Was Nick the outcast of the Linz family?

The Linz family from the Amazing Race 8-family edition seemed to be a very close family of young adults who had fun like university kids but also had a very close family bond.   However Nick seemed like he was a bit of the outcast of the family.    Megan and Tommy went to school together in Miami from the family profile, and Alex lived at home to save money so the 3 probably saw each other alot.   Maybe that is why the other 3 seemed to care about each other and Nick seemed to be the unloved one among the 4.   That was my perception as a viewer.   Is that what you thought as well?
