I believe Tyler & Korey never saw the first two teams after the first route info throughout the first leg :didimiss:

TEAMS
1. Leo & Jamal - I love their feud with the Survivor girls. And pushing Becca & Floyd to U-Turn Tyler & Korey was such a smart move. I don't like seeing them this dominant because it justifies their overconfidence (their cockiness in TAR 23 didn't work because they weren't that strong then), but it looks like that's going to change next week!
2. Nicole & Victor - Nice to see them prove their potential this leg! They seem like the "lovey dovey" couple of the season, wondering if that'll change anytime soon.
3. Rachel & Elissa - Kind of surprised they managed to place 3rd since they were midpack for most of the leg. I hate when whiny Rachel jumps out though :groan: because honestly that's when she performs her worst. I LOL'd at their indecisiveness to U-Turn. Even though using the U-Turn was unnecessary, I'm just glad it was used--I hate Double U-Turns when only one or none of them are used. It'll be interesting to see if any drama comes out of it in the future...
4. Colin & Christie - Also surprised they managed to sneak in 4th place. Pretty quiet leg from them aside from the zen confessional in the beginning.
5. Janelle & Britney - They've got to be the quietest team out of the two episodes so far. The only thing I remember from them this episode was that confessional when they were on the streets and one of them wanting a harness for the elephant :groan:
6. Corinne & Eliza - I've gotta hand it to them. They deserved at least a Top 3 finish because they raced hard this leg. I honestly found them similar to Kelly & Shevonne (S27) during the premiere episode but the difference here is that these girls can at least race decently.
7. Tyler & Korey - They haven't been annoying yet surprisingly but that's because they're not in the front as much. I assume they'll start doing well now that the U-Turn is out of the way.
8. Chris & Bret - I literally don't remember anything significant from them this episode.
9. Becca & Floyd - idk why but I don't really like them this season so far. They seem a TAD cutthroat and less fun, but I assume that's because they've got some bigger competition this season... and also they were U-Turned lmao (again!) It's kind of crazy how if a stronger team than Rupert & Laura was in the Race, they probably would've been eliminated this leg all because of Rachel.
10. Rupert & Laura - wait I actually adored them this episode lmao. Keep in mind I have never watched Survivor so idk if this is the general consensus. They're like the sweet older couple that I would've liked to see go far. I definitely think they could've gone a little further if they weren't up against TAR teams.

TASKS
Detour - pretty standard TAR tasks if you ask me. They weren't bad. Definitely changed up the order of the teams (shocker at Corinne & Eliza finishing the Detour 1st lolol)
Roadblock - really cool task but it's sad knowing what the elephants have to go through in reality :/ cuteness factor aside, this task was actually kinda boring. Didn't seem to switch up placements too much.

ADDITIONAL POINTS
- The editing was 1000000x better than last week. It really sucks how we just have to accept atrocious editing in premiere episodes because it wasn't always this bad! I loveddd how slow-paced the first 10 minutes were. Everyone was shown departing the Pit Stop and we got some airport scenes thrown in along with some inter-team drama (i.e Rachel & Elissa and Team Fun).
- While on the topic of editing, did anyone catch when Corinne & Eliza were like "Bret would be perfect for this task!" and then they cut to Chris & Bret lolol
- The first half of the episode was really fun with all the drama. Leo & Jamal vs. Corinne & Eliza and Rachel & Elissa vs. Becca & Floyd. They did a good job building up suspense leading up to the U-Turn. The second half of the episode definitely fell flat with the elephant task :/ and the lack of suspense!! A nice suspenseful ending would've topped what I thought was a pretty good episode.

This episode was OK (nothing more, nothing less!).

I didn't like the monk task and found it pretty pointless!

However,  I did enjoy the Detour and the Road Block and the little U-Turn drama!

Hey everyone! Wasn't able to catch the live TV episode because I just arrived home from a critical job function that was conveniently :res: hosted after my normal hours. Super disappointed I couldn't get to see teams travel to Laos for the first time, but I'll definitely be streaming the episode after it gets posted on the CBS website tomorrow night and providing a more detailed account of what went down tonight.

So far from the live updates I have been overviewing, the Detour sounds pretty straightforward yet challenging? Corinne & Eliza seem to be the team I might be looking out for when I watch. And I'm shocked Colin & Christie have yet to stir up their own drama - sigh. I'll definitely see what happened between Team Fun and the sociopath half of Brenchel, and how this impacted the U-Turnings.

Corinne and Eliza’s strategy for learning the alphabet was amazing! They are by far my faves at this point more for entertainment than for chances to win lol.

We need more one liners from Brit and Janelle though the bareback comment was great!

Thought Rachel and Elissa uturning was unnecessary. Why did Rachel feel like they HAD to?

This episodes editing was way better than the premiere. I liked the start task with the monks. The Detour was great, I loved the challenge to both sides, unfortunately the Roadblock sucked. It could've been better, because all teams were bunched up. Again, I hate U-Turns before Detours. I did love the flashback to season 5 though.

Rating: 4/5, Editing improved, Detour rocked, Roadblock sucked, some teams were great.

Teams I Like:
Colin & Christie
Rupert & Laura :( (wish they made it further)
Corinne & Eliza
Becca & Floyd

Teams I'm meh on:
Bret & Chris
Rachel & Elissa
Leo & Jamal
Nicole & Victor
Janelle & Britney

Team I don't like:
Tyler & Korey

That episode was such an improvement from last week!! Really enjoyed it start to finish. Finally Laps and such a great city too!! Tasks were good (roadblock could’ve been better) editing was really good, and enjoyed the drama. Really sad to see Rupert & Laura go, Rupert melted my heart with what he was saying about the elephants, made me sad to see him go, but I really love Team Fun so it was gonna suck either way. I’d really like to start seeing more variety of flights, we had that problem last season and it’s looking that way this season too.

Also side note, I know it may be a lot to ask, but for the final update (the “next week we fly to ___”) is there any chance we could start putting those in spoiler tags? I like to be surprised about where they’re traveling to when I watch the episode and I was stupid and not careful when I scrolled through the updates and now I know where they’re going :(

Well Becca & Floyd certainly showed they were a strong team when they flew through the Detour and probably would've finished in a better place if Becca had more luck choosing an elephant.

Plus Leo & Jamal were ready to U-Turn Tyler & Korey as well until Becca & Floyd came running up and as they would, encouraged them to do it instead so they wouldn't get blood on their hands.

Brittney's reaction for going to ride on an elephant is amusing  :funny:

I wish they'd shown what her reaction was when she had to go into the water with the elephant.

It was a decent leg overall, it helped that the result pleased me.  I suspect the language task wasn't judged as hard as they made out it would be, having super hard tasks isn't part of the race anymore.  I did think with the animal involvement it was going to be a non-elimination, but with the result I was happy at the surprise that it wasn't.

On the monk section at the start it's just one of those moments you get where the race stops and it's like respecting some aspect of the local culture, they've had that on the race various times before.

Also side note, I know it may be a lot to ask, but for the final update (the “next week we fly to ___”) is there any chance we could start putting those in spoiler tags? I always avoid previews and I think they are mainly for casual fans who aren't absolutely set on watching the next episode.  Spoiler people love them I guess, but most fans aren't into that kind of stuff anyway.

The U-turn before the detour being a death sentence wasn't the reason that I, personally, didn't like it. I just think it's fairer for the teams that finish the detour first to get to u-turn first. Also, the same thing happened last season with the Zimbabwe surprise double u-turn before the detour where Jody and Yale both survived. I guess the Zimbabwe surprise u-turn before the detour was kind of different/better though because it came right after a keep on racing.

rachel is queen and the world doesn't hate her they love her <3

the entire human race and their cats, dogs and pokemons are all hate them

Well, they're still human.

iam not sure, the silicon sister maybe the fourth gen terminator sent to destroy human race

btw why is survivor teams are all old and fat, team grannies, aunties and uncles, while BB teams are all young fit and pretty...

Well, I hope you realize that this is real life, not a conspiracy theory lol. Anyway, some people do love Rachel and Elissa, evident in some forums other than this. And I’m for sure neutral for now.

Something that came into my head, I remember people complaining last season and saying that the U-Turn before the Detour is a death sentence. What are your thoughts now, now that both teams survived?
Actually, U-Turn after the Detour killed way more teams than that.

If Eliza's old, then I need to sign up for a retirement home soon, because I'm a month older than she is  :funny:

Also side note, I know it may be a lot to ask, but for the final update (the “next week we fly to ___”) is there any chance we could start putting those in spoiler tags? I like to be surprised about where they’re traveling to when I watch the episode and I was stupid and not careful when I scrolled through the updates and now I know where they’re going :(

We can try...but once it is in the Media it isn't a spoiler anymore... so let's all try? But NO promises.

I definitely agree with that. To be honest, wasn’t a fan at first, but at least with this U-Turn, teams still stand a chance if they’re U-Turned. In the past, it’s felt like almost a guarantee that the eliminated team would be U-Turned.

Makes sense. When the U-Turn is before the detour, the u-turned teams have extra drive to get both detours done ASAP. U-Turn after the detour, a team maybe takes their time more. That said, I still like U-Turn after detour more.

I think I understand what you meant. If you're a fan of the drama causing by the U-Turn then after the Detour is the way to go.

Ever since TAR 19 cancelled a visit to Laos, we've waited over 7 years for this show to get another opportunity to visit Laos. TAR Vietnam broke the glass ceiling for visiting the nation, but I've still waited for TAR US to visit Laos. For me, the wait was worth it, and we were given a good episode. Laos looks stunning in this episode. The leg itself was pretty good, and any team had the chance to win or lose. The placement of the U-Turn before a Detour has been hit or miss for me. The best use so far has been TAR 29 in Greece, and the worst has been TAR 30 in Prague. In this case, I was fine with the placement. Everyone was one equal footing after the alms, and teams arrival at the U-Turn wasn't based on the luck of taxis. The Detour was also pretty balanced, so a U-Turn wasn't a death sentence. I also liked that it was a surprise because it forced teams to make a snap decision. It was surprising that it was used so early. The U-Turn on leg 3 in TAR 28 wasn't used likely due to the fact that several teams knew each other and didn't want to make enemies early. So, it was surprising that the Reilly sisters were willing to U-Turn, and I wonder if it'll be brought up in future legs.

The contrast between zen Colin and his highlight reel.  :funny:
Corinne & Eliza's mnemonics for the ABC Detour.  :funny:
"We did something."  :funny:
Chris naming his elephant Bret.  :funny:
"I can't end on an elephant. I love you too much."  :'(

ABC: Tonal languages like Lao are pretty difficult, so it was difficult but not impossible.
BBQ: I always like a good market task, and I liked that it combined market chaos with attention to detail.
Elephant: I liked the aspect of teams learning the Lao phrases and elephants are awesome, but this task was the weakest of the leg.

4/5

Eh, Drama is kind of the same regardless. It's more like what I said above where I just prefer that a team who finished a task first get first dibs on choosing to u-turn someone. I wouldn't mind U-Turn before detour per se if there was at least a Roadblock or something before it. It's all personal preference though. U-Turn before detour definitely leads to stronger teams getting u-turned which can be viewed as a positive or negative.

That's where the U-Turn vote comes in. To my opinion, this is the fairest kind of U-Turn. It's like democratic while U-Turn after Detour is like republic and before the Detour is democratic republic.

I almost feel like I should shift this convo to BMS thread (probably will if it goes on longer lol) but I actually don't like the idea of the U-Turn vote for that very reason. I think the power to U-Turn is something that should be earned.

Didn't they get some kind of readymade clue with some image beneath the letter which was something to do with how the letter sounded?  I assumed it was for that.  I'd rather they had to work out a scheme for themselves though, would have made for more drama.

Do you mean best/worst use in terms of where production placed it, or in how the teams used it? If it's the latter, I'd have to disagree that the 30 U-Turn was poorly used, because in that situation, Cody & Jessica really were racing for last place, so U-Turning the musicians was a smart move that ended up saving them from a possible elimination.

I was thinking this the other day! Kind of like the first Roadblock in S19 with memorizing the phrase--would've been cool to see 10 teams doing this Roadblock.

The Detour could've been Fish or Elephant but idk about the travel/logistics & if that would even make sense as a pair.

So I finally got around to watching the Laos episode and I was thoroughly impressed with the tasks and variety in navigation this leg with tuk-tuks, on foot, longboats, and via elephant. Finally some naturally engaging material! I got my questions of Colin becoming this zen person answered - when Elissa basically described the opposite of what he was in season 5 - and couldn't be happier for him pushing away his calamities. I feel bad for the editors now hoping they would act as if they were still pitting themselves against Charla & Mirna.
:lol3:
Corinne & Eliza blocking the tuk-tuk from beating them to the alms ritual site,. As for the ritual itself, I felt it was unnecessary on broadcast, a filler, and likely could have been a cool CBS exclusive clip.

The DETOUR (Boston Person Saying Everything or Freaking Out about Fish):
Lovely execution of the pre-Detour U-Turn, and I'm glad Becca & Floyd killed it at both tasks. Corinne & Eliza won me over with their imagination for the alphabet, "Team Life Hacks"! I would have loved if the skewering task offered teams share a sample of the grilled duck or tilapia afterward. It just felt strange seeing a food preparation task without some sort of end product teams could just grab on the go - like the empanadas from the premiere of season 20 (but that was a Pit Stop so I'd assume those were baked for the teams during the rest period [note: ask Art & JJ or Rachel if they ever got the empanadas]). Otherwise, I'm bummed that I didn't get to experience this episode live on Wednesday.

The ROADBLOCK (Slowest foot race to complete a task):
This is one of my favorite moments so far and I genuinely felt like this was a task that more properly showcased the care and adventurous quality for elephants than that deliberately forced labor from that Sri Lankan Millennium Elephant Foundation in godforsaken 24. It was a paced task, but yet it still felt like teams were having fun and racing along the way so I'm glad I got to see that (that first place foot race between Afghanimals and Nicole & Victor was intense!). Reminded me of TAR12's donkey task in Ireland where it all depended how well your reception with the animals were. I was hoping they would add more intense music when Rupert was stuck with Meredith & Gretchen's bad elephant but... :duno: :lol3:.

The PIT STOP (Prince Pretsarath's Palace):
I wish more legs had an intermediate navigation obstacle before arriving at the Pit Stop! That's all I'm saying! But the editing during this segment was such a mess. It's like they wanted you to feel bipolar. Was I supposed to be calm as a breeze and have adrenaline rushing through my system at the same time? Felt so sad for Rupert & Laura biting the dust after such an interesting comeback in the premiere, and I hope Rupert didn't fret on the loss too much. They are one remarkable couple!

Next time on The Amazing Race preview: Afghanimals cracking before the other half of Brenchel? This is something I NEED to witness live. Also, what's up with the LED dance troupe getup? Vietnam's Got Talent judgment after Japanese-style variety show stunts?

They kept harping on Corinne & Eliza being "snakes", yet would probably do the exact same thing. In fact, they've done plenty worse in the past. Plus, they were all ready to U-Turn Tyler & Korey themselves, but cleverly encouraged Becca & Floyd to do so when they saw them running up behind them.

This is why the world hate wretchael, damn u silicon sister
why would any right-minded people u-turn team fun, team fun is real strong team, my butt
its so sad but, bye granpa rupert
Well, maybe she's attempting to stop the #Funstoppable.

I mean the last time, they got eliminated because Floyd almost pass out, almost lost their passport and not dominating their season
the strongest teams this season are Afghanimal and Ty-Korey, Colin also so strong, these three are top 3 in leg 1, so team fun is real strong team, my butt
silicon sister u-turn them only because a little spat earlier in japan
wretchel got emotional and think with her implant, if she smart they should u-turn afghan or Ty, or for the shake of humanity, u-turn themself

I think that's all because of the editing of the producers to create drama. I don't think the event earlier in Japan contributed big to why Rachel & Elissa u-turned team fun, I still think that's because they're a strong team. I don't see why you hate them so much. :idgit
