Gettysburg isn't even an hours drive from Lancaster .

NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Paolo kid: Mom, please be quiet. Please.
Phil voiceover: The Paolos continue to feud.
Mom: None of you ever, ever listen to me!
Kid, driving: Gimme the damn map!

Phil voiceover: The families find themselves in a Civil War battle.
Looks like Gettysburg to me
Teams participate in a battle, shooting, carrying bodies on stretchers.
Various contestants: Unbelievable! Goosebumps! Can't even put it into words!

Phil voiceover: And Wally can't keep up with his daughters.
In a field, two daughters lift a stretcher.
Wiping sweat, Wally: I can't, guys. Ugh.

Looks like this?

Shoe House Will Not Be Bed and Breakfast
The Shoe House, a landmark in the York, Pennsylvania, area (not far from Lancaster County, which is best-known as home to the Amish) will not become a bed and breakfast after all. According to an article in the Hanover Evening Sun, the home was purchased by a couple who intend to continue its use as a tourist attraction.

A previous report that a couple had the property under contract and intended to use it as a B&B did not come to fruition. "I'm a typical woman. I love shoes," said new co-owner Carleen Farabaugh. "[This is] the most expensive shoe I ever bought."

The 25-foot-tall stucco replica of a shoe, located just off Route 30, is home to three bedrooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms and a living room. The current owners bought it in 1995 at a foreclosure sale, and have run it as a tourist attraction. It currently has an ice cream parlor on the first floor. The home was built in 1948 by Mahlon N. Haines as a to advertise his 42 Haines Shoe Co. stores in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Free weekend stays -- including servants, an automobile and a chauffeur -- were given to couples as part of the publicity stunt.

A covert operation? And then someone says he'll do it (Linz)? Sounds like a Roadblock to me...and I thought there wouldn't be Roadblocks in this version.
I thought that when we fought, I was to blame
Now I know you play a different game
I've seen you dance with danger; still wanting more

Here is Shoehouse.

Here is the route if Shoehouse is the first clue.

The odd thing is that they are looking at it in bright daylight!!?!!  And we know htat all teams check in way before sunset.

So here comes another wild ass prediction:   Pitstops for TARF are 24 hours

I posted this elsewhere but repeat it here:

The Annual Gettysburg Battle Reenactment was held on July 1 to July 3, 2005.  Our teams would be there on July 9.  The only Civil War Reenactment listed for July 9 - 10 is the Battle of Rich Mountain in Beverly, West Virginia. An important battle which secured the Shenandoah Valley for the Union.

But the battle area looks like it could be Gettysburg, but did TAR and CBS has enough clout to get all the re-enacters back for another go just for them on the weekend of July8 and 9? Hard to tell.

Nice scenes of my stomping ground in Washington, DC. The National Mall, Lincoln Memorial, Korea War memorial (and I never knew they were here)  Is there a pit stop here and do we lose another team before we reach Huntsville, Alabama??

The thing is if the Teams leave Lancaster and travel down RT30 it takes them directly to Gettysburg
FROM YORK, PA:  Take US Rt 30 West to Gettysburg.  At Gettysburg Square, complete ¼ of the way around the circle and go north on Rt 34 (Biglerville Road) 2.3 miles. Turn left on South Avenue. Patriot’s Choice entrance is 1/8 mile ahead.

I'm dropping the 24 hour Pit Stop idea.  I can't get the timeline to work with it.  I guess the team that is shown going by the shoehouse could have gotten very lost and and it took them several hours to find it.

12 hr Pit Stop mode
Thu July 7th, Race starts in NYC, teams set up tents before sunset in Philadelphia
Fri July 8th, 10 to 11 am teams head out to Lancaster area, Leg 1 ends 2:30 to 5:30 pm.
Sat July 9th, Leg 2 starts 2:30 to 5:30 am, teams go to shoe, Gettysburg, DC, ends on the mall by 4 pm, NEL, Phil flies out of Dulles that night
Sun July 10th, Leg 3 starts around sunrise, flight to South Carolina, task, board buses around 3 pm, busses arrive in Huntsville around midnight.
Mon July 11th, SUVs head out from 12 am to 4 am

I had to use an NEL due to the Huntsville observation that only one team had been eliminated at that point.
