If you have an RFF address you could ask as an "journalist for an online review" and supply the address if he needs to check the bona fides.
More oddities: I did a yahoo search of Ft. Benton and the only river business I could find that doesn't involve canoes is this one:
http://www.mroutfitters.com/boattrips.htm. But if they were poaching Lulf's business, their boats would be immediately recognized. On the other hand, if it was competitors, then Mr. Lulf might be even more talkative.

Please note that the dateline on this article from the Great Falls Tribune is September 17, 2005 and the events described happened in Ft. Benton from Wednesday through Friday of this week.  According to everything we have learned, TAR8FamilyEdition wrapped up between August 1 and 5. CBS has already shown us pix of the teams and unless TAR9 is off and shooting, this is all pretty much a bunch of hogwash!!

GMan this is the part that had me thinking that the Amazing Race was there in the summer .. although the writer of the story makes it seem recent  *(^

Lulf's first reaction was there must be some bigwigs afloat because there is a "no wake" rule on the Wild and Scenic stretch in the summer, and upstream motorized travel is not allowed.
But the motorized restrictions, which start the weekend prior to Labor Day, are lifted the weekend following Labor Day.

Good eyes. It definitely looks like a deal-killer.

Colleen Lulf contributed to this story.
As I read it, she was the whole story, all of which reduces Puddin's request to one sentence:
"So, you got any photos?"

I think the writer of the article ,DAN HOLLOW ,has some explaining to do
I'm writing to him now to try to make sense of what hes talking about . {l{

The White Cliffs Day Trip outside the no wake zone. From Memorial Day thru the Sunday following Labor Day the no wake zone is in effect so this trip then is anytime outside that time frame (mid-September thru mid-May). Yes, we think it is kind of complicated too! Call us if you need a more thorough explanation.

FWIW I wrote to Dan and asked when "exactly " the supposed teams were spotted on the river as filming for TAR8 ended approximately Aug 10th ..I'll let you know if he replies . The article is confusing to me with the " no wake rule" and all .

I spoke to the man John himself . The motorized boats were seen this past week, he really doesn't know if it was the Amazing Race but said there was definitly something going on because of the heavy traffic and all the activity and camara crews soo.. I just  assume it was some other show being filmed .

I saw crew members with much equipment and startling efficiency this morning (September 18) at the Holiday Inn Great Falls, Montana.  They had groups of equipment boxes marked with the names of at least two other cities.  I have no confirmation that this was in fact The Amazing Race except the story in the Great Falls Tribune about the Fort Benton river activities.  I myself am a big fan.

Is it possible that this IS Amazing Race #9, and that the application on the website for #9 is just a foil, the application is really for #10?  Or maybe, filming starts earlier than November.  They DID have to have applications turned in in July.

No, I can't really go back to the hotel.  I have read on another spoiler fan site that TAR#8 was rumored to be going to Pompey's Pillar (a Lewis & Clark site) near Billings, the CM Russell Museum in Great Falls and apparently Havre, MT (close to Canadian border).  Apparently there was something about "purple sidewalk squares" and these are ventilation grates for an underground mall in Havre.  These locations were mentioned back in July.

Perhaps the crew is filming extra footage of areas they already filmed this summer.  Although, that does not explain the boats on the Missouri River in Fort Benton on Friday.  By the way, Fort Benton is between Great Falls and Havre.

I have lived in Montana for a number of years now, and I have to say, if anything happened here this summer, word would have leaked out.  Great Falls, although with almost 60,000 residents is like a small town.  Nothing stays secret.

Another Mandy entry, this one from a specialist in the Louisville area, here

Most (80-90%) of these entries don't specify a season or episode, so I can only offer it up fwiw.

Update on the Fort Benton ,Montana article ..

This Had to be me !!!!!!!!!!! :cheeky: I told you that I left this dude Dan a message !

And on Monday, an intrepid Web surfer e-mailed the newsroom to say that the Fort Benton teams couldn't be from "The Amazing Race" because it concluded filming last month for its eighth show — dubbed "Family Edition, it premieres Sept. 27 —and filming for Race 9 won't begin until November.

Filming remains a mystery

OK, so we're not 100 percent sure the teams spotted racing upstream in boats on the Missouri River below Fort Benton on Sept. 15 were part of some future episode of "The Amazing Race."

Based on informed speculation by numerous folks in the Fort Benton area, the Tribune reported Sept. 17 that the teams were from the hit reality TV show on CBS.

But then last Saturday night, bright floodlights were set up near Tower Rock State Park south of Great Falls where "teams" were seen being filmed. A state film office rep said it was for a reality TV show but not for "The Amazing Race."

If anyone knows the real identity of those mystery teams, please call 791-1491 on Monday or email tribcity@sofast.net

And one more article from Montana   only because it has my interest now .

Tower Rock filming was related to reality-television show, state says
Montana is a popular venue for reality television shows this year, Iversen said.

"Five were shot in Montana this summer," he said.

Iversen did say that the filming at Tower Rock State Park was not for the television show "The Amazing Race."

ok one team arrived in montreal from chicago on flight NorthWestern 1792 at 5:00pm on July 30. One producer was with the team....they believed the other teams arrived from Toronto. The last flight the teams could have flown out from was direct from Minneapolis to Montreal - arrival time 22h30. There are 5 teams of 4 people left.

My fiancee and I helped a team to the Toronto Harbourfront to find the schooner Kajama. They are racing as a family of four. My fiancee and I watched for a few hours and saw the location crew return to the Kajama twice more, but no other teams arrived while we were there. We overheard the crew mention shooting at the CN Tower (possibly climbing the stairs?).

And we also overheard them mention the trip to Montreal as the next step on the route as mentioned. The crew was also waiting for "Bert" to arrive to make decisions. The man who they called "Bert" looks exactly like the picture of Bertram van Munster (producer and creator of TAR)on the Amazing Race website.

***** SPOILERS FOR TAR8 *****
A friend of mine in NYC just called me to tell me that his friend Ray thinks he saw TAR8 Families in New York City today.

We think it's really odd that families would be in NY and not headed immediately out of the country, and we agree that this COULD be a decoy.

In the event that it's a real spoiler though, here's what he told me his friend saw:

3 families driving down Broadway and stopping outside a place called Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) in Soho. The only other business there is a bank, so he doesn't think they were headed to the bank. There was a cop there who didn't seem to have a problem with them parking on the street.

Of the three families he saw, two were white and one was African-American. One of the families (don't know which one) had a really little kid who he thought was about 7 years old (I think he said it was a "he", and the kid must be at least 8, since that's the cut-off). The kid was yelling out the window (to traffic?) to "let them over."

They were driving cars (SUV's? I don't know.) and there were cameramen. The cars were fairly new and had different license plates (one was Michigan, one was New Jersey, the other was ??). That could just mean they were rentals we agreed that cars/SUVs would be likely (over cabs) because of the sheer number of people that have to be in each vehicle.

Anyway, we don't know if this is for real, or a decoy, or what, but my friend wanted me to post it on TARflies first so that we can check against any other spoilers that might come in!

Well...that wasn't a decoy. We saw teams walk into the EMS to get gear for the race.
I thought that when we fought, I was to blame
Now I know you play a different game
I've seen you dance with danger; still wanting more
Add another number to the score

More on Niagra Falls ..posted today Sucks
DrEmphy
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am the original Niagara Falls spoiler...and i assure you - they were here. I did not see the actual teams though.

The general feeling of Park workers is the later run at Terrapin point was decoys. The feeling is they did either a) an earlier run or b) a different area of the falls while throwing the decoy at Terrapin.

THE RACE DID have a Pitstop or Challenge (and most likely finish) at Joseph Davis State Park right outside of Niagara Falls.

Mark my words.

A wide open field. Only half of which was open to the public. HUNDREDS of security personnel.

I was hazy about what i Saw, but it only makes sense, and the higher ups arent talking. Now that I saw the cluebox...it's definite.
