Probst may be quitting Survivor
« on: October 07, 2005, 12:52:37 PM »
I'll either write a story about this or go into some depth in Thursday's "Potpourri".  Chalk me up as somebody who thinks that anybody with half a brain could do Jeff Probst's job well and that this is no big loss.

I read an article a while back where Phil Keoghan stated that it was a toss-up between Jeff Probst & himself as to who would host which program...TAR or Survivor.

Perhaps Phil is sick of TAR and will want to replace Jeff on Survivor.  I think that'd be great.

I'm pretty sick of Jeff, anyway.  He acts like such a tyrant...he's really not at all sympathetic with the contestants.

I read some article that cBS was training Andrew Savage from PI to take Jeff's place. I don't know how reliable the article is.

Beating up on Jiffy has been a cherished pasttime for, oh 10 installments of Survivor.  I've done it, I'll admit.  But I'll say right now that it wouldn't be the same without him.  And I'll add that there is a fair chance it wouldn't be better.

In some ways, the show has hit a wall.  Would a new host shorten or extend the life of the franchise?  I think the expectations for any replacement would be super-high and unrealistic.  And if they re-tread a former player, there's a strong likelihood they'll overestimate how well he (or she?) would do in the new role.

Phil from TAR?  Okay.  That wouldn't be bow-meets-iceberg.  He's a known commodity, though his role in TAR is intro-ing challenges and telling contestants ... "Jack and Jill," [pause several seconds ...] YOU'RE TEAM NUMBER FOUR!"

Phil from TAR was 2nd in line for Jeffy's job when Survivor first started. However, I am thinking that Colby D. from S2 and ASS will get the job! I had not heard about Andrew Savage!!

I was going to throw Ethan Zohn's hat in the ring.  I think you could replace Jeff with Ethan and not lose a beat.

Colby a lot of people find really annoying (myself being one of them).

Rupert is to emotional. Look at him rip that chocolate bunny! Trump? He isn't even that good at his show.

Jeff probably wants more money.

Yeah, I think Rupert would be too much of a cheerleader to be the host.  If I were to guess as to which ex-Survivors would be considered I would think Ethan, Colby (unfortunately), and Boston Rob would all get long looks.

PASSING THE TORCH?
October 8, 2005 -- 'SURVIVOR" host Jeff Probst, who's hosted all 11 editions of the CBS reality show, wants to leave the show, according to a published report.
Inside TV magazine says that Probst, 42, wants a more relaxed lifestyle and wants to settle down with his girlfriend, Julie Berry, who competed on "Survivor: Vanuatu."

The magazine also says that Probst has told "pals" that he wants to get out of his contract after this season of "Survivor," which takes place in Guatemala and is currently airing Thursday nights.

"CBS really likes Jeff and they don't want to fix what isn't broken," a CBS insider tells the magazine. "But if they can't have jeff, they love the idea of having a former 'Survivor' host the show."

Toward that end, the network has reportedly auditioned "Survivor: Pearl Islands" contestant Andrew Savage for the job.

"Based on the accuracy of this item, the magazine that published it should rename itself 'Outside TV,' " a CBS spokeswoman said yesterday.  ]][

"Survivor," which kicked off in 2000, is one of TV's top-rated reality shows and usually averages around 20 million viewers.

'Survivor' Host Gushes About New Love

Tue Oct 11, 8:00 AM ET

NEW YORK - "Survivor" host Jeff Probst can't stop gushing about "Vanuatu" contestant Julie Berry.

"I finally met someone who could teach me about love," Probst says of Berry in the Oct. 17 issue of People magazine.

Berry, one of 18 contestants on CBS' "Survivor: Vanuatu — Islands of Fire," was among the five still in the running before she was voted off by her rivals. The winner of the ninth edition of the reality show was revealed in December 2004.

The couple didn't start dating until after the show was over, Probst has said. His five-year marriage to Shelley Wright ended in divorce in 2001.

Berry, 24, has moved from Gorham, Maine, to Los Angeles, where she is earning her master's degree in marriage and family therapy at California State University, Northridge.

"Being committed to each other — that's the point," Berry tells the magazine.

Meanwhile, Probst, 43, is mulling renewal of his "Survivor" contract, which is up after he tapes the show's 12th edition this fall.

"There's the inevitable point where you go, `Do I want to do other things?'" he says. "But ... I'll never have as good a job as `Survivor.'"

"Survivor: Guatemala" is now airing Thursday nights (8 p.m. EDT).

boston rob, palease,a host he definatly is not.watching colby every week would suck so bad.hardly anybody remembers savage.use this to make the show better, bring in someone who has a big fanbase, you might get some new viewers, isnt that the point of a successful show.id like to see bob barkers out there,in his 3 piece suit and his long thin microphone, sweating his ass off.i can see it now and im laughing,or bring in the most popular survivor of all time...rubertsbutcrack,lol.johnny fairplay would make a great controversial host.
