Preview Guide: The Amazing Race: Episode 10 Preview 1/25/05

This leg of the race takes teams through a series of emotional peaks and valleys on an all new "The Amazing Race 6," airing Tuesday, January 25 on CBS.

It Always Comes Down To The Details

Teams race more than 3000 miles to city of Sigiriya in Sri Lanka.

In an Olympic-style relay to receive the next clue, one racer smokes the competition. Also, tensions continue to rise for one team as a stroke of bad luck brings one member to the brink of quitting the race; and a fear of heights plagues one racer who breaks into tears during the Detour challenge.

This episode of THE AMAZING RACE was filmed in Sri Lanka a few months before a deadly tsunami struck the country. At the beginning of the show, host Phil Keoghan will dedicate the episode to those who lost their lives and at the end he will provide information to viewers on how they can contribute to relief efforts.

THE AMAZING RACE 6

For much of its journey the Colombo to Galle line runs little more than a canoe's width away from peerless beaches, with not a tourist resort in sight. Fishermen's children play cricket amongst the coconuts while toddy-tappers clamber around 30ft above them. It is a delightful, stop-and-go journey, the coaches bobbling along like struggling fish on a line.

Sri Lanka has two varieties of intoxicating drinks. One that fascinated me was the Toddy, when I saw the Toddy-tappers while coming back from Galle. Toddy is a natural drink tapped from the tops of Palm trees. Men who do this work remind me of tight rope walkers for they move from tree top to tree top by walking on two ropes tied to two or more trees. Talk about high-risk work! When the Toddy is fermented, it becomes Arreck, and is produced in a variety of grades and qualities – some which can be real fire-water. Consume with caution!

The Ceylon Elephant Polo Association is headquartered in the town of Weligama, 15 miles up the beach from Galle. A World Elephant Polo Association tournament was held on the beach here in 2002.  Another tournament was held in Galle in 2004. So it could very well be that the detour consists of either scoring a goal in elephant polo - you ride along behind the manout who drives and steers the elephant and you just have to concenterate on hitting the ball through the goal.  The other task would be climbing the palm and walking across the high wire.  Upon completing the task the teams will get directions to travel by train to Sigiriya and find the Lion Rock Fortress where the Roadblock takes place.  Galle is in the south of Sri Lanka, Sigiriya in the north and are not close together. A train trip would take them back through Colombo. So it looks like we have several train rides to take during this ep.

Thanks for the warm welcome; always happy to have people put up with my wandering thoughts.  Here's another one. If they take the train down to Galle for the Detour of Elephant Polo or Toddy Tapping how do they then get up north to Sigiriya? Do tjhey take another train back to Colombo?  This could be the time that Adam and Rebecca have their big showdown after they miss the connecting train to Habarane-Sigiriya.  It certainly looks like the Fort Station in Colombo (good catch there guys especially picking out the white picket fence and Buddha statue in both pix). Some of the shots of the green and red tuk tuks are in rural areas (not Colombo city streets) perhaps on way from Galle Railroad Station to the Detour site, which could explain why Bolo is passing Adam in one shot.

All:  You have by far the best Vid Cap site on the internet.  I really appreciate your effort.  I have a question for you regarding the bunching that Jon and Kris mention in one of the previews.

It looks like the teams arrive in Sri Lanka during the morning. They have to go south towards Galle to perform the detour and then go back to Columbo and then to Sigiriya. This site shows Sigiriya closing at 1800 [http://www.worldtouristattractions.travel-guides.com/attractions/sig/sig.asp
Rebecca and Adam could have missed the train to the Sigiriya area (like Bolo and Lori did in Hungary) but still caught up in time before the park opened in the morning.

I just can't see the racers traveling all over Sri Lanka in one day.  The previews are just red herrings.

Hiya Pedaler!  *^?

I don't think the contestants do race all over Sri Lanka in one day.

If you look at this vidcap.....

Bolo is competing in the Detour, wearing his blue shirt!

But in this vidcap.....

Bolo is wearing a yellow shirt during the Roadblock.

Both the Detour and the Roadblock take place in Sri Lanka. Unless Bolo changed shirts because Lori told him he stunk, I would say that the events take place over two seperate days.

All, Thanks for welcome.  I noticed that Gingerman28 started posting here.  Now, if a couple more super sleuths start posting here, I won't have to visit so many sites.

I hope you don't mind me thinking out loud before I cast my vote in the poll.

Aaron/Hayden and Kris/Jon are clearly safe.

Lori and Bolo are shown screwing up at Sigiriya.  But as Banzai pointed out, Lori is not out of breath.  She couldn't have gone too far before she noticed she needed the additional clue information.  The CBS web site says some team members make a crucial mistake reading a clue.  That could mean more than one team and we are just not shown the other team(s) making a mistake.

Rebecca and Adam are shown missing the train but I think they catch up.  Their problem is that they've never finished higher than 5th in a leg (excluding their FF win).

Freddy and Kendra are the only ones being shown doing the elephant polo task.  Sonetimes the only team doing a certain task loses the leg.  Also, I think Hyperventilation in the next leg's title is said by Hayden and not Kendra.  Hayden said the word herself in Corsica while Freddy said it about Kendra in Ethiopia.

As you can see, I'm probably over analyzing the situation.  I guess I'll just sleep on it before casting my vote.

You know, pedaler...That makes sense. F/K could be in real danger of being eliminated. They are indeed the only team doing the elephant task.

Welcome by the way. You too gingerman :<(
