Barring some cataclysmic event at CBS headquarters where they somehow lost all their footage, it will air. Its been going for 28 seasons, CBS knows about how it will perform ratings-wise. Even if every CBS show magically does well and no spot on the schedule is immediately available, it would find the airwaves during next summer at the latest. Nets are always looking for more summer content these days since reruns perform exceptionally poorly in today's age of too many shows to keep up with.

Thinking about it, if CBS did lose S29's footage, they could just refilm it couldn't they? If not, they could use S30 as S29?

If that happens, what would happen to the winners?

And where would you stick it? Big Brother is the network's big summer show.

Which still leaves 4 nights a week.

O for heaven's sake. It isn't lost.

I think this was all hypothetical. We know the footage isn't lost. But let's pretend that it is.

No, they can't just "refilm" this. "Yes, let's send these people around the world again!" Results could (and can) always be different than what it was like the first time around.

EDIT: Meanwhile...

Which still leaves 4 nights a week.

Would CBS bite the bullet and put TAR in a summer spot?

I don't want to get into an argument over this, but I think the point was "unless something stupid happens to the film, it's going to air".

TAR5 aired with BB5 in the Summer, I could easily see CBS dumping TAR with BB again (in the event 29 does well and they premiere 30 in summer and we somehow get something like the 6-7-8 chain next year) considering BB dominates summer.

Yes, I was purely being facetious. It will air. The network has already paid for all the flights, all the crew, all the permits, salaries, etc. They wouldn't do that just to shelve the season. Sure some shows are yanked prematurely for lousy ratings, but this show has been on for 15 years: CBS knows what to expect.

If it were pushed to summer, it could literally air any night of the week. Yes Big Brother airs 3 nights a week, but not for the entire night, and TAR has been paired with BB in the past. I think its very possible that season 30 could air in the summer if 29 airs in Jan/Feb.

That's true. CBS wouldn't allow production to pay for the season again. I know this might be a stupid question but, do we want a summer a timeslot? Have TAR aired in summer before?

Summer is absolutely an option. It has happened twice before Season 4 in 2003 & Season 5 in 2004.

They were decent (9-11M viewers) and helped the show stay on the air. But again, that was more than a decade ago. Folks watch other stuff especially since it's the cable season during summer.

What were the ratings like?

Everything's in reruns, and one of the few shows that has a summer run is on CBS. If I were CBS, I wouldn't put two big shows on at the same time like that.

"There's no question which of the two came out on top. MacGyver averaged a solid 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 10.9 million viewers."

MacGyver's ratings fell in recent weeks in which might danger in cancellation. Whether TAR may probably take the good time slot.

Still higher than S28 ratings...MacGyver still has DVR ratings to come out. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

CBS has given both "Bull" (Tuesdays) and "MacGyver" full season orders.  Also the half-hour "Kevin Can Wait."

For what it's worth Elementary has been dead fractional for its first few weeks being fractional. It's on a Sunday.

It's possible for NCIS to get the later slot and 29 to be slotted in.

I don't think we are going to see 29 this fall regardless of the other shows.  :'(

Exactly. CBS has other shows waiting in the pipeline (such as Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) that will be slotted-in if in the unlikely scenario NCIS: LA or Elementary get pulled out.

I don't think we are going to see 29 this fall regardless of the other shows.  :'(

I know this is going to get a definite "no" answer, but let's at least hear this: Chances of 29 being shelved completely?

EDIT: There have been shows that were filmed in its entirety, but for one reason or another, the series never aired.

Actually, this worries me.  I know for a fact that an entire season of Real Housewives of New Orleans was filmed and it never saw the light of a TV set.
