Looks like TAR will do an homage to the Festival of St. George in Arachova by recreating the "race of the yeroi", a footrace up the 264 Egarsios steps to the Church of St. George.

Quote
St. George, the dragon-slayer, is the patron saint of Arachova, and the largest church on the top of the highest hill in town is dedicated to him. The festival is kicked off in fine form with the race of the yeroi, the old men of the town who are astonishingly agile as they clamber up the stone steps without so much as a gasp for air.

For sure, Brooke & Scott used the 1st U-turn. Their actions and reactions in the preview tell us enough.

From Tara's voiceover, I think there's a footrace to the W-turn, then Brooke & Scott pushed Tara & Joey away. OR There's also a good chance that they U-turned Tara & Joey too, as Tara's hand made an indescribable movement. ??? Knowing TAR though, I doubt they U-turned Tara & Joey.

From that scene, it seems Tara/Joey touching the box when Brooke was putting on the u-turn, so maybe the arrival order is Brooke/Scott > Tara/Joey > Matt/Redmond?

If Brooke chooses Matt/Redmond, Tara/Joey may not need to u-turn anyone and give the chance to Matt/Redmond (except they are already the last team)

If Brooke chooses Tara/Joey, Tara/Joey would probably u-turn Matt/Redmond or other teams behind then, but Tara's tone of speaking does not sound like her team is being u-turned though

The preview definitely gave a firm idea that RedMatt are U-Turned by ScottBrooke.
But I speculate that LoLo are behind and get the second U-Turn from RedMatt.

They could U-turn Mike & Liz as they're likely to be behind due to self drive. I hope they don't go home but it doesn't look good.

Tara's audio says:" I can't believe they U-Turned *skip* , that's so crappy. "

They did the first U-Turn, so saying that's crappy would most likely refer to them? or a team way behind? Dunno.

The skip could be U-Turned "us", or any team name edited out.

Well, I could easily see them referring to Matt & Redmond.

(All three teams are together at the board and it looks like Tara & Joey get the clue first, then Scott & Brooke, then Redmond & Matt).

Tara also looks like she reached into the pictures.

Tara's voiceover getting cut off too: listen closely.

"I can't believe they U-Turned that's so crappy" (there doesn't seem to be a skip or a cut at all).

I felt that the "crappy" situation was that a team right behind Scott & Brooke was U-Turned (Kynt & Vyxsin style), but because Tara & Joey seem to be rather chill in the moment gamer snapshot, it must be RedMatt getting U-Turned.

I'm not so sure Tara & Joey got to the board before Scott & Brooke though.

Or you could be right Peach, and it's a team already way behind. But RedMatt's reaction really seemed frustrated to me.

Anyway, by the "firm idea", I meant that the editing is misleading us to believe TarJoe were U-turned, hence Tara's words. And nothing is shown (heard) from RedMatt, which further fulfils the objective of misleading. This is just my idea of how it was edited though.

Certainly possible, but what makes you think so?

They could have also UTurned Brooke and that's why she is hurriedly adding a pic... Anything basically is possible!

fwiw (I'm on my phone so I can't cap this)

a) Scott & Brooke are at the stadium at the same time Redmond trips over his bag. When this happens and what kind of task this is idk but that's a thing :)

b) Also the donkey task is a Detour - Tara & Joey and Scott & Brooke attempt this.

It seems to me that Tara & Joey are WTurned. And maybe they arrived at the Uturn board just to Uturn another team to save themselves.

maybe i said not very clearly, i mean except IF they are already the last team. of course i have no info whether they are last or not and i speculate they won't as usually LoLo and Michael/Liz are last lol

from the u-turn board scene, it looks like Brooke/Scott arrive earlier than the other 2 teams, as they're right in front of the board while the other two want to sneak in instead of leaving

I think the one on the lower-right may be mom/dad. I haven't got the other one yet.
On a different topic, still no closer to the airline in the promo caps (here).

The order makes sense, as I say Brooke/Scott should be in front of the other 2 teams to decide to use the U-turn.

Not sure the motives of mom/dad using it on Team fun, as M/L still got a Speed Bump and then a u-turn, very likely cannot catch up. Why don't leave the choice open for M/L to use?

But to be honest I think all are so strange that even at this stage, no one thinks about u-turning Matt/Redmond? Don't they see they are the biggest threat?

It could possibly be Alitalia because it does look like a plane. In between the seats there is a barrier that doesn't look like something they'd put on a plane so it could possibly be a ferry. I still don't understand why they didn't just fly to Athens.

Tara & Joey's motives make me think this time. ??? Why Becca & Floyd? I'm guessing because Matt & Red was right behind them, and they didn't want to pull a Kynt & Vyxsin? What if Becca & Floyd was ahead of them, and they used it to really put Mike & Liz way behind, or maybe they didn't know Becca & Floyd was ahead or behind? ??? I guess I can only wait and see it myself.

As for Brooke & Scott, I think it's typical of Brooke to need the cushion in case she whines and slows down the team in a certain task later on. It reminds me of Joey & Meghan U-turning Chunk & Wynona because they are the team they can surely beat.

The reason they didn't fly to Athens is because most of the places they visited are not in Athens itself.
In the folloing map you can see that. #1 is Patra where the boat arrived from Bari. #2 is Arachova where the detour took place. That's about halfway to Athens. Then #3 is the Corinth Canal where they did the bungee Jumping (RB?) and # 4 is Athens-pitstop.

There are two things I'm more interested to find out. First how did they get from Venice to Bari? They are a long way from each other and they would need to take either a plane or a long train ride. And why didn't they take the direct boat from Venice to Patra even if takes 24 hours to arrive?
Second what were they doing at the Panathenaic Stadium (where Redmont falls )? Is that a RI before the pitstop and what's the point of that?  Because I refuse to believe that it's the RI before the RB, it would be insane to face the traffic in Athens and then leave for the Corinth Canal only to come back for the pitstop.

As for Brooke & Scott, I think it's typical of Brooke to need the cushion in case she whines and slows down the team in a certain task later on.

:res:

You all give Brooke so little credit she PASSED two teams just last leg on her own efforts after being in last place for quite some time due to the watertaxi??????

The order makes sense, as I say Brooke/Scott should be in front of the other 2 teams to decide to use the U-turn.

Not sure the motives of mom/dad using it on Team fun, as M/L still got a Speed Bump and then a u-turn, very likely cannot catch up. Why don't leave the choice open for M/L to use?

But to be honest I think all are so strange that even at this stage, no one thinks about u-turning Matt/Redmond? Don't they see they are the biggest threat?

Well, Matt & Redmond are the ringleaders of the clique.

Is this the first time the previews have openly spoiled a U-Turn?  :funny:

True enough she did well last leg, but you'll never know it could be a just-in-case kind of thing since she might not be confident about some tasks later in the leg. I'm pretty sure she didn't expect whatever happened with the ladle roadblock.

Yes, I think it makes sense for her to use U-turn anyway. They are one of the weak teams in this group and in fact they should use U-turn this leg on whatever team they can use on, and using on M/L makes sense as they got a Speed Bump to perform as well.

It seems this coming leg design is good and requires lots of driving, which is good as even though being U-turned does not mean no way to catch up, sadly production does not usually put U-turn into appropriate legs.

The 3rd pre-detour W-turn this season annoys me already despite the episode not yet airing. I hope this does not become a permanent thing for future seasons.

I did not expect TeamFun to be U-Turned!
I wonder if TarJoe simply burned the second slot (unlikely from my point of view), or were they trying to actually get Becca & Floyd out.

And now I'm extremely puzzled by Tara saying "that was so crappy" regarding the U-Turn in the end-of-episode preview.

When a U-turn is placed after the detour, teams have the motivation to finish the task faster in order to get to the U-turn earlier. That way, getting to the U-turn earlier is earned, by effort, not by cab luck.

When a U-turn is placed before the detour, teams can just race for it by cab or by getting there faster by whatever means, thus it is luck-based. When a U-turn is placed after a roadblock, sure it still counts as an earned to effort to get there earlier, but the way Leg 6 did it with the departure times of teams being 5 minutes apart was part of bad design. The worst position for a U-turn is on the start of the leg before any tasks, which was the case in Leg 3's U-turn.

I hope that was a good explanation, but I think I could've added some more arguments, which I could not think of at the moment. ???

Although I hated the timed departures in leg 6, those were earned by completing the roadblock faster, so you can't say it was bad design regarding the U-Turn.

And all in all, placing U-Turns before tasks gives the U-Turned teams more motivation (a kick in the ass) to work faster. There are more tasks (i.e. opportunities) to catch up.

I don't think this should even be a question.

Having a Detour AFTER the U-Turn defeats the ENTIRE purpose of the U-Turn.

Notable modern TAR moments with the U-Turn include:
-Kisha & Jen nearly surviving but getting eliminated via bathroom break (14)
-Joe & Heidi getting U-Turned to the point of being philiminated on the course (16)
-Caite getting her revenge on Carol & Brandy (16)
-The exciting battle between Chad & Stephanie and Brook & Claire in Bangladesh (17)
-KENT & VYXSIN U-Turning JAIME & CARA to their faces in China (18)
-Our Emmy award winning episode in Tanzania entirely focused on the drama of the U-Turn (20)
-Natalie & Nadiya inventing an entirely new strategy (21)
-The intense battle of TAR22's Germany Night Leg
-"Push me again one more time" "AND WHAT???!?!!!!" (25)

I really doubt any of these moments would have ever happened if the U-Turn was before the Detour. Having a U-Turn AFTER the Detour is truly the only way it should be done - you don't give a person entering into war from the start a tank (U-Turn), you make them work through smaller-scale battles first (Detour).

Yes I also agree, to be frank I think U-turn should only appear in a leg where Detour comes before Roadblock and it is placed after Detour, and they should also make one active route marker to extend that leg, it can also creates more drama and suspense.

I don't know if production is being lazy or what but they rarely do it this way. The worse situation is like in Leg 6 where there is a bunch in the middle and no task after detour with a U-turn.

If there's something I'm going to love about this leg (because a pre-Detour U-Turn will ALWAYS taint a leg take note production), it's the fact that we're getting a Detour, a Roadblock, an Active Route Info, and a Speed Bump all in one leg? This leg should be fun.

And the changing of the guards Detour was hilarious on 25, should be fun to see this Roadblock (especially with BROOKE performing it  <3)!

fwiw Scott is wearing a different shirt as he attempts to bungee jump so I'm inclined to think it's at the start of the next leg.

Somehow i'm loving with the u-turn design in  this leg (not by mean the placement of u-turn) it's very unique and eye-catchy  rather than a plain board with u-turn logo...

And i may be the one who have no prob over u-turn placed before the detour...  It gives team to work extra hard to make it trough after certainly being u-turned.... But yeah it will make it less drama.... But let's see

I'm really excited about this leg, this is a very promising leg with stellar task concept and self driving thing, and maybe a possible switchback in this leg, but execution is more important than a concept, so let's see if we  get a great callback in Greece after almost 20 seasons they don't visit Greece till this

I have no problem with U-turn board before Detour if they have to earn it by another task like ARI or Roadblock and there is one more task after the Detour.
Actually, I hate the U-turn board after Detour with the Pit Stop right after that.

"Good Job, Donkey"-- In this Speed Bump, Michael/Liz must prepare Kokoretsi, a local cuisine of intestines wrapped on a skewer, in order to continue on the race on THE AMAZING RACE

"Good Job, Donkey"--In Detour A, Michael/Liz, London/Logan, Tara/Joey, Becca/FLoyd, Brooke/Scott, Matt/Redmond must deliver two milk cans via a donkey to two cheese stands. Once they exchange the milk for cheese, they must deliver them on foot to a wedding party near Taverna Kaplanis in order to receive the next clue

"Good Job, Donkey"--In Detour B, Michael/Liz, Becca/Floyd must run up the stairs to the Church of Agios Georgios, follow the marked path to the top of a hill, where they will be given two goats which they much deliver to the wedding party at Taverna Kaplanis in order to receive the next clue

"Good Job, Donkey"--In this Road Block, Tara, Becca, Brooke, Matt must perform a changing of the guard with the elite Evzones soldiers in order to receive the next clue

"Good Job, Donkey"--In this Active Route Marker, Floyd/Becca must run a lap around the Panathanaic Stadium in Athens, Greece in order to receive the next clue

Both self driving and non pictured

So they revealed the W-turn on purpose? Or maybe just because they didn't block the W-turn board properly unlike TAR28 Leg 10's. ??? Either way the giveaway makes me think why.

New to the forum, so I have some stupid questions.
What is the difference between W-turn and u-turn?
Also, what is "fwiw" (as in Zack.'s post "fwiw Scott is wearing a different shirt as he attempts to bungee jump so I'm inclined to think it's at the start of the next leg.")? And what does ARI mean? Some people have been talking about "running ARI" or something like that.

Thank you, and I'm sorry for the stupid questions  :knock:

1 - :welcome: to RFF!
2 - W-Turn, if you say it verbally is literally "double U-Turn" as opposed to the single U-Turn in TAR 27 and early seasons.
3 - "fwiw" is for what it's worth because I'm lazy  :funny:
4 - "ARI" is "active route info", which is a task that teams do in addition to the standard roadblock and Detour; the most recent one I can think of is in the Norway leg when teams had to eat the fish.

Hope that helps  :hoot:

Becca and Floyd are one of the strongest teams :)

The order makes sense, as I say Brooke/Scott should be in front of the other 2 teams to decide to use the U-turn.
a
Not sure the motives of mom/dad using it on Team fun, as M/L still got a Speed Bump and then a u-turn, very likely cannot catch up. Why don't leave the choice open for M/L to use?

But to be honest I think all are so strange that even at this stage, no one thinks about u-turning Matt/Redmond? Don't they see they are the biggest threat?

Comment to the above post:  I am super glad that team Matt and Redmond are not U turned.  They already got U turned previously ... give them a break!  Also, although I am a team Matt and Redmond fan, I really don't think they will make the final 3.

As for Brooke & Scott, I think it's typical of Brooke to need the cushion in case she whines and slows down the team in a certain task later on. It reminds me of Joey & Meghan U-turning Chunk & Wynona because they are the team they can surely beat.

Close enough, but not exactly.

Just saying that my guess was close but not quite. :) I often talk to myself in person, so nothing unusual there, hehe.
