PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Six teams left USA for Central American country of Panama, raced on the Canal. Weavers incited the Linzes. "Bitch!" The Paolos raced the Gaghans to the Fast Forward, and DJ faced his fear of heights. Linz and Godlewski bonded at the Detour. Then, at the Roadblock, Bill Gaghan hit one out, and Sharon Godlewski went down swinging. The Paolos finished first; the Godlewskis, last. They have to start the next leg with only the clothes on their back.

Six families remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Phil: This is the Panama Canal, a marvel of engineering. At the edge of the Pacific, the Miraflores Locks, the 5th pitstop in the Race. The Godlewskis were not eliminated, but were stripped of everything. Will they be defeated by this obstacle?

Paolos, 8:22 pm, CLUE: Travel to San Jose, Costa Rica.
Phil: One of 3 charter buses, leaving 30 min. apart, 1st come 1st serve. Drive to the top of Volcan Poaz for the next clue.

A surprise start! The Paolos argue. No!!

Weaver, 9:11, start with a prayer. When, oh, when will the Gods of Irony bestow upon these two teams ... ??

Teams call for, and wait anxiously for taxis.

Bransen, 9:16 pm.

Linz, 9:17 pm.

Gaghan, 9:23.

Gaghans get a taxi before the Weavers. Some tight taxi squeezes!

Godlewski, 9:43, begin to raise money.
Hello, boys! We lost our Mommy! 

Paolos reach the bus lines first, 11:30 am departure.
DJ: I don't want Florida to see us!

Linz, gets help from Paolos to seize the 2nd 11:30.
Gaghans make it to the bus terminal same time as Weavers.
"Florida" and "Rugrats" race, with Mom Paolo giving directions to her faves.

Weaver, Bus #2, Noon.
Gaghan, Noon.

Finally, Bransen, Bus #3, 12:30.

Linz, Paolos arrive at night. They take vans toward the Volcan Poas.
Linz and Paolos co-hire another vehicle to show the way.

Bus #2 arrives. The eight of them walk together.

Episode 8-6 - I'm Sick of Doing Stuff I Can't Do
We are at the Miraflores Locks on the Pacific edge of the Panama Canal in (surprise) Panama, the fifth Pit Stop in a "race around the world".

The Paolo family, who were the first team to arrive at , are the first to leave at 8:22pm. They're told to travel 600 miles on a charter bus to San Jose, Costa Rica. That's a helluva long ride.

There are three buses for 2 teams each, departing 30 minutes apart. When they reach San Jose, they need to drive themselves 30 miles to the rim of Volcan Poas. They grab a taxi.

Weaver, 9:11pm. They say a prayer, and note that they've been raised not to trust anyone else. That's a rather un-Christian attitude.

Bransen, 9:16pm. They note that they have $74 for this leg.

Linz, 9:17pm. They manage to get a taxi before either the Weavers or Bransens.

Gaghan, 9:23pm. They also get a taxi quickly by going to a hotel.

The Weavers and Bransens finally get taxis.

The Paolos are at the bus station, and get Bus #1 at 11:30am. The Linzes arrive and get Bus #1 as well. DJ doesn't mind - after all, it's not Florida (Weaver).

Godlewski of course recieve $0 as a result of being the last team to arrive at the non-elimination Pit Stop. And now they're begging for it, using their feminine charms. And they're dragging their clothes around using a pillowcase.

Weaver and Gaghan get the 12:00pm bus. Bransens arrive and get the last bus, as do Godlewski.

All the buses leave. It's nighttime in Costa Rica, and the Linz and Paolo family arrive. They head to the car park, which thankfully is open 24 hours. They head out.

Bus #2 arrives. The two teams are looking around. Bus #3 arrives, and the two teams get help to find the car park. Noone's having any luck.

Weaver and Gaghan try to figure it out, as the "Desperate Housewives" figure it out first.

Godlewski: Omigod! We caught up!!
Gaghan, Weaver, Godlewski grab vans and start them .. only to find they're stick shifts with hinky shifters. Lots of stalling.

Gaghans move into 3rd.
Godlewski, 4th.
Bransen, 5th, arguing who'll ask directions.
Nobody does.
Dad's chicken; they're stubborn.
Weavers pray aloud, thank the Lord for seeing a familiar sign.

Paolos reach ...
LOCKED GATES.
Equalizer!
Park's closed.

Linz, Gaghan, Godlewski, Weaver, Bransen, follow and wait till dawn.

Mad dash at grand opening! Run! Run! Run!
And "kids are free!"

And run, they do ...
Linz, CLUE: Something's brewing at the Doka Estate.
Phil: 17 miles away at a coffee plantation, the next clue.
Teams run back to the vans, from the volcanic mountain. Kewl!

In order, Linz, Gaghan, Paolo, Weaver, Godlewski, and no-stickshift-Bransen bringing up the rear.

Teams tailgate on a narrow road.
Linz make a vow to be "mean for a day."
Weavers, ask directions. Gaghans pass.
Someone: GO SO WE CAN YIELD THEM!!

CLUE, Godlewski: Travel to JACO.
Phil: At this surf shop, Javier will give them the next clue.
Mom Paolo gets the second red bean.

Weaver: The Cleavers yielded us!

Linz, red bean in 3rd place, head for Jaco.

Weaver daughter: They're all ganged up against us!
Mom: They are!

Bransen, 4th finishing the beans, head for Jaco.
Mom Gaghan is getting frustrated, raking through coffee beans.
Dad: Just stay what you're doing.

Meanwhile, as the hourglass slowly empties ...
Mom Weaver: We may be eliminated! We're in last place!
Daugher Weaver: No one wants us here!

Teams finally find the Car Park and head out. There are some stick shift issues. Wally refuses to look for directions. The Weavers keep asking God for help.

Linz and Paolo arrive, and find out that the park is closed. ****, it's a bottleneck. Needless to say, everyone catches up.

Morning, teams are preparing to run for it. Linz are first to the cluebox. They're told to head to the Doka Estate. Oh, and there's a Yield ahead.

Linz are out first, followed by Weaver, Gaghan, Paolo, Godlewski and Bransen.

Linz are planning to maybe Yield the Weavers. As mama Weaver asks for directions, the other teams pass her. And it seems that the other teams want to Yield the Weavers as well.

At the Estate, Phil explains the Yield - and there are only two of them in this Race. The Paolos reach the mat first, and choose to Yield the Weavers.

Roadblock - find the red coffee bean among 800 pounds of beans. Marion Paolo takes it. Also doing the Roadblock are Tammy Gaghan, Maureen Bransen, Megan Linz and Trish Godlewski.

Godlewski are out first, and are told to travel to a surf shop in Jaco (94 miles away) and find Javier. Marion Paolo finds the bean next.

The Weavers arrive and find out that they're Yielded. They then make fun of Tony Paolo.

Megan Linz finds the bean next. The Weavers make fun of the other teams. Sore Yieldees.

Maureen finds the bean, as does Tammy. They pass the Weavers and wish them luck. The Weavers act like they've been insulted.

Mom: No. We won't play that game. We're responsible to a higher authority. We'll go as far as we can go.

Oh the highway, Godlewski van takes the lead.
Paolos, arguing in the van, 2nd place now.
Linz, 3rd.
Bransen, 4th.

Gaghans still at the Roadblock.
Weavers begin the bean challenge.
Rachel takes the rake.
Mom: Pray, Rachel! Pray!!

Teams arrive at Jaco.
DJ: Do you know where surf shop is?
Southern drawl dude: This waaay is the maaayne drayag. (Pointing drunkenly ...)

Tammy Gaghan, still looking.
Rachel, finds a bean!
Gaghans: Omigod.
Bill: C'mon, Mommy!
Billy: We're the last one here?
Chris: There's NONE in her pile!
Bill: There IS one, I promise.
Finally, Tammy finds it. They depart, in last.

Paolos, Bransen, DETOUR.
Phil: Relic, or Ripe.
Relic: Teams make their way to a rain forest, take 6 road bridges, to find 4 relics. Once they deliver them, next clue.
Ripe: Gather 15 bushels of bananas, load onto tracks, haul to a distribution center for the clue.

Linz, 3rd. Godlewski, 4th.

Dad: I'll lift the damn things!
Dad oofs his way ...
Dad: They're freakin' heavy!
Mom, to DJ: Get OVAH HEAYAH!!

Daugher: What's a relic?
Bransen Dad: Something from the past.

Bransen, Linz, relics.
Dad Bransen: Whoa! That's high! (It's a footbridge over a ravine!)
Whew! Scary! Awesome!

Weavers reach the surf shop, get DETOUR clue. Relics.
Paolos get 3rd bunch of bananas, lift as a team except for Dad who's about to throw his back out!

Bransen, "getting nervous!" Finally they find some relics.
They have to collect 4 different ones.
Linz, collecting different animals.

At the surf shop, Gaghans, last, go for the rain forest/relics challenge.

Paolos have their bananas loaded ... hauling now along a tether ... CLUE: Drive yourselves to the town of Quepos.
Phil: This sandy beach on the edge of the Pacific, is the pitstop. Last team may be Philiminated.

Bransen carries heavy relics.
"Omigod! Are they huge!"
They finish the relics, in 2nd, head for Quepos.
Linz finish close behind, in 3rd.

Weavers "go for some Mayan sculptures! GO!"
Godlewskis finish in 4th.
Suddenly ... It's POURING RAIN. A gullywasher.
The Gaghans disagree over how fast to drive in the storm.
Billy: Dad! Is that all you got!?
They arrive, realizing they're in last.

Finished with the relics, the Weavers, trying to leave, get the rear tire stuck in the wet grass. It sinks ... sinks some more ... they push ... it sinks some more ... and ask a local for help. He looks befuzzled.
Mom: I can't! You guys! I can't do this!

The Weavers refuse to play the Yield game, and say they answer to a higher power, and consider it cheating. Hey, don't hate the playas, hate the game.

The Yield is up, and Rachel Weaver takes it as Tammy is still looking.

In Jaco, the Godlewskis are looking around. Paolos are still looking around.

Rachel Weaver finds the red bean. Tammy FINALLY finds it, and the Gaghans are off in last place.

Bransen and Paolo find Javier. It's a Detour - Relic or Ripe.

Relic - travel to a rain forest and traverse rope bridges to find four relics.

Ripe - travel to a plantation and gather 15 bushels of bananas and pull bananas to a distribution centre.

Bransens opt for Relic, while Paolo take Ripe. Linz arrive and take Relic.

Gaghan decide to pick up a local to help them find the clue. Godlewski reach Javier, and decide on Relic.

Paolo start the Ripe task. Linz and Bransen arrive at the rain forest.

In Jaco, Weavers find Javier and take Relic. Paolos have gathered 8 bushels already. Bransen and Linz gather the relics. Gaghan find Javier and take Relic. Paolos finish the Ripe task. They're told to travel 20 miles to the Pit Stop at a beach in Quepos. The last team to arrive may be eliminated.

Bransens finish the task, as do Linz, and they're off to the Pit Stop. Godlewski finish the task as the Weavers start. Gaghan arrive as Weavers leave. Or maybe not, as God has seen fit to get their wheels stuck in the grass. They can't push it out and start freaking out, as the Gaghans find the Relics.

Mama Weaver is still freaking, and manages to get the van out. They're off, and the Gaghans are just finishing up. Paolos are in Quepos, as Bransen and Linz arrive. Paolos reach the beach, and are running to the Pit Stop. The Bransens and Linzes are trying to catch up. It's a 3-way race for first, and team number one are - the Paolos! They've won either an ATV, a Vespa or a Segway - their choice.

Linz family are right behind as team number two, and the Bransens are team number three. Godlewski arrive and are team number four.

And it's the race to not finish last. Bill Gaghan is very upbeat, while the Weavers are just looking around. Which pretty much means that the Gaghans are finishing last. Sure enough, the Weavers arrive in fifth. The Gaghans are walking, and are the last team to arrive, and they have been Philiminated.

Next week, Tony Paolo can't keep his head above water, and Wally loses patience with his kids.
