And we are on the air!

Previously on TAR, six teams traveled from Venice, Italy to Arachova and Athens, Greece where Team fun and Liz & Mike got lost, and then U-Turned! at the Detour, some teams met new friends while others felt betrayed. Tara used her military experience at the Roadblock and clinched a win for mom & dad. Meanwhile, Liz & Mike fell to last.

Five teams are left, who will be eliminated next?

We return with a moment of silence for Scott before he takes the plunge. Brooke motivates him to jump... and he jumps!!!

"That was horrible. I will never do that again." London was proud of Scott for conquering his fear and Logan then takes the dive. Becca follows him.

Hanoi, Vietnam is beautiful!

Everyone running for taxis and the humidity is getting to everyone, especially Tara & Joey who only got 4 hrs of sleep. Scooters and traffic everywhere! Adrenaline rush of music to the statue.

Becca & Floyd get there first.

Teams must search for their next clue among the fan dancers.

ROUTE INFO: Make your way to the Quan Su Buddhist Temple for their next clue.

Brooke & Scott find the hidden clue, and told LoLo that the clue is on a person instead of the Paper fan. Tara & Joey figure out it is on a fan and are on their way.

Bec & Floyd arrive at the temple.
DETOUR: Bamboo Climb or Window Design
In BC, teams must pick up a marked ladder and make their way to a provided apartment building to pick up an elevated birdcage. Then, they must return the birdcage and ladder to the Starting point to receive ther next clue.
In WD, teams must pick up 3 mannequins and arrange a storefront display based on a live reference perfectly to receive their next clue.

Brooke & Scott fight about the ladders while Tara & Joey bypass them with concern for them.
Becca & Floyd arrive at the apartment and are stuck between the walls of a spiraling staircase.
Tara & Joey calmly react to the limited ladders and go to the mannequins while Brooke complains about the weight of all the mannequins. "I can't!" She wants some to wrap the molded limbs in a scarf to not break any. Meanwhile, Mom & dad arrive and forget to pick up their 3rd manny.

"I broke up with her, and she took it kind of hard." Lol "Carry her gently" says Tara.

Tara: "Give this to me!"

Mannequins all falling apart and Tara received the death stare by a Hanoi local after accidentally hitting her on the side with the hefty mannequin pieces. LoLo still figuring out the spiral staircase.

Brooke complaining and yelling and screaming at Scott. Her back hurts really bad and cries for mercy. She continues to become Flo 2.0 in Vietnam with her "I can't" attitude returning worse than ever. So annoying...

Team Fun deliver the cage and ladder back followed by The Boys! Woohoo!

And we return with the Odd Couple still on the streets arguing. "I don't know how to do this!"
London & Logan are moving along nicely and are getting the birdcage! They are stunting right now.

Meanwhile, Fun and Boys are having a taxi battle to the Pit Stop! "worst to first/Pit Stop Phil!"
And..... Becca & Floyd arrive 1st!!!! :conf: :conf: :conf: As the winners of this leg, they won a trip for two sponsored by Travelocity to the Galápagos Islands!

Matt & Redmond are second and receive hugs from Funstoppable. "Unboylievable."

And we return to Brooke on her damn period! Tara & Joey say they've become  ridiculous while they are setting up the display. Scott used to Ben a retail manager and has experience dressing storefront display mannequins. Tara & Joey are declined the approval and realize they forgot the other mannequin. They are starting to freak out and quickly running back.

"Sorry Joey, we are done."

Meanwhile, LoLo get their next clue from the birdcages.

ROUTE INFO: Travel to Dan Thai Vi to get their next clue. (can someone provide the part after the hyphen??)

Tara & Joey doing the Speed Bump with much progress while London & Logan arrive at Roadblock. Floyd doesn't have all the baskets and must return back to pick up all the baskets he dropped. Wowziez.

Tara & Joey finish and on their way to the RB.

Scott delivers all the baskets and receive the clue!

Matt & Redmond are back from the foot rowing task.
ROUTE INFO: Travel to Hang Mua peak, up 500 steps, to the pit Stop!

Brooke & Scott finish and on their way to the board.

And now everyone has "Brooke mentality" with I can't attitudes. London hollers for Floyd to help her up from the ground with all the baskets stacked against her. Floyd is also struggling to get to her and is also exhausted, commercialsx

We return with Floyd being called for London's rescue. They balance each other with much panic. A couple locals help them out.

Tara & Joey are arriving at the RB location. Joey takes over the task.

Matt & Redmond on a taxi to the Pit Stop. Floyd or London loses another basket. Scott & Brooke arguing once again at the foot rowing task once they arrive because they are drifting the wrong direction.

Floyd must go back again, noooooo...., but London earns her approval. Joey follows with all his baskets. Floyd super exhausted and can't continue without a little bit of rest. London is crying for their struggles.

Joey passes London because her bike snapped at some point. And Tara & Joey pick themselves back up to 3rd! Hoorah!

Matt & Redmond are team number one and win a trip to Costa Rica! :conf: :conf: :conf:

Fun Meter is down low as Becca worries and questions the reasons why he is taking so long while every team finished in one attempt. Floyd is finally approved and races back to Becca!

Meanwhile, London and Logan pick up their offerings while Scott & Brooke finishes the rowing in 2nd. "to the Pit Stop!"

Tara tells Joey to shut up at the rowing task as they just begin.

Floyd tries his hardest to bike trailing Becca, but collapses and Becca rushes urgently to him! o-m-g

We return with Becca assisting Floyd as he is physically exhausted from his taxing Roadblock performance. Medic is called and notices dizziness and Becca says he looks very fatigued, getting him to take deep breaths.

Tara and Joey fighting about the technique while Logan and London motivate each other despite his tallness.

"Giving birth again. It's twins this time!" :funny: Scott needs to be a traveling comedian for a while!
Brooke complains she can't bike anymore. They like the gnome's hat - and are caught off guard by the immense height of the peak Pit Stop. "it's torture!" sighs Brooke. They arrive 2nd it's Scott confidently declaring it too. Phil says Brooke became Scott today. :holdbreath:

Becca worried for Floyd and has never seen anyone in dreary condition before.

Meanwhile, Tara & joey arrive at the Pit Stop in 3rd and London & logan follow behind in 4th.

:( Floyd figures he can't keep going in his fatigued condition. Becca getting emotional over his health and realizes their unsurmountable demise from the race.

Phil comes to them and sadly eliminates them from the race.  :gaah:

Becca & Floyd sign out with a cute rap.

I will say this is one of the VERY few instances I'm okay with a leg having ONLY a RB mainly since I'm sure if there were a Detour as well someone would be having a medical emergency :(

Despite the outcome of the tenth leg, I feel like this was a beautifully edited episode with the perfect amount of drama from more than a couple teams, surprises, and tough tasks that certainly proved Robbie difficult. One of the greatest legs in a while!

Ninth leg was also dramatic and tricky. Even though Brooke & Scott's arguments surpassed the excess, we also got drama from Tara & Joey's side with their error and some bickery moments. Also, the Detour was well planned with attention to detail versus maneuvering a long item in an encased space.

I get the impression that it's a double RB leg, too, which is mildly annoying. The lack of Detour fit well with this Leg in Ninh Binh, but I'd hope that the penultimate Leg would involve the increased complexity that Detours provide. And especially since most modern finales don't include Detours, it would feel a bit off to not have a Detour after Leg 9.

I was very impressed with Floyd.  That kid just kept pushing until he couldn't push any more and he did it without complaining.  It's too bad that team fun had to go when he tried so hard.  I'm a bit annoyed with production on this leg.  How did they not think that someone could have a medical issue with such a strenuous task?  They should have at least allowed him to leave what he had and go back to pick up what he dropped.  IMO this was a preventable problem and no team should be eliminated because of a preventable problem.

Since Vietnam is within the tropical region, and filming took place around June or July, it was really hot at that time and place. Floyd not being allowed to take the load off is part of task rules, but the heat was the cause of his fatigue, not likely the heavy balancing load, although it's a factor.

Short comment: Great double episode! I love how we got back-to-back episodes in Vietnam and back-to-back legs of switchbacks. :hrt: Leg design wasn't the best, but task difficulty proved enough or too much on both legs. Sad to see Team Fun go. :( At least they did their best and remained positive all the way, never mentally giving up any one nanobit.

Long comment: Too sleepy to work on it now, but it will come. I have an outline this time, so writing it can be less difficult.

Among the switchbacks we have so far, I find the bike roadblock in Leg 10 the most successful one yet. The TAR15 haybales task wasn't as 'bad' as the one in TAR6. My Ox is Broken V.2.0. felt lacking. Cheese rolling in Switzerland had a different feel. (Insert many other switchbacks that were either lacking or simply satisfying.) This one in Vietnam? Still so powerful on its 2nd time in the franchise.

Just watch these episodes and...

Leg 9:
- yay to Hanoi vietnam
- before leaving to Vietnam, there's a switchback RB task from season 9 at Corinth Canal...
- ARI was tricky but teams didn't have too much trouble
- the detour was incredibly mad... facing the traffic mess in hanoi street always entertain me... both task were equally hard and devastating in its own way...
- pitstop at the park... if you're in fight avoiding last place, oh boy that traffic ...
- the editing  was fast pace and very intense, especially in last 15 minutes... and i don't expect a heavy argument at pit stop, but oh boy Brooke... it should have been " Brooke vs people of Hanoi" , she never hestitate to yell in the crowded residence... including the taxi driver

Verdict : this leg was madly great... the star of this leg were the detour, the editing, and Brooke  it was intense and entertaiment-packed...

Leg 5:
-going to Ninh Binh with buses
- yes for biking a long the leg... finally  gnomes to guide teams along the leg <33 i had missed you (since 20 ??? idk cmiiw )
- another switchback Rb from s3 ( basket bike frenzy <333) and i still feel the intense and the merciless this task... wow what a big physical demanding task that also need orientation detail, and right balance to kill it off...
- a Ari task, to replace the detour ( it was reasonable since the rb would drain your energy more), so unique yet challenging (but it's kinda like a Rb rather than literal Ari but whatever)
- 500 steps away to pit stop ( wow idk if i ever do that without whining complaining along hiking to pit stop, i'll end up in hospital instead, so another kudos for not adding another task (include detour) in this leg)
- the editing was very good, especially at the Rb... but #Teamfun :(

Verdict : emmy-worthy leg...  very physical demanding leg that tests some team determination... best leg in a while
what might have been

The heat at the time of the filming in Southeast Asia definitely played as the major factor for what happened to Floyd that day. He had to recuperate at the delivery point after the second attempt to cool down. The rule of picking up the missing shrimp baskets with the bike makes sense because the whole objective of the task was to transport them on the bike like local fishmongers do. Otherwise, some teams would have just ditched the bike and just used their hands to carry them all. Not to mention, had they ditched the bike, the heat would have been way worse for every team because the RB performers would have to be exerting more energy to RUN back and forth with numerous deliveries. Simple science: You need more energy to run than to use a machine.

Whoa, a couple of race episode which takes place at places where I have actually have been.

The Hanoi old town is a wonderful, but slightly crazy, place. The park where the Pit Stop was has a big lake where you can rent Swan boats. We did so on our visit so but stood out because all other renters were young couples who were much more interested in each other than paddling around the lake :)

Also Ninh Binh is a spectacular place. The normal visit for tourists is to take a boat tour which starts from the Tam Coc wharf (where the racers picked up and left their bikes). A local girl rows the boat, yes with her feet, along the river to a pond and then back again. That pond is where the racers found their boats. I remember seeing that dragon up on one of the mountains next to the river, but unfortunately we never got to visit it.

Am I wrong or did Matt (or Redmond?) say in Greece that choosing who would do the guard roadblock is determined by the fact that they need to equalise their roadblock count. BUT later stated (watching the other performing the task) that it wasn't necessary so, just his preference not to do this one?

I understand, but I stand by my opinion that production should have taken the heat into consideration when planning out these tasks.  The locals may be more accustomed to doing things in that type of heat.  The racers aren't.  If production didn't anticipate that the heat could be an issue; then, that's a failure on their part.

So, on Scott's podcast (which also has Sara & Logan this week, it's a good listen, I recommend it :tup) he mentions that, in his words, the roadblock count "reset" after the bungee jump where everyone was split 4-4 and that the later roadblocks were open to anyone.

Kind of. It's mostly an issue of semantics BUT

- in 24, I believe no one could do more than 6? by leg 10, and then the final two legs had to end with a split of 2-1.
- in 29, teams had to have a 4-4 split at the end of leg 9, then the RB tally is reset completely (granted I suspect if next leg is a double RB one, they'll force each person to do one).

Ack. I was too busy to write a review ASAP, so I might have forgotten stuff, despite having an outline. I'll still try, but I guess I'll shorten what I have to say for each point. Also, this is unedited, so please excuse any spelling/grammar errors. :-X

Corinth Canal Switchback Roadblock: Switchbacks bring us back to Classic TAR. :hrt:
Detour: I like how the bamboo detour is limited to 3 teams only. It forces some teams to do the other side of the detour. I wonder if the mannequin detour is also limited in slots or not. Bamboo detour is like a puzzle with the ladder transporting part, but it's technically a delivery task too. Mannequin detour is attention to detail task, but also physical with the way it's being transported. I would say detour is somewhat or almost balanced, but I can't tell for sure. They are both of Leg 9 difficulty though.
Bike Switchback Roadblock: I like how we have back to back episodes of roadblock switchbacks. Difficulty shown with Floyd's performance. One of the most successful switchbacks in my opinion.
Speedbump: Challenging enough; F5-worthy speedbump. Also effective speedbump since 2 teams passed Tara & Joey during the speedbump.
ARI: Challenging enough. Something I'd want to try actually. I'm guessing it's a 2nd roadblock, but Redmond couldn't do it if ever it ended up as his roadblock. Still a good task with decent difficulty though.
Pit Stop in Nihn Bihn: A lot of pit stops were high atop a significantly elevated place. This one did not disappoint, from summit view to climbing the mountain.

Matt & Red: They did well on Vietnam 1, but they 'started' later thn Becca & Floyd, who also did just as well. At least they won Vietnam 2. Cool to know that Matt actually has experience with moving furniture. Also:
Phil: "Tell me about this leg."
Redmond: "It's made out of carbon fiber."
Am I the only one thinking that Phil asked this question to expect this kind of answer from Redmond? With the wording, it seems like it was on purpose.

Brooke & Scott: 3 out of 5 roadblocks for Scott so far are heights! :funny: That was so ironic. At the detour, I think Brooke's whining was slowing them down, but they were lucky Tara didn't read the clue properly. Also, I really like Brooke exaggerating: "I'm gonna get murdered, hello!?" when the streets were crazy. It sucks how they lost a footrace to the ladder, then the next and last one was found by LoLo 1st. Moving to the next leg, I really like Scott's patience for Brooke. :funny: While biking, Brooke was lowkey whining, but I guess this one was more natural due to exhaustion. :funny: As Scott said, "Oh my god! You're not giving birth." :funny: Scott did the roadblock well, and it's a good thing he did it or else they'd most likely be done. I don't mind not seeing Brooke whining at the bike roadblock. Scott got the task done for the team. :conf: Pit stop scene (and en route to pit stop) was also funny, with Scott saying "Giving birth again." and with Phil saying to Brooke, "It's like you're Scott, and you're..." "No no no," as Scott interrupts. :funny: At least Brooke becoming Scott for a leg makes their leg better.

Joey & Tara: Tara's misread of the detour clue cost them Vietnam 1, but they also 'started' later, and this leg wasn't really their leg. What I like about Tara & Joey is that they are trying to beat the team they are neck-and-neck with instead of whining. According to Becca, they are strong tricksters, which we can see in some past episodes. Their Vietnam 2 is smooth though. The speedbump just bumped them down by 1 place.

London & Logan: I still like how they are progressing slowly but smoothly. At the same time, they get some sort of bad luck so often, like a car issue in Greece or simply being at the latter half of the pack by default. Logan having a hard time rowing shows an example of tall people problems. I like how they're doing well despite being at the bottom half almost all the time.

Becca & Floyd: #TeamFun :torche I like how they 'started' early and did well in Vietnam 1. They went from worst to 1st and then 1st to worst in one country. :o Floyd taking long at the roadblock and Becca saying she should've done it could mean that this is one of the few cases of wrong roadblock choice being the cause of elimination. Reminds me of Zach & Rachel's case from last season. What I really like about this team is that they never gave up and stayed positive all the way. Their rap exit was awesome, and I believe they are a good candidate for all-stars. :hoot: I hope they'll be back for another race around the world.

Other comments:
~The heat in Vietnam was a big factor in the detour and roadblock in Vietnam. Leg 9 to 10 difficulty extra I'd say.
~We get to see a lowkey arc of Tara & Joey vs Brooke & Scott, and even lowerkey with Tara & Joey and Becca & Floyd.
~Vietnam 2 was really a leg day! There's biking, feet-rowing, mountain (stairs) climbing. That heat was an extra factor in making the leg harder.
~I really like the rural and mountain view of Nihn Bihn :hearts:

Both episodes put together make this thing an amazing double episode as a whole, but I think Episode 10 was the better of the 2.
