I Saw an Amazing Race Cluebox
« on: February 14, 2006, 10:51:30 PM »
Hey everyone, I know TAR9 has finished filming, etc. and I know that other countries also run the Amazing  Race.  My co-worker and I were walking into town on our lunch hour about two weeks ago and we saw an actual clue box - green box on a stand with the yellow/red flag.   I was quite excited   :jumpy: :jumpy: and was going to lift up the lid to look inside but saw that it had a padlock on it.  It was in front of a catholic church on a busy street.  I was hoping to see a team running towards it but we figure that they had set it up early which is the reason why there was a padlock on it.  We went back the next day at lunchtime and the box was gone.  So now I wished I went up to the cluebox and tried opening it.  I blew my one shot of pretending to be in the amazing race and opening up the clue box.  darn!!! :groan: :groan:

Lmao  I would have camped out like Rob too. With a tent, a camera and maybe even a little fire so I could roast marshmellows. And...I'd also probably throw all my stuff in a backpack and then drive like...10 minutes away, get out of my car and run towards the box like mad, almost like I was on the show..

That would be neat for anyone to find I'm sure. Like everyone else, I would have camped out also. But forget the camera Rob, I would have bought my cam-corder. Or perhaps my micro-recorder. Who knows, perhaps I might have tried to run up for an impromptu interview for the podcast.

Hey guys! I took this picture while I was on vacation in Victoria just recently. This was taken outside between the Underwater Sea Garden and the Royal Wax Museum. I asked the cashier of the sea garden whether it was an Amazing Race marker and she said it wasn't. Claimed it was some corporate race.

Am not completely sure, but the building in the left background may be The Empress Hotel (I think it's the name).  Victoria is beautiful and everyone says when you go, you must go there for High Tea.  We didn't get our reservation in soon enough so had to go somplace else.

Here is a picture of The Empress Hotel from the front:

Another place on Victoria is Buschard Gardens.  Again, VERY beautiful with many types of gardens....rose garden, Italian, Japanese, etc.

If they are going to Victoria, I wonder if they will have to go to one of these places and do something there.  Will be interesting to see.

My bad, I looked back at the list of cities that they will be in and this one isn't there.  That plus puddin saying it was a spoiler from last fall.  DOH :groan:   :umn:

Puddin, you are so good.  I live in Victoria BC (Canada) and that picture you have is the city I live in.  Well I can guarantee there is no corporate challenge going on at this time that I am aware of. We definitely hold a corporate challenge in our city in the summer to early fall (usually sporting events such as rowing, softball, etc.).  When was this picture taken or posted?  My clue box did look like the one in the picture.  As for the picture, the cluebox is sitting on the causeway in our inner harbour--it is the gathering place for all the tourists as we have musicians (some good and some bad), jugglers, artists entertaining all the tourist each and every night.  Our symphony also puts on one free show during our long weekend in August every year -- it is quite the place to be.  The hotel shown in the left background of the picture is the Ocean Pointe Resort--it is on the other side of the harbour if you were to enter from the water.  It is a huge hotel and very nice.  So come visit Victoria and I will show you where the fake Amazing Race clue box stood that got me all excited. :bliss: :bliss: :bliss: :bliss:

So was this a change in TAR8?  Maybe they did not want the Weavers to end up trying to drive to England?  I can hear Mother Weaver - "Remember what I taught you in home school.  There are British people in England.  Where else could it be?  I was right earlier about the Great Lake in Louisiana."

Yah! I can't wait for the Amazing Race: Family Edition to come. It's one of the best reality shows around.

Incidentally, when I was in Victoria a few months ago, I came across this..... a marker???
