"There's no question which of the two came out on top. MacGyver averaged a solid 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 10.9 million viewers."

The premiere of “MacGyver” led CBS to an across-the-board win Friday, scoring the night’s best ratings in both adults 18-49 (1.7) and total viewers (10.89 million). It was the best performance by a Friday scripted series since “Hawaii Five-0” put up a 1.8 in January 2014.

The strong premiere for “MacGyver” helped “Five-0” (1.3) improve by 0.3 on last season’s premiere, while “Blue Bloods” was even with last fall’s debut with a 1.3.

In May, CBS put MacGyver on the fall schedule on a title, wing and a prayer after discarding the pilot made last spring, keeping only star Lucas Till and co-star George Eads. Hawaii Five-0‘s Peter Lenkov was recruited to conceive a new reboot of the 1980s series. In four months, a new pilot episode was written, cast and filmed and a series got up and running for a September premiere. Awareness was great, courtesy of the familiar title, reviews were pretty terrible, but in the end, CBS’ bet on remaking MacGyver for purely financial reasons seems to be paying off, at least in Week 1, with a big opening by Friday standards, 1.7 Live+same day rating in adults 18-49 and 10.9 million viewers at 8 PM last night. A self-starter at 8 PM, it towered over the competition as the highest-rated and most watched program on Friday. It was the most watched Friday scripted premiere since CBS’ Blue Bloods in 2010 (13.02m) and highest rated in 18-49 since NBC’s Dracula in 2013-14 (1.8 ). Overall, MacGyver was the top scripted telecast on Friday night since Hawaii Five-0 in January 2014 (1.8 ) and logged the biggest CBS premiere in the 8 PM hour since 2005 in viewers (Ghost Whisperer) and 2012 in 18-49 (Undercover Boss).

MacGyver, which was up +87% in viewers, +42% in A18-49 from The Amazing Race’s series opener in the slot last fall, gave a boost to Lenkov’s Hawaii Five-0 at 9 PM (1.3 in 18-49, 10.09 million), which was up +30% in the demo and +22% in viewers from last year’s season premiere. Blue Bloods (1.3, 10.4 million) was on par. CBS won every hour of primetime in 18-49 and total viewers.

And of course the year where CBS has the worst Pilots is when they do well :) :) :)

So pissed off right now.

Did TAR reach a 1.7 even with DVR added in last season?

I think if we want an early return for TAR, we should hope for the 8 pm timeslot on Saturdays. There's other back-up shows in CBS' arsenal besides TAR (Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Ransom, Training Day) that fill-out the 10 pm slots on Wednesday & Thursdays if something fails there. Otherwise, the show is not coming back till late December / early January during the holiday. Maybe they might schedule it like they did with S5 Person of Interest recently.

They could do that between the Survivor seasons probably. Squeeze the 12 episodes into the 9 or 10 weeks from December to February, if they really wanted to get it over with.

Probably between into 10 weeks from first week of January (5 or 6) to mid-March (9 or 10). December is always having holiday programs on CBS that air on TV screens.

FRIDAY nights IS what killed our ratings.  :groan:

Friday nights did not kill our ratings. It certainly didn't help, but 24 was a pretty terribly rated season, so the dip season 25 suffered really wasn't that much, factoring in Friday's lesser overall audience. With regular viewer erosion that had been happening for 5 straight seasons, we would have been down to the same levels by season 28 on Sunday.

None of CBS's new shows have stalled out of the gate yet, so we'll have to wait and see. Macguyver was sampled well, but got wretched reviews, so we'll see if the audience agrees with how bad it was and bails (knowing the filth that has survived on CBS for years, not holding my breath). The fact that it wasn't DOA probably means we won't get back in that slot anytime soon though. And contrary to an earlier post, I absolutely could have seen TAR going back there if Macguyver flopped, as it's the exact same scenario that happened with Viva Laughlin back some years ago (and correcting an earlier poster, that was season 12).

I personally think we'll get squeezed in Wednesdays at 8 between survivor seasons, possibly even 2 hours at a time since survivor is back by the end of February.

Friday nights did kill our ratings. TAR24 actually rated much better than CBS's replacements the following year while 25 languished on Fridays.

So, when was our BEST ratings?

It was doing great when it was on Tuesdays (this included 7, the most successful season ever), and then for the long time it was on Sundays...until TAR24.

Ok then. So, we need either a Tuesday night slot or a Sunday night slot. Am I right in saying the ratings have dropped since S24?

Yes, it went from an average 10 million viewers an episode to 5.5-6. People go out on Friday nights.

Tuesdays was way way WAY back lol. Tuesdays are a dead zone now.

We've been sundays since 12 in 2007 and CBS tanked us beginning 25.

I would be happy anywhere (except Fri, Sat or AllAccess.)   :stirtp:

Let's just hope we DO get a slot this fall.  The way things look, 2017 is looking more and more likely.   :helpme

NO!
WE CANNOT HAVE IT AIR IN 2017! We can't wait that long...

I would rather a Fri or Sat night timeslot in 2016, rather than a 2017 slot. (However, I know I will get hate comments, because I know the ratings will be terrible)
