The biggest Loser
Texan:
The remaining "losers" now each had a one in five chance of becoming The Biggest Loser. All were determined to stay "above the yellow line" in order to stay in the game. The morning after Andrea's elimination, Kelly, Ryan, Mo, Gary and Lisa met up with the trainers and got a shocking surprise. Everyone was leaving the ranch for the day's workout. They were whisked away to a local high school to complete a fitness test. The fitness test was designed to evaluate how far the players had come since starting the Loser plan. Maurice was especially dreading the task, because on Day One he was unable to complete one lap. Bob took time to reassure Maurice that he was totally capable of completing the challenge.
While Bob and Jillian watched, the players made their way around the football field. Gary came in first at 1:36. Kelly was second at 1:45. Then Lisa (1:57), Ryan (1:58) and finally, Maurice (3:14)! Mo said he was exhausted and barely had a chance to catch his breath, before Bob and Jillian dropped a bombshell. Everyone had to do another lap, AND they had to beat their initial times. Bob held up a $100 bill and said that whoever increased his or her time by the most would get the $100 bucks. For Lisa, the cash was the perfect incentive. She said she'd "do anything for money." When the starting blast sounded, however, Kelly and Gary shot out in front. At the end of the second lap, everyone had beaten his or her previous times. In fact, Mo gathered the strength to sprint the last half of the lap - with Bob running right along side him shouting encouragements. His final time for lap two was 2:45. Mo had won the $100!
The following day, players were blindfolded and taken to a secret challenge location. When Caroline finally let the players see the challenge in front of them, they were shocked. They stood midfield in a football stadium. Positioned next to each player was a life-size cutout of how they looked on Day One. The images had an emotional impact on each of the players. Next to the cutouts were mannequins with weighted vests. The weight of each vest represented the weight each player had lost up to that point. In front of the vest was a pile of each player's favorite food; also totaling the amount of weight he or she had lost. For example, Ryan had lost 77 pounds and his favorite food is apple pie. So there was 77-pounds worth of apple pies piled in front of him. For the challenge, each player had to wear their weighted vests and run yet another lap around the football field. The player who completed the "weighted run" closest to his or her best time the previous day would win a 32" LCD flat-screen TV from CompUSA. The winner would also receive immunity - which for some was worth far more than a new TV.
For the third time in 48 hours, the players lined up on the track. This time they were handicapped by the extra weight that they used to carry around 24/7. The players were amazed by how heavy the vests were. Ryan likened his previous size to "carrying around a ten-year-old" all the time. Caroline gave the signal and the players were off! Gary charged out for an early lead, while Mo was quickly reduced to a fast walk. Gary finished first, followed in order by Ryan, Kelly and Lisa. Gary ran back to where Mo was trudging along and ran alongside him all the way to the finish. His sportsmanship impressed everyone - and helped keep Maurice motivated. When the results were tallied, Maurice had come in fifth, Kelly was fourth and, surprisingly Gary was third. Gary felt that not winning immunity meant he was sure to be eliminated. Between Lisa and Ryan, only one had actually beat their previous time and that was Ryan. He had won immunity! The players then took a moment to say goodbye to their former selves (in the form of the cut-outs). Maurice commented that he "had to dump with fried chicken." It was a tough breakup, he said, be he thought he'd make it through it okay.
Back at the ranch, Ryan and Mo compared notes on their previous eating habits versus their new eating habits. They lovingly discussed McGriddles and realized that back in the "real world" the temptations would literally be around every corner. Later, during a workout session with Bob, Gary realized he was "done." He didn't want to be at the ranch anymore. He missed his family. He was tired. He was sore. He was over it. That's not to say he wanted to go back to his old lifestyle. He was just ready to start his new one…at home. Bob told him that it was just as easy to psych yourself UP as it is to psych yourself OUT. Bob's tactic was to push Gary even harder during the rest of that day's training, and it worked. Gary accomplished his personal best on the treadmill and found renewed energy and motivation. Then Bob turned his attention to Mo.
Everyone, it seemed, had completed a Biggest Loser rite of passage except for Mo. But today was the day. Mo would complete the "Gate Run." The gate run involved running from the secluded ranch down a very long, hilly road to the front gate - and back. It was almost 2 miles roundtrip. Far more than a lap around a high school track. Even Bob admitted he was nervous, but was determined to keep Maurice movtivated. They started out together in a slow jog. By the midpoint, Maurice was saying he was sure he was going to die. At some point a light went on inside Maurice and he realized he was running. He had been happy just to be able to walk without getting out of breath prior to coming to the ranch. Now, he was running. And he kept running all the way to the end. After completing the "Gate Run", Maurice embraced Bob and called him "the best damn trainer in America."
Elsewhere, the other players were pumping up in preparation for the weigh in. Ryan and Kelly were playing the odds. There were three Red Team members left and Ryan wanted to use that majority to their advantage. He proposed an alliance that would vote out Maurice or Gary. Kelly, Ryan and Lisa did a pinkie swear to seal the deal. The weigh-in was nerve-wracking. Overall, the weight loss numbers were low. Two pounds here, five pounds there. Ryan came out on top once again, followed by Kelly. Despite losing 5 pounds, Mo was still below the yellow line. It was down to Gary and Lisa. Lisa lost 2 pounds, bring her percentage to 19.9%. If Gary lost just 3 pounds, he could stay in the game. Gary did better than that. He lost 6 pounds - making him the week's Biggest Loser and helping him stay in the game! Lisa and Maurice were up for elimination. It was a bitter pill for Lisa to swallow. She hoped that the former Red Team members would keep her in the game, but she wasn't sure.
Prior to elimination, both Lisa and Maurice appealed to various players hoping to sway voting in their favor. Gary and Ryan discussed voting Lisa off. While Ryan felt it was stabbing Lisa in the back and going against his word, he also thought it might be in his best interest to eliminate her. Ryan was very conflicted about going back on his word to Lisa and Kelly. Later, Maurice, Kelly and Lisa shared some emotional moments. They had all forged close bonds over the course of the competition and saying goodbye was going to be tough.
At the elimination, Gary started things off. He said he appreciated Lisa's humor and Maurice's support. He revealed his vote for Lisa. Kelly and Ryan were left and if their alliance held true, then Maurice would be voted out. Kelly, however, began to cry. She said she respected both Maurice and Kelly tremendously, but couldn't imagine spending one more week without Lisa. She had voted for Maurice. Would Ryan stick with his alliance or vote in his best interests? He actually said that Kelly summed things up when she said she could never vote for Lisa. "Because of that, " Ryan said, "I've chosen to vote for Lisa." Lisa burst into tears before having an angry outburst directed at Ryan. She couldn't believe Ryan would do it to her. Ryan knew he had betrayed her, but he also knew that if he was ever below the line with Kelly or Lisa, the other one would vote him out. It was survival of the fittest in every sense of the phrase.

Texan:
This episode began by illustrating just how big an impact The Biggest Loser competition has had not only on its players, but also on America. First, we caught up with Andrea, now a svelte size 6. She said, "Why would you go through all that hard work to come home and throw it all away?" Next, Lisa was shown working out in her local gym. She credited The Biggest Loser competition with changing her life for good. This was the best she's ever felt about herself in her life, she said. Next, it was back to the final four: Ryan, Kelly, Maurice & Gary. All of them would be going home soon - they just didn't know it yet.
Immediately following Lisa's elimination, the final four returned to the house. Kelly was just realizing that she was the final female competitor. And she was beginning to question Ryan's loyalty. In the confessional, Ryan admitted that he had betrayed Lisa and that he felt bad; however, it just came down to strategy. Later, he explained that to Kelly, who just rolled her eyes. When the trainers arrived, Bob could instantly sense a different vibe in the house - a relaxed, quiet vibe. He pulled Mo aside to congratulate him for making it into the final four. Maurice thought it would be great if he could pull out a double-digit weight loss this week in case it was his last. The first thing Bob asked him was, "Did you do your cardio this morning?" Maurice hadn't. Bob told Maurice that unless he took the initiative to maintain his workouts, he wouldn't see any results.
When everyone arrived at the gym, they received a special surprise. A sign was posted announcing that it was "Role Reversal" day and that the final four would be able to "Train the Trainers"! Ryan and Kelly gleefully told Jillian that she was going to learn about endurance. The final four devised a circuit training plan, followed by an hour of cardio, followed by even more working out. They even took bets on who could get a trainer to puke! Jillian definitely seemed to take the brunt of the abuse. Kelly immediately got into Jillian's face and said, "Does it look like Ryan and I are joking?" Meanwhile, Mo and Gary had Bob running at 12 miles-per-hour - the maximum on the treadmill! Bob was somewhat impressed that Maurice could remember every exact comment that Bob ever said to him. Jillian later said she too was impressed with how relentless her team members were - and she was already planning revenge.
Sure enough, things reverted back to normal and the trainers had plenty in store for the final four. While Ryan suffered and sweat, he told Jillian it was all worth being able to boss her around for an afternoon. Meanwhile, Maurice was up to 4.5 miles per hour on the treadmill, his personal best. In yet another display of how far these people have come, Bob & Jillian walked everyone down to the gate and had them run back up to the house. Maurice, who could barely make the walk on the first day, was jogging. Ryan, who also barely made the walk on day one, was right beside Maurice. The results over the past three months were more than physical, they were psychological as well. All of the remaining players declared changes in their outlook, attitude and spirit.
On their rainy challenge day, the players were ready for anything - and all hoping for immunity. Four large balloon bouquets (two red, two blue) greeted the players out on the soggy lawn. They soon learned that this would not be an immunity challenge. Instead, the winner would win a state-of-the-art treadmill. The challenge was for each player to stand on a large hay bale and hold one of the balloon bouquets over their heads with one hand for as long as possible. Despite their color-coordinated ponchos, the players were soon soaking wet and cold. After 20 minutes, wind and thunder kicked up. The increased wind made holding onto the huge balloon bouquets very difficult. Kelly was almost pulled off her hay bale by one big gust! Soon, everyone's fingers were numb. Ryan tried to play the psychological game by telling Kelly they were each probably experiencing the first stages of frostbite. With no immunity at stake, Gary and Kelly began to contemplate letting go. Kelly counted down from three and on "one" they both let go and retreated to the warm, dry house. After 45 minutes, Maurice gave it up. Ryan cheered as he released his balloons and was thrilled to have won the treadmill. That evening, everyone had a "last chance" workout before the weigh in. Gary and Kelly knew they were only a minor percentage point apart, which would mean immunity for one of them.
The next day, it was time to weigh in. The current leader, Ryan, was up first. He had lost an additional 10 pounds, bringing his percentage to 27.3%. Maurice was up next and had another disappointing week. He lost only one pound, which put his percentage of total weight lost at 12.8%. This meant he was probably below the yellow line and up for elimination. Gary held his breath as Kelly weighed in. She had lost five pounds, with a total percentage of 22.7%. This pushed Maurice below the line and put added pressure on Gary. He stepped up to learn he'd lost two pounds, but would his total percentage still beat Kelly? Barely, but yes. Gary's percentage of 22.9% pushed Kelly below the line with Maurice. Kelly or Mo would be eliminated
Since it was up to Ryan and Gary to decide who would be eliminated, the two definitely got appeals from both Kelly and Maurice. Later, Gary and Ryan conferred and seemed to agree that it would be in their best interests to keep Maurice in the game. If Ryan and Gary didn't unanimously agree and had a tie vote, then Maurice would be eliminated since he had the lowest overall percentage. At the elimination ceremony, Caroline asked Gary to reveal his vote first. Gary told Kelly and Mo that they were both incredible forces to be reckoned with, but that he had to eliminate the biggest threat. Surprisingly, that threat was Maurice! Next, Ryan started by saying he was happy Kelly was below the line because he wanted to earn her trust. He revealed his vote for Maurice. Before leaving, Maurice told Kelly, Ryan and Gary that he would be there for them in the "real world" and that any of them can call him anytime for support. Then Caroline announced another twist in the game. The three finalists would also be going home!
Ryan, Gary and Kelly would now have to apply everything they've learned to their real lives. When they regrouped in a few months, one of them would be deemed The Biggest Loser and win $250,000. The trainers were waiting in the gym for final goodbyes. One by one, each player said their tearful goodbyes to Bob and Jillian. Jillian presented Kelly with a diamond ring with the initials "BL". She said it was a reminder of everything she's accomplished. They hug and cried and hugged some more before Kelly left. Next, Ryan met with Jillian and told her he could not have done it without her. Jillian gave Ryan a ring as well, but it looked more like a Super Bowl ring than Kelly's had. Then it was Bob's turn to meet with Gary. Bob told Gary that at 175 pounds he weighed less than Bob! He presented Gary with the same style ring that Ryan had received. No tears were shed, but there were plenty of hugs.
The next day it was time for Gary, Ryan and Kelly to say goodbye to each other. As excited as they were to be heading home, they were all sad to say farewell to the Biggest Loser ranch. Finalists took anxious limo rides home to reveal his or her new self — tune in to next week's live finale to see their families' reactions! As for Maurice, the show caught up with him and he'd lost an additional 20 pounds since being on the show. His New Year's resolution is to lose 100 pounds in 2005. Blue Jean Baby:
Maurice is finally gone. i do not know why but i just did not like him. i have not seen every single show, i missed a couple but most of the ones i saw, he just was not trying... i did not like when he would walk through challenges or just not really really try and he would make them loose and then someone else would get voted out... it just always made me mad... He was the biggest one and lost about the least weight (there were just a couple that lost less then him, but they were voted out really early, no telling if they would have beat them if they had stayed longer, they probably would have). i just do not know why they kept him in so long...
Blue Jean Baby:
Who do you want to win? i want Gary or Kelly. Gary has done really well. They all have actually... it is amazing the changes...
Texan:
I want Gary to win. I have not watched all the shows...but I think he has tried the hardest.
