The background skyline, the waist-high fenceposts...looks close enough for me.

the way I see is that tvguide edited out the middle part. So the warehouse and the pitstop is in Brotas. There're more Indians in the rural area than in the urban area.

Sorry, but I disagree.  I doesn't say Indians, it says locals, and locals don't necessarily mean Indian.  IMHO.

I'll side with Buckaroo on this one. Indigenous usually means "Indian."

I'm just playing catchup and trying to piece some things together which may or may not have been determined. I'm putting my thoughts here so feel free to add to or correct.

11/7 Day 1. Travel from Denver to Sao Paulo (overnight in air)

11/8 Day 2. Arrive Sao Paulo - Do Detour and Roadblock??
Arrive pacaembu stadium and grab morning bus departure time from selected tent
Overnight in stadium/tent
(Note: double d's are wearing pink)

11/9 Day 3. Travel by bus to Brotos?
Waterfall adventure (is this the roadblock?)
Pit stop.
(Note: different day since double d's are wearing yellow)

Thats 3 days before pitstop which fits in with Lisa and Joni's statement of "going without a shower for 3 days".

The mileage went down in Phil's latest comments -- now it's over 50,000. We might be missing one leg, but I'm thinking not much more than that.

Quote
EPISODE 12 (HOUR 1)
START: Tokyo, Japan (December 1, 2005)
FINISH: Anchorage, Alaska (December 2, 2005) – might be pit stop or just rest stop
Rusts flying service, skiing (if this isn’t Fran/Barry in CO footage?), sighting in airport
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 3487 miles (flying) + driving/biplane miles

Do you include the distance of connections? I bet they do.   Because Tokyo to Anchorage seems to go through Seattle.

Good call Chateau -- nope, my mileages were just as the crow flies. Connections alone probably give us another 5,000-10,000 miles.

Looking at the quick pace of the first episode (below), I do still wonder if we're missing a leg somewhere. The dates would allow it. Wouldn't be shocked still to have a second SA leg, another leg in Russia, something like that.

EPISODE 1 (HOUR 1)
START: Denver (November 7, 2005 AM)
Red Rocks Amphitheatre, I-70, various reddish rock formations surrounding teams in cars, sighting in airport
FINISH: Sao Paulo, Brazil (overnight Pacaembu County Stadium) (November 8, 2005 PM)
Hotel Unique, Via de Ifgenia bridge, Motorhead/Rotorhead detour, indigenous ceremony, stadium
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 5751 miles (plane) + driving/helicopter miles
TEAMS LEFT AFTER EPISODE: 11

EPISODE 1 (HOUR 2)
START: Sau Paulo, Brazil (Pacaembu County Stadium) (November 9, 2005 AM)
FINISH: Brotas, Brazil (November 9, 2005 PM)
Take Santa Rita bus, do task at waterfall (roadblock?)
Possible location of VW bugs
MILEAGE COVERED: apx 100-500 miles? (bus) + driving miles
TEAMS LEFT AFTER EPISODE: 10

Did Phil give away which direction the race route takes ,Deserts of Oman to mountains of Sicily to the winter snows of Moscow?

Phil quote

" with an existing relationship,'' tearing their way through five continents and more than 60,000 miles in 29 days.
Keoghan, a career adventurer, New Zealand TV host and author of self-help inspiration books such as No Opportunity Wasted, insists the new Amazing Race will be a return to the adrenaline rush of old. It will feature fascinating people living out their dreams in a series of exciting adventures, from the deserts of Oman to the mountains of Sicily to the winter snows of Moscow, in a mad dash to cross the finish line first and win $1 million.

It's The Great Race meets Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, with a dash of National Geographic thrown in for good measure, and a lot of waiting at airports.

Pondering the one page write up in TV Guide, I think the author has compressed three days into two days.  The 4PM and 5PM entries in the "diary" I think are from day 3 in Brotas, Brazil and not in Sao Paulo.  The second day in Sao Paulo probably ends with a sleep over in the stadium after locating clues which give them their departure times on the bus to Brotas the next day.  Phil does not usually talk to the teams until they reach the mat at the end of the episode. Just from the looks on the teams faces I think that the Double D's, the Hippies, and the two handsome ones are on the first bus out which means they were the first teams to locate clues at the stadium.

Lisa and Joni probably were the ones having trouble locating the clue box on the Viaduto Santa Ifigeniaq and then had trouble plutting the motor bike together and then finally finding the last clue at the stadium.  They are the only ones giving us a "confessional" which usually occurs at the sleep over spot at the end of the second day. This all seems to add up to the remark that the race "was a lot harder then we thought it would be" and fits in with Phil's remarks.

If the pattern follows in the first episode (two hour) of TAR9, then there will only be one Detour which we now know is the Motorhead or Rotorhead.  In all previous first episides there has only been one Detour and no Roadblocks. In the first four TAR's there also was a Fast Forward in the first episode, but not after TAR5.  So that means that on the third day in Brotas all tasks will be team tasks.

The usual scenario for the first episode is to have the teams go through a lot of travelling, using different modes of transportation, getting familiar with each other, sleepingout in the open, and learning of the joys and pitfals of travel in a foreign country with not knowing the language, etc. etc.  The harder tasks seem to start in episode two.

I feel wonderful being a TAR veteran! But you're right, practically everything here is recycled. I've bolded those that I cannot identify and those that are new. There are billions of TAR6 caps throughout all the previews, but one strangely disproportionate one is Hong Kong, which keeps repeating over and over. Any significance to this?

1. Plane landing. Never seen this before. Looks military to me though.
2. Digitally created horizon, from Opening Sequence.
3. Seljalandsfoss, Iceland, TAR6.1
4. Vatnajokull Glacier, Iceland, TAR6.1
5. Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, TAR2.7
6. Train, Voss, Norway, TAR6.2
7. Lake Michigan, Chicago, USA, TAR6.1
8. Highway 1, Iceland, TAR6.1
9. Camels, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
10. Parthenon, Athens, Greece
11. Skydiving, Cairns, Australia, TAR4.12
12. Mary sand-sledding, Matterhorn, Namibia, TAR2.4
13. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France, TAR1.2
14. Skyline, Hong Kong, TAR2.7
15. Horse Caravan, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
16. Pyramid, Cairo, Egypt, TAR5.5
17. Giant Clam, El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
18. El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
19. Germanic buildings, the one we've been discussing in previous previews.
20. Skyline, Shanghai, China, TAR6.11
21. Mountains. I think we've seen this before in TAR4, in the Dolomites.
22. Ascender, El Nido, Palawan, TAR5.12
23. Iceland Air plane. Discussed as before.
24. Citadel, Calvi, Corsica, TAR6.8
25. Beach I can't recognize. Hawaii?
26. Can't see this properly. Too dark...
27. More of Hong Kong, TAR2.7
28. Plane taking off, Chicago, TAR6.1
29. Looks like the Dolomites to me again. But it could be Sicily!
30. Corinth Canal, Greece
