1.0 for the 10-10:30 portion
0.9 for the 10:30 portion

4.3 million viewers
And the next highest show was a 0.7

We are doing quite well.
Much better than I anticipated

Little flat from last week, 4.299 million viewers and not bad for all. It's still the most viewed time slot since post-Training Day switch era.

What's nice is that it's EXACTLY the same as last week while almost everything else on TV was DOWN. AND we won the timeslot.  :conf:

3.99 this week. I don't know anything about ratings but I find it low.

Still, we won the timeslot both in viewers and rating.
What we need to wait for is DVR results!

1.383 million ppl watched the premiere in Canada +7 day DVR. This ranked 13th for the week.

The viewership is down from S28's premiere, but the rank is the same.

Live plus 7 numbers were released for the week of the premiere. The 0.9 same day rating increased to a 1.6 rating in Live plus 7.

I would say that is respectable. Nothing too eye-raising, but not bad.

Entertainment Weekly has opinions about the survival chances of 47 shows on various networks that have yet to be renewed. Number 25  in the article is TAR and they have some discouraging words about TAR's ratings:

25. THE AMAZING RACE (CBS)
If this was nearly any other show I would assume CBS would dump it. After 29 cycles, ratings fell to only 4 million viewers and red-lining 0.9 rating. Maybe producers can cut costs by melting down all those golden Emmys?

I don't think things are as bad as they are portraying it and it ignores that TAR gained over 75% in time shifted viewing.

Also, All of the networks have a big dropoff in viewers for the 10 PM shows. Using the graphic that Claude posted below, The Catch on ABC held 59% of the viewers from the 9 PM show on ABC. NBC's Blacklist:Redemption held on to 63.5% of the audience for the NBC 9 PM show. TAR held on to 77% of the viewers of Life in Pieces, the CBS 9:30 PM show. I think that speaks well for TAR.

We will just have to wait and see what happens.

The DVR for the 1st episode has been released, 2.44 million. Adding the 4.30 million who watched the premiere that's a 6.73 million grand total. I've said this before, I know nothing about ratings and I'm not happy with it.

The first thing to know about ratings, oddly enough, is that total viewers are not important. Advertiser rates are set by the adults 18-49 rating, which is the main source of income for the networks, which is why I only report that figure here. Ratings is a fascinating business to analyze!

DVR for Episode Two: 0.9 to a 1.5, 2.46 million, making the new total viewers of the episode as 6.46 million. Pretty steady from the premiere.

Considering our leadin was a rerun of The Great Indoors with 5.60 million at a 1.0, that's actually not so bad.

Now if only CBS would give us a proper shot with a new Big Bang Theory and start us off earlier!  :groan:

Devil's advocate: we were a NEW episode that rated lower than a RERUN of a comedy, and that comedy is getting canceled. I'd say that is not great. But its hard to get the word out when the schedule keeps changing.

I'm still optimistic, but I think we almost need to root for the impending writers strike at this point.

Viewership ratings for 2 combined episodes are 4.441 million in the first hour and 3.812 million in the second hour. So, the first hour was third behind Scandal and the first hour of Blacklist, while the second hour was second behind Blacklist.

I remember one of the analysts at tvbythenumbers once said that how a show performs within its own network is more important than how it does against another network's shows.

So, as with any show, it'll likely boil down to where TAR ranks among CBS shows, and TAR's production budget versus its ratings performance. (TAR29 already seems like one of the cheapest seasons, task-wise, in a while.)

At this point, an aging show like TAR is not going to get many new fans. It just needs to retain old fans.

Devil's advocate: we were a NEW episode that rated lower than a RERUN of a comedy, and that comedy is getting canceled. I'd say that is not great. But its hard to get the word out when the schedule keeps changing.
