ABOUT FRANKIE AND AMY

Frankie and Amy are a spunky mother/daughter duo who act more like friends than a typical mother and daughter. After getting pregnant at 15, Frankie was kicked out of her house and forced to raise her daughter on her own. Growing up Amy struggled with the perception of having a young mother, yet despite these challenges Frankie and Amy are now closer than ever.

The typical mother/daughter roles are reversed with this pair. Amy is the mature one who shines with smarts and creative energy, while Frankie is a fiery young soul with a tough-as-nails exterior. Working in a hair salon, they are used to their clients venting, and they have become masters of conversation. And when required, they also know how and when to manipulate the conversation.

These two ladies have been through a lot and are determined to use their spunk, attitude, and bubbly energy to win "The Amazing Race Canada." Frankie would use the prize money to pay off debts, travel, and put toward her son’s college education. Amy would put her share toward a house, travel, and donation to Critter Care where she volunteered.

FUN FACTS
Motto: “Don’t step on people to win, unless they get in your way.”
If you and your teammate were a pop duo, what would your name be? The Elements
Walk on song: “Break my Stride” – Matthew Wilder
Past team they most associate with: Tim and Tim
If you could be an animal what would you be?
Frankie: Mermaid
Amy: Unicorn

More questions from their profile...

Frankie:
What’s in your backpack? - Clothes, makeup, curling iron, hats, compass, calculator, rope, headlamp, swim cap, shades, hand and foot warmers and gloves!

How did you train for the Race? - Boxing, running, weights and I quit smoking

How did you choose your team colour? - Since my hair was already red it was a no-brainer.

Amy:
How did you choose your team colour? - We chose to be unique and true to ourselves. I’m a chill gal and my mom is fiery and bright so fire and ice was born.

What’s one thing you wish you could bring on the Race? - My doggies, my boyfriend, more crystals, more lipstick. GPS.

What's the next big thing in your life you'd like to accomplish? -Winning “The Amazing Race Canada” and travelling the world with my man.

This looks like a fun team. The mother looks younger than her daughter.

  • CONGRATULATIONS TO AMY & MAYA, WINNERS OF TAR25!
Mother/daughter hairstylists?  Does anyone else see parallels to Alla & Oleksandra from Ukraine's version?  (Just watched the first half of that season on YouTube!)

That's what we all thought in the filming sightings, too, she looks almost as young! There's only 15 years between them.

FRANKIE & AMY GASSLER: There could not be a mother-daughter team more like sisters than the literally-colourful, Frankie and Amy, a hair stylist and barber from Aldergrove, B.C.

Frankie, who was a teen mom, admits her daughter is more mature.

“Certain things,” Frankie says. “She’s very good at paying off her credit card debt every month, where I’m not as good. She’s an old soul.”

“Just growing up, having a single mom,” Amy says. “I didn’t want to put more on her plate than she already had, so I did things myself.”

As for following her mom into hair, “I didn’t want her to do it. Just putting that out there,” Frankie says. “She was an honour role student. I was an ‘80s street kid. I got Cs. So I thought maybe she should be a doctor.”

And competitive? Amy was a high school rugby player. “I accidentally broke a girl’s foot and I dislocated her shoulder. By accident,” Amy says.

I could see them pulling a Ryan & Rob and being out of focus but going very far tbh.

They've been a really strong team, everytime they are near the bottom they leap up with tasks!

I always wondered what's the time penalty for say, pushing a team into lava pits in a footrace.  :funny:

We saw a different side to Frankie and Amy in Epi 4, and they got more screentime. I hope they continue to get more

They finally got a decent amount of screentime :D

If they survive just 2 more legs, they'll be the longest-lasting mother/daughter in a looong time. In the US, with the exception of Shelley & Nici, mother/daughter teams unfortunately have the worst track record for parent/child dynamics, being gone by episode 3 since the first season :(

Both Nancy & Emily of US Season 1 and Debbie & Dana of Hamerotz LaMillion 3 (Israel's TAR Version) came in 5th place overall. 5th place is so far the highest placement a Mother/Daughter team has ever achieved. Hopefully Frankie & Amy break the record.

Burned the Express Pass on the easy task of the leg when they should have saved it for the Detour (and Amy did regret it there). Same mistake as Tanner & Josh and Brodie & Kurt :(

But running to the mat with beer cans in hand. How Canadian is that?  :funny:

There is an explanation on the site. They say they don't regret using the pass but regret doing welding which they chose because it looked badass. They even knew they could have breezed through the art task, since Amy does art.  :groan: They blew a lead because they felt secure enough to try something different. Steph and Kristen said (also on the site) there were given only two attempts at flying, so their lead couldn't have been that great. Again, I  :groan:

Maybe if they had gone to the art task first, they could have had more beer.  :funny:

...and running to the mat is almost as Canadian as walking through Whistler with a pitcher of beer.   :wohoo:

I'm thinking the lead was greater due to prep time, safety checks, landing and taking off, etc.
The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move

Robbed queens. One of the best parent/child teams ever, across all versions.
I'd rather walk alone than let them throw dirty confetti. ♥
