Just watched it on CTV.ca.

The tasks were kinda meh as far as season premieres go, but I love this cast. Definitely some strong FF teams this year :D

Martina, wow, the energy that's in her.

5 teams rushing for last place, a good old intense footrace.

The title quote was by Courtney of Adam & Courtney, by the way.

Episode 1

Always love seeing TARC return every summer, so I'm glad it's back, and it's absolutely crazy that between TAR 30 & TARC 6 we get almost identical races to avoid elimination in the first leg.

Why did CTV put their logo on the clues?

Martina being a ball of energy  :funny:
Leanne insisting on naming the beaver.  :funny:
Mar & the crab  :funny:
Dylan: She's on her way back down. Phil: NO, she's going up.  :funny:
Crab pinching the clue giver.  :funny:
Find it hilarious that Jon knows more about Mellisa than her partner.

Beaver: I was afraid that this task would be a TAR 28 LA Roadblock redux. Thankfully, this task wasn't the sole determining factor of leg placement.
Climb: They kinda breezed through this task outside of Martina.
Crab: Crabs gave a few funny moments of comedy but was an okay task.

In terms of the teams, they are all fine with Martina & Phil and Leanne & Mar as my standouts and my most meh team being Todd & Anna. There's no team I dislike unlike last year (never say the G word again).

Overall, it was a decent premiere.

3/5

You forgot Mar told Leanne at the pitstop " You better start liking sushi" :funny:

Dylan's "Damn, you brought up the whole family"  :funny:

I have a family friend just like Martina who is so high energy. AMA  :funny:

Leanne & Mar said in their intro that they hoped "other teams would underestimate them" (ah, the staple quote of so many US FF teams of the past). Guess that plan just went out the window, didn't it? ;)

I think they're gonna be strong.

Was re-watching  the episode last night. Really do appreciate the simplicity of its designs, yet it was a very physically demanding one, racers would be tired midway through it, also it was a self-driving leg.
I think I said in back on TUE, but the scenery for the 1st RB was freaking gorgeous.
Very interesting that we had two FF teams leading the pack most of the leg, and two MM teams were ones trailing behind in the end.

Highlights:
---
Happy (Adam Sandler in disguise?) : Who's your daddy? Who's your daddy? W h o ' s y o u r d a d d y b a b y
Chewy : you ARE... the father!
---
The crab handler got bit by the crab when giving Taylor & Courtney the clue
---
That photo finish at the pit-stop! A 5 way race to the pitstop was basically half the cast. I didn't mind C & H as such but thank god that Martina & Phil booked 7th place !
---
Todd & Anna unexpectedly tipping over at that crab task, I wonder whether their crab fell in with them!
---
Was Phil speaking in Korean? I mean the roadblock really broke her, so to encourage her he kept chanting, "You've gotta find a way Noona,"
---
The intro!!! Sent shivers across my body. I love the classic TAR theme with that post TAR23 Intro background, and all teams were so wonderfully edited into the intro!
---
Melissa and Jon being teammates! Wouldn't it be awkward to have to eliminate your teammate from the race?
---
Overall, it was a 7.5/10 for me. Idk, something about the fact that Nancy & Mel being mere acquaintances bothered me. Overall they were a pretty good team, so I didn't mind them at all. They could've made the leg a bit more difficult to restore TARCan to its former difficulty/glory of season(s) 2-4, but all the tasks were awesome anyways.
Absolutely loving this cast! It's so culturally diverse and has the ideal ratio of teams for me : 3 FF : 3 MM : 4 MF! I'm so glad I drove away from spoilers after Leg 3/4. Definitely a far better premiere leg as compared to TARC 5.

I saw Phil address that on Twitter yesterday :)

"Nuna", it's a Korean word for "older sister". He said he's called her that all her life.

Just watched the first episode!!

The challenges were okay! Beautiful scenery for sure.
Like most teams, my fave are Phil/Martina and Leanne/Mar
Nancy and Melissa are a bit awkward with the whole I don't really know her thing.. Jon knows Melissa more lol
I wished they added a starting line task, like maybe have the backpacks there but that they must find their clue somewhere in the castle. Or a task in Victoria...

I wondered, the sea to sky Gondola sign-up sheet, did they have to sign on the first day, but actually went in the next morning? The guys who missed the ferry said they had to wait TWO hours for the next one. They really edited like it all happened in one day. I remember teams were spotted at the ferry around 4-5 pm...

"Nuna", it's a Korean word for "older sister". He said he's called her that all her life.

When written phonetically, it's more commonly written as Noona.
I remember discussing something related to this on twitter because after a rewatch of the Black Panther movie.

Because I am lazy, let me just transcribe (as in copy and paste) my tweets back from March. Don't worry there are not spoilers for the movie, but it mention cultural things that may interest for some of you:

Quote
I like how Shuri just call T'Challa, "Brother". Wonder if that is something that are also part of many African languages. As that not so common on most western languages I am aware of, having these specific expressions to refer to siblings.
You know, how Chinese has Gege哥哥(Older Brother), JieJie姊姊(Older Sister), Didi弟弟(Younger Brother), MeiMei妹妹(Younger Sister) - yes Firefly fans, you know this last one.
On the same line Japanese has Oniisan, Onechan for older siblings and Korean has Hyung, Noona. That's so common in eastern Asian languages. I've seen how local dubs dealt with that in the past, and hate when subs overlook it.
Yet, is understandable why subs do that, for speed. But considering how they had Shuri call T'Challa, "Brother" all the time, it really makes me curious if that is something African languages from which Wakadan was based from share with east Asian ones.

It actually varies.
Oppa is when a woman addresses a man who is elder to her [literally it means older brother, but I've seen Oppa being used to describe celebrities who look good].
Hyung is when a man addresses a man who is elder to him
Noona (explained above)
and Unnie is for women who address women elder to them

Good close ending, when they showed some clues on the floor I was wondering if that was another twist.  Some place changes during a couple of the tasks as well and self navigation played a role too.  The missed ferry didn't prefigure a boring leg like I feared.

Hopefully we get some mental challenges mixed in soon.  On the jumping task I've a feeling they were slightly closer on the second attempt.  It would've been cool if they had hidden their bags more around the castle area so they had to separate there.

Not sure about the cast at this point.  I'm hoping all the 'amazing heroes' stuff is mostly done with now, and people can just be racers racing for themselves than talking about representing.

I don't mind the acquaintances aspect, though they were very upfront about the host knowing one of the team very well (which could be a controversial aspect of selection).

I'm not sure where to put this news, but this seems like the best place. The Sea to Sky Gondola used in TARCAN 6 episode 1 has been vandalized. Someone apparently cut the gondola cable early yesterday morning and now most of the gondola cars are on the ground. As it was the middle of the night, no one was on the gondola and no one was hurt. Here's a link to a news story with several pictures of gondola cars on the ground.

Holy...crap. If I wasn't scared to ride one of those things before, I'm downright terrified now.
