Hopefully they have good jobs. We need to send a message to the populace. If they are a valet and a bartender, we must organize a boycott immediately as it is homosexualizing America.

I don't think there will be on line betting on this show anymore. Since the finale isn't live, too many leaks of the winners of the last few seasons, have stopped the betting.

OP here, and what does online betting have to do with my post? Did I say I knew because of online betting? No. And they are not the gay ones.

THEY'RE OFF!

The Race is on. Again. Only, when the new season of CBS' Emmy award-winning The Amazing Race kicks off February 28, the 11 globe-trotting couples will find that producers have raised the stakes, replacing last season's family-friendly sights with exotic stops to make this, once again, a truly amazing race.

"[The Amazing Race 9] will be unique, one of the longest we've ever done," promises executive producer Bertram van Munster, noting that this edition will travel 70,000 miles in 28 days through five continents, including stops in Russia, Sicily, Greece and (for the first time) Oman. Last season's show barely left the States. "This one also has a lot of good laughs and some sexual tension, more than ever," van Munster says. "There's some stuff going on between the teams" which, he hints, could involve best friends Danielle Torchio and Danielle Turner, a pair of recent college grads from Staten Island. Among the other teams van Munster suggests keeping an eye on: "The older couple," retired MASH surgeon Barry Lazarus and his wife, Fran; Mississippi dentist Lake Garner and his wife and assistant, Michelle; and best friends tutor BJ Averell of Los Angeles and filmmaker Tyler MacNiven from San Francisco.

"These people have a lot of fun," Van Muenster says of his new racers. "There will be a lot of outrageous behavior." - Craig Tomashoff

Cool but I had to go and check where Oman was. :umn: Guess this was where Phil was calling from --  "near the middle east".
So ya think the sexual tension involves the double D's and Jeremy/Eric? :smooch:

more of Oman .......

Oman is a Sultanate at the entrance to the Arabian Gulf

Each of the rulers in this region build clock towers. This one is located in a traffic circle near the Muscat, Oman airport

Here is one of the Oman forts, first built by the Portuguese, for which this was just a way stop on the route to India.

One Response to “Amazing Race 9 Currently filming”

sylla Says:

January 15th, 2006 at 2:36 pm
I can confirm that AR have been sited in Perth Western Australia in November, a friend works at the airport. There were about 4 teams noticed by staff. One of those teams has been given a fine because they had concealed food on them, they were trying to take chicken sandwiches off the airoplane.
Another team ( that had no money) was reprimanded for pushing to the front of the lines in customs.

Nice work, Puddin!

Here's my suggested map, though -- I see Oman after Russia.

EP1a: Denver (Red Rocks) (11/7) to Sao Paulo, Brazil (bridge, airstrips) (11/7-9??)
EP1b: Sau Paulo to Brazil/South America destination 2 (spec based on mileage) (11/10-11??)
EP2: Brazil/South America destination 2 to Segesta, Sicily, Italy (ruins) (11/12-14??)
EP3: Segesta to Rome, Italy (11/15??)
EP4: Rome to Corinth, Greece (diving into canal) (11/16-17??)
EP5: Corinth to Moscow, Russia (St. Basil’s, tomb of the unk. soldier, ballet) (11/18-19??)
EP6: Moscow to Oman (11/20-21??)
EP7: Oman to Perth/Rottnest, Australia (11/22-24) (newspaper, Woodside building)
EP8a: Perth/Rottnest to Darwin, Australia (11/25) (newspaper/sighting) TBC
EP8b: Darwin to Adelaide, Australia (sighting 11/26)
EP9: Adelaide (11/26) to Lopburi, Thailand (elephants, monkey festival)
EP10: Lopburi (11/27-28??) to Tokyo (11/29-30??) (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)
EP11a: Tokyo to Anchorage (12/1-2) (sighting, red plane)
EP11b: Anchorage to Denver (12/3)

SEVENTY THOUSAND MILES, THOUGH???! Whoa. I wonder if we're missing a major leg somewhere... BUT...

Nice work, Puddin!

Here's my suggested map, though -- I see Oman after Russia.

I think Puddin placed Oman there because this from Phil on 11/11/05:

"There will be some prominent landmarks featured," promised the typically secretive Keoghan by cell phone from the set of the show's ninth season, now shooting "somewhere near the Middle East."

Oman looks like the best bet for middle east.

Y'all are smarter cookies than me. Here it is with changes made... I still think from the history of the show that you'll have 2 legs in Brazil or a nearby S. America country -- Denver to Brazil to Oman is a lot of ground to cover in a 2-hour premiere.

EP1a: Denver (Red Rocks) (11/7) to Sao Paulo, Brazil (bridge, airstrips) (11/7-8??)
EP1b: Sau Paulo to Brazil/South America destination 2 (spec) (11/9??)
EP2: Brazil/South America destination 2 to Muscat, Oman (11/10-12??)
EP3: Muscat, Oman Segesta, Sicily, Italy (ruins) (11/13-15??)
EP4: Segesta to Rome, Italy (11/16-17??)
EP5: Rome to Corinth, Greece (diving into canal) (11/18-19??)
EP6: Corinth to Moscow, Russia (St. Basil’s, tomb of the unk. soldier, ballet) (11/20-21??)
EP7: Moscow to Perth/Rottnest, Australia (11/22-24) (newspaper, Woodside building)
EP8a: Perth/Rottnest to Darwin, Australia (11/25) (newspaper/sighting) TBC
EP8b: Darwin to Adelaide, Australia (sighting 11/26)
EP9: Adelaide (11/26) to Lopburi, Thailand (elephants, monkey festival)
EP10: Lopburi (11/27-28??) to Tokyo (11/29-30??) (shopping district, Mt. Fuji)
EP11a: Tokyo to Anchorage (12/1-2) (sighting, red plane)
EP11b: Anchorage to Denver (12/3)

Good call - I just threw Muscat in there because of all the pretty stuff.  :js: You can just see the panoramic shots of that city now.

Actually, based on the air dates, it looks like we have all the episodes covered (counting the 1st 2 and the last 2 as one since they are 2 hour episodes). Big mysteries left w/ the route are 1) if the 2nd leg in Brazil/S. America is right and 2) where they came up with that mileage number. 60,000-70,000 miles is a TON. One trip around the earth at its fattest point is about 25,000 miles. Even with zigzagging, I don't know how they got to that mileage number.

Actually, I guess we could have some combined legs we've misidentified -- like Sicily/Rome could be one leg. That would open up the possibility of another destination...  ???

 Regarding the picture posted earlier.

1. Why do they have plastic bags?  Could they have been mugged by Phil?

2. They are clearling not in the US.  Look at the sing. It reads something like Á.....ita. The Á is not used in the English language.  But I think in Portuguese you use it. So maybe it was taken in Brasil.

3.  And the guy in the background.  That may gives us a clue from where it was taken.

I will have a look a the sign, and see what I find.

They weren't mugged charlierose , its most likely the first Continent Brazil after the states ..see they are wearing the same shirts and have backpacks ..BUT I would love to know whats up with the bags ?
I have to wonder why this is the photo that TV guide chose to publish or is it CBS that decides ? ..could be bad sign for John & Scott ...remember the Blacks ? or the other teams that we're featured early on ..

I dont know if I am being to picky. But I really dont think that the picture in the TV Guide and the preview are the same day.  Look at the guy wearing the black shirt.  In the TV Guide photo he has a black shirt on top of the black tshirt and has his dark eyeglasses. But in the picture in the car he does not have on the black shirt or the dark eyeglasses.  Again dont think is the same day.

One more thing. This two guys have a blue backpack.  This backpack is not seen on the TV Guide picture.  What do you think?

When the intro video is put into slo-mo, you can see the "red-rock" type formations they're driving past; so I'd guess that photo is near the starting line.
As for the TV guide photo, I'd like to find the digital original; until more info pours in, Sao Paulo is as good a guess as any (does portuguese use the accent marks on the A?).

Addition: Yes, portuguese does use the acute accent marks.

Maybe they have to shop like in TAR7  , you know collect items ? thats why they have the bags or are they bags from an airline or something?

SHOP OR SCHLEP?
Landing in Santiago, Chile, Rob & Amber took an early lead out of the airport with Ron & Kelly as the two Teams shared a funicular to the statue of the Virgin Mary. Opening their clues, the Teams encountered a Detour. In this Detour, Teams had to choose between Shop and Schlep. Teams choosing Shop had to travel two miles to a restaurant to receive a traditional Chilean recipe from the chef. Then, in a crowded market, Teams needed to buy the five ingredients for the recipe and return to the chef to earn the next clue. Teams choosing to Schlep had to travel nearly two miles to a bookstore and deliver 180 books eight blocks to the Library of Congress to receive their next clue. Not wanting to buy the ingredients using their own money, both Ron & Kelly and Rob & Amber opted to Schlep books.

startline ,John has on the same pants as in the car
