Do we think about maybe the same time as last year?

Personally, I think it will air around March, but really, it could be a summer show with BB20?

I wonder if it will depend on what they do with Celebrity BB.  Will that be multiple nights per week like the summer edition?

I believe editing is in progress so perhaps they can get us ready sooner than March/April.

I know there was already one cancellation from the fall schedule but I believe that was filled already, and probably too soon with editing to be done...

I honestly don't know about BB yet, I would think the format will be much the same. As far as I know there is no date announced except early 2018.
Whether this is up against the Olympics or not is still TBD.

The Olympics will be airing Feb 8-27. If BB is aired then I would hope we would NOT be...although normally a slot right after could be good for us, so ???

CBS has 4 hour-long shows left on their shelf, and 1 sitcom. Obviously the sitcom will slot into the Monday or Thursday lineup at some point this season.

The 4 hourlongs are TAR30, Elementary, Code black, and a new drama. There really aren't a lot of timeslots available on the schedule. Their new shows SWAT and Seal team both got full season orders. That leaves their other new show Wisdom of the crowd (Sundays at 8 ), as the only likely cancellation. So really the only slots I see available are Sundays at 8, and Wednesdays at 8 between Survivor seasons. I'm guessing we see something similar to last year, where we get scheduled for April.

Wisdom of the crowd has 13 episodes and was not picked up for a full season yet. If it doesn't get picked up for a full season and it gets cancelled, it will be done by the end of December/early January depending on Holiday schedules. They could easily put TAR there and have it run. Also, Survivor ends in a few weeks. They usually put Undercover Boss in that slot for a few weeks. They could have TAR go in that slot in the middle of January and have it run until Survivor starts again. Or Celebrity Big Brother starts end of January/early February so they could put it after those episodes. It may not work to put it after BB Celebrity because that will only be on 4-6 weeks.

CBS usually releases its midseason schedule the last week of November towards the end of the week. Hopefully we will find out then

MacGyver might finish its season run early again and CBS slips TAR into that slot like the original plan this year.

I really think January/February is most likely for TAR premiere in midseason along with Celebrity Big Brother.

What timeslot are you putting it in? There are very few openings on the schedule until near the end of the season. Can't bank on Sundays at 8 since CBS has 4 other shows waiting as well. And Wednesdays between Survivor cycles would be very unlikely. More likely they would try to launch something new there as they did with last year's terrible 'Hunted.'

Hunted had potential but was the single most fake 'reality show' I have EVER seen. There may have been some shell of what actually happened buried somewhere in there, but it was obnoxious the number of rules that were not shared with the viewers, the amount of reenactments and fake acting by the hunters, and the phony reveals when it's actually production just telling the hunters where the team is.

I suspect CBS wants to avoid the Winter Olympics period, but TAR did run through those periods in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014, so there’s nothing stopping that.
CBS probably wants to have TAR avoid the CBS portion of March Madness (as Turner has the later rounds now) but that at most would be the first week.
My guess is that Celebrity B.B., which is intended to be much shorter won’t run for more than a month, and probably on against the Olympics.
My best guess is March with one or two back-to-back episodes so it ends during the May sweeps. But for the Winter Olympics, IMHO, that would have been February.
And did Undercover Boss even get a new episode order this year? Not sure that they did, there were so few of their episodes last season, it may be on a time out.

What is the situation with the Piven allegations? Has CBS filmed a full season of Wisdom of the Crowd or might they use TAR as a replacement?

This is the only thing I can find:
Quote
“We are aware of the media reports and are looking into the matter,” a CBS spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline on Tuesday.

The network offered no additional details of what form or function any investigation was taking. Wisdom of the Crowd, from CBS TV Studios, is still be in production on its original 13-episode order.

It would be surprising if Wisdom of the crowd is on much longer. They've already extended their other new series, which is ominous. Combine that with rather poor ratings, plus the Piven stuff, and it's likely CBS is ready to move on. That opens a spot for something....just not necessarily the race.

As for the winter Olympics, while no network 'wants' to face them, the fact remains that it's still February sweeps, so networks will aim for their best possible results. That's probably not TAR at this point in its life, but it's possible.

I can see CBS moving another drama into that slot for mid season into May, and TAR 30 airing in the vacated slot.
I think CBS wants to avoid the awkward last minute scheduling that occurred with TAR 29. It didn’t do anyone any favors and did confuse fans who didn’t know about the shift to an earlier start date on short notice.

Hunted was good, but definitely paled in comparison to the UK original.

That said, hoping for the best! Less than 3 days till we hopefully get good news!  :conf:

Personally banking on us airing in the vacated Survivor slot and coexisting with Big Brother ala TAR5.

I could see us getting that Sunday at 8 spot, since it's been somewhat of a black hole since TAR vacated it. CBS still has a new drama, Instinct, which could be in play, but the other shows on their bench are Elementary and Code black, both of which have always been 10 pm shows, so they are hopefully non-factors.

If the celebrity big brother is in play though, that could be a problem. I could definitely see that getting Sundays at 8 along with Wednesdays at 8 until Survivor comes back. That's actually what I'm leaning toward now.

I do think we will find out soon. I believe it was close to this time last year we were given the April premiere date, which eventually moved up to March in the eleventh hour.

THE AMAZING RACE PREMIERES FRIDAY, APRIL 21!
http://deadline.com/2016/11/cbs-midseason-schedule-ransom-saturday-training-day-doubt-premiere-dates-1201862064/

Looks like MacGyver will finish its run in April and TAR will just slip right back into its slot into the Summer.
It will be a 2-hour premiere on the 21st and settle into its regular 8pm timeslot the following week.

Sundays have become a problem for the broadcast nets as the pay cable channels, and some other cable channels as well, are airing the shows on Sunday nights rather than Saturday nights. Starz made this switch in the spring, Showtime has as well, and HBO has done it for a while.

I was just throwing Sundays at 8 out there because it's literally the only slot available, besides Wednesdays between survivors. Everything else on CBS's sked has a full season order, which means we're probably going to be given another April or so premiere date, after the full season of something.  Sunday's ratings are down for most everyone, but CBS in particular is feeling the burn this year.

Edit: interesting news just came out
 CBS has just expanded the order for Elementary this season, going from 13 to 21 episodes. That means Elemantary is likely to be back on the schedule very soon, perhaps in place of Wisdom of the crowd.

In addition, The Amazing Race will airs its 30th season (featuring Big Brother 19 couple Cody and Jessica) at the start of 2018 with a very condensed schedule. The race begins Wednesday, January 3 at 8/7c, but moves to 9/8c when CBB begins in February. TAR will also include many two-hour episodes, leading to a season finale on Wednesday, February 21 at 9/8c.

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/big-brother/cbs-sets-premiere-dates-for-ce-67005.aspx

Survivor returns Feb 28th at 8. Our time slot has not been announced, could be 9. And of course could change along the way.

Per Deadline:
Quote
In addition to limited-run celebrity Big Brother, with Julie Chen on board to host. CBS also will air a new installment of its popular reality completion  series The Amazing Race against the Olympics, which debuts Jan. 3.

Color me stoked! Ratings for tv are higher in January and February than they are in the spring. Plus airing in February sweeps, in a prime time slot. This is clearly NOT burnoff by CBS, despite all the 2 hour episodes. Burnoff would have been slotting a different show in on Wednesdays and airing the race on Saturdays or something.

Get pumped! So 4 of the 8 weeks are 2 hours. A few weeks are running against the Olympics, but this is still very positive news.

Yes just corrected. Deadline's initial post was...confusing.

Still 11 EPS if we air 1 hour weekly between Jan 3 and the 2 hr Jan 24 . Skipping Jan 31? Perhaps we still have not seen a full schedule??

This brings up the question:

Were they originally planning to use us again later in spring? If so, will we see another season film asap? ???

We know they were VERY glad they had 29 to fill in a BIG hole in the schedule last time. Would love us to be ready!

We know they were VERY glad they had 29 to fill in a BIG hole in the schedule last time. Would love us to be ready!

There's also a 2 hour ep in January,  the 24th I believe.

Guys, I'm as pessimistic a fan as any. This is NOT a bad thing. Ratings are much higher in January than they are in April and May. Yes the last 4 episodes are against the Olympics, but so is big brother. This is NOT CBS throwing in the towel. This is GOOD news!

No that fits with the Survivor return. Again, we fit their needs.

I'm thrilled except for us being up against the Olympics. But we'll get great DVR #'s!!

I love the Olympics!

So...I cannot find a full listing yet. Other than the premiere date CBS has not yet posted.

Here's what looks like it could be right. Based on Buddy TV's quote that it moves to TWO hours Feb 7.

Deadline states Jan 24th is 2 hours. If that is correct then if we have a 11 episode series we need to skip a week somewhere. If we get 12 episodes, then whoohoo!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ONE HOUR:
Jan 3  (Wed) 8-9PM PREMIERE
Jan 10 (Wed) 8-9 PM
Jan 17 (Wed) 8-9 PM
TWO HOUR:
Jan 24 (Wed) 8-10 PM
Jan 31 ?skipped or no?
Feb 7   (Wed) 9-11 PM
Feb 14 (Wed) 9-11 PM
Feb 21  (Wed) 9-11 PM FINALE
There is still an episode on the 31st. Deadline just didn't list it since it was a normal Wednesday schedule.
For those of us who normally watch both, it does present a conundrum. How is CBS going to handle streaming for delayed viewship.
And by the way, only two Wednesday’s are affected by the Olympics. To me, CBS is doing exactly what I’d thought they would do by going to a weeknight and not let the season sit on the shelf like 29 did. They’re trying two, nay three, things at the same time. Returning TAR to a weeknight, pairing it with Big Brother, and testing each of the three hours of prime time, and testing a between Survivor seasons model.
Just checked the Futon Critic showpage fot TAR.
1/31 is one hour. So January 3, 10, 17, and 31 are 1 hour; January 24, February 7, 14, and 21 are 2 hours. Start times are 8 pm ET for the 5 dates in January and 9 pm ET for the 3 dates in February.
(The only thing that could create a problem is the President’s State of the Union address if Congress sets it on a Wednesday night. It’s possible CBS has already built that in since those normally don’t start until 9 pm ET, and that could partially explain why we have such a nonlinear schedule for this season.)
Why would there only be 11 episodes? Isn't it still 12 Legs? The schedule fits for a February 21 finale.
Also, President Trump's State of the Union address is Tuesday, January 30 so no affect on TAR.
No, I didn't say there would be 11 episodes. I was asking why anyone would think there would only be 11 episodes, referring to georgia saying there would be 11, skipping January 31st.
Damn, I have mixed feelings. :lol:
I'm really excited to see TAR back on air so soon, but I'm not a fan of the double episodes. I mean, it's cool that I'll get to see more episodes quicker :lol: But I don't know if this is a good sign.
I hope that they're just testing out things, like someone here said. The fact that it's airing at a new time IS good.
I think the new timeslot will bode well for TAR. Usually there is not much to compete with during the winter season in terms of other shows and really the only thing that may draw away viewership is the Olympics. I think an 8pm timeslot works well as a family friendly show to start and I don't think pushing it back will have too much of an influence since Big Brother, another reality TV show, is pushing it back. I also think putting it in Survivor's timeslot to start with will also help.
I don't really see the double episodes as a way of burning off TAR, I just see this as an experimentation as a winter/midseason show, but when the midseason is 8 weeks, you have to find 4 extra hours somewhere.
Hunted had the same time slot and decreased in viewers right through the finale....
Hopefully TAR doesn't suffer the same fate.
Hunted deserved the declining numbers over the course of its run. Nice premise, but a highly flawed and poor execution of the concept. Not really a basis for comparison.
I'm pretty sure the execution of Hunted as a concept or its quality has nothing to do with its numbers lol.
Besides the usual ABC comedies, we also get to go against Fox's revival of the X-Files. So there will be competition. But it's still better than being stuck in a 10 pm slot.
I'm a little bit confused with the length of the season. This seems to be the shortest run of all US Amazing Race's. Can someone walk me through, is this good for the ratings? Why are there an abundance of double episodes? I know nothing how the US Ratings go. I just want TAR to go back to the glory days. 8pm slot though is good for me, I think.
It is a full season with 12 legs. Just in a much shorter time interval.
They are just putting it in as Olympic counter programming I think.
We filled a need in the schedule for 29. They had nothing else to place there and we rocked it. They need something against the Olympics and something to go with BB.
Since there is a BB team on 30 going in a scheduling match up with BB could be very good for TAR ratings and CBS ratings if we can retain the BB peeps.
It is actually brilliant marketing.
AND.... CBS likes to have a TAR season in the can ready to go. :tup:
Could this mean a very early NEW season filming?? Very possibly!
I think it is a WIN-WIN all around.  :conf:
I agree. I don't really see the downside. A Wednesday primetime slot? That's usually for  Survivor, a similar show, should be great! Much better than stupid Sundays.
Also, there is nothing on in January. It's exciting to get something new to watch, especially a great show like TAR. And yes it pairs with BB and going against the Olympics (which I personally am very sad about because I like to devote all my time to it).
Overall it seems good news and I'm SO EXCITED we get to see it so soon!
Word.
Trying to figure out the mindset these days of the CBS honchos aside from Les Moonves is hard. The execs that helped get TAR on the air and keep it going are no longer there. So that helps explain some of the scheduling mindset.
