TAR Australia 4 Ratings
« on: October 29, 2019, 12:22:37 AM »
The first episode gained 635,000 viewers and was ranked at #8 for the night!

This was well up from TAR Australia 3's Premiere, however, we do need to be a little bit higher, considering the show in the same timeslot last week was well over 1 million viewers!  :funny:

2nd episode - 522 000 viewers and #10 ranking

https://tvtonight.com.au/2019/10/tuesday-29-october-2019.html

I would like to know a opinion of person who understand Australian TV market. Someone?

Are these numbers OK or bad?

I think these numbers are alright! Definitely not a poor result but on par/slightly below Ten's usual offering - similar numbers as to how Australian Survivor started on 10 and they have stuck with it consistently. I think they'll do the same with TARAu.

Not sure if it counts views from the 10play website but I can only assume not, so the real numbers could end up being just a tad bit higher.

It's not too strong honestly, I'd say it's pretty average. Look at the Block on Tuesday with 896k viewers and HYBPA on Monday was 816k in the timeslot afterwards. That is more the type of numbers I'd be hoping for.

The plus is we're already renewed, but if we weren't I'd be slightly concerned.

Those numbers are VERY BAD, especially given it's had wall to wall promotion in almost literally every commercial break for the last two months. Like up until this year, Australian Survivor has been averaging about 650k-700k and struggling for renewal each year, and The Masked Singer was averaging 900k in the exact same timeslots the last few weeks. This is a significantly more expensive show than either of those, with at most half the number of episodes of Australian Survivor (and I wouldn't be shocked if it's only ten episodes instead of twelve), and it's just gone down like a lead balloon.

I don't buy the line that this is on par with Australian Survivor either. Excluding the 2017 season (which for unknown reasons just didn't resonate with people), if this premiere was an episode of that show it'd be its twelfth-lowest-rated episode. And nearly all of the episodes that did worse can be traced back to either being foreshadowed as a NEL beforehand so nobody bothered watching (Anita getting sent to Redemption Island, the Dead Man Walking vote, 2016's merge that wasn't a NEL but was heavily implied as one), episodes directly after a NEL where people boycotted in protest, and the opening stretch of CvC1 where people hated the theme but returned when they heard it wasn't actually as bad as the premiere suggested it was going to be. And the only Australian Survivor episode that's ever done worse than 522k is the 2017 reunion, which: (1) 2017, (2) reunion, and (3) didn't start until after 9pm.

The thing that's most interesting is... like, the bulk of the preseason promo was built around the two old-person teams struggling (way to appeal to a young demographic, show) and Beau, a former pro athlete who is a complete unknown outside of rugby-loving New South Wales and Queensland. So you'd expect that the show would be getting its best ratings in Sydney, right? It's rated higher in Melbourne both nights and in Sydney the ratings absolutely tanked, doing 175k on Monday but only 124k on Tuesday. The two 5pm quiz shows both did better in Sydney on Tuesday. That's DIRE for a show Ten was clearly pushing as it's next big hit.

I know it's already been announced for next year, but that doesn't actually mean anything. Australian TV has a tendency to announce things and not follow through, and frankly if the ratings get much worse I would be concerned about it finishing THIS season let alone getting another one on air.

This. I don't know why people act like we have garanteed season 5 just because they announced it ones before season 4 even aired. I doubt they will consider another season after these ratings. :(

Ya'll are overreacting, if the ratings keep dropping then sure, but I can see them stabilising.

also Aus Survivor has no struggled to get renewed every year  :funny:

Yeah agree! It's too early in the season to make any conclusive decisions, plus the last two nights of Bachelorette in the exact same time slot on Ten have also been in the 500,000/600,000s as well. I don't think there is immediate reason to freak out just yet. Plus Ten have a history of sticking with shows...

The ratings are going up. Apparently Episode 6 did quite well, too.

There may be hope for that Season 5 yet.

Last night, we rated 611,000 and we were #7 for the night!

However, considering we are renewed for Season 5 AND Australia is in the middle of a non-ratings period, these ratings don't really matter!  :funny:

Last night's episode was coded into two programs - the first titled "Grand Finale" and the second titled "The Finish Line". Because of this, two separate sets of ratings were produced.

The Grand Finale had a rating of 620,000 and was ranked #8 for the night!

The Finish Line had a rating of 739,000 and was ranked #4 for the night!

https://tvtonight.com.au/2019/12/tuesday-3-december-2019.html

Hopefully, for Season 5, we can have a little better ratings than these which could give us TWO seasons a year, much like what Australia Survivor is doing in 2020!

Huh. Despite the hundreds of social media comments saying they wouldn't watch after Episode 11's fallout, the finale got the highest ratings all season!
