reason I don't remember that.

She was classic - and we probably did get a release from her.  We lucked out after that when we pulled into a parking lot and ran into a young American woman who was driving a group of tourists around.  They got the idea of what we were doing and agreed to delay their trip to lead us to the bird watching.

An interesting behind the scenes aspect to that situation was there was an additional stipulation that the drivers could only follow our direct orders - you weren't allowed to find someone who knew the location and give them the directions in Spanish.  It virtually forced you to find someone you could follow.

:yaya: Hey Wally , first of all I hope you enjoyed your Holiday ..second Question about the yield ..my mind is slipping  :snics:.
Was there a yield available every leg for TAR8 or were there 2 pre-detremined legs that the yield appeared ?

There were only two yields, one at the coffee beans and one at the ski jump.  We weren't told how many yields there would be in total but those were the only two on our race.

Wally, I think it's great that you and your daughters had the opportunity to do the race.  So cool.  I tell my hubby that he and our son should do the race.  My hubby said he would need to get in shape first.  If I could do it physically, I would.  But my two guys would be great to see run :hearts:

If I had to do it over again I would have gotten in a little better shape myself.  The race is a little more physically demanding than it looks, especially when you have to keep up with three fit daughters.  I would encourage everyone to give it a shot - I never thought we'd end up being selected.

Puddin, that's nice of you to say.  People have been very kind to our family and we have just had a great time with the whole experience.

I read all the boards but I would never let anything negative written on them bother me.  I realize that people are just giving opinions based on what they see on television and try to be funny/sarcastic with it.  But the people I have communicated with directly, either in person or on the internet, have been very gracious.  It has made our experience since the race was completed as or more enjoyable than the race itself.

Usually I try to be a wise guy here, but I agree with Puddin; It's way to hard to say anything nasty about you. I'd nominate you for an all-star show also. It would make having an all-star worth while.

The only time you really get to see Phil is immediately after the end of the leg.  There is normally food waiting for you and Phil will hang out as the teams are coming in and have something to eat.  I believe he leaves pretty soon after that as he needs to get ahead of the teams and film his spots at the roadblocks and detours.  Therefore I didn't get to spend a great deal of time with him but he seemed to be a very down to earth person and a nice guy.

Not sure if you know this or not, but how does Phil know when to wait at the pit stop mat? Does the camera crew radio ahead they are coming?

There is always communication from the crew (normally the sound man) and they know when teams are about to arrive.  Occasionally as we were travelling along the crew would ask where we were so they could tell someone they were on the phone with.

Do you keep in touch with your sound/camera crew still?

How much weight did you loose?

The crews rotate so you are with different crews each leg, and I haven't talked to any of them since the race.  I lost about 20 pounds on the race and have since put it all back on plus some.

Probably Ozzie - I could use the Spanish/communicaton skills.  If not him, maybe Konerko - just so I would feel that I can run fast in comparison.
