From Insider vids:

Teams took a train to Oslo and then were all on the same plane to Milan.

It looks like teams were on a private plane to Bari :spy:

Is all teams take the June 25 ATH - HAN flight since they sighted in Hanoi on morning June 26 rite?

Yes :) (granted they connected somewhere at least once).

On that topic, the show ignored this but from Insider vids flights weren't pre-assigned. Teams were given the address of a travel agency which opened for them late afternoon after the bungee (probably 6/24) and Scott & Brooke argued (:shock) over a flight which landed 75 minutes earlier which might narrow the possibilities.

If we follow this race report I don't think they can spend June 25 on the flight since:

June 22 - Leg 7
June 23 - Teams being released for Leg 8, private plane to Bari, ferry trip from Bari, Italy to Patras, Greece
June 24 - Ferry arrive on Patras, Leg 8 being filmed and Mike & Liz arrive on the mat at night time.

Thus, we can deduct that:

June 25 - Teams being released for Leg 9, and doing Corinth Canal RB
June 26 - Flights from Athens to Hanoi
June 27 - Arrive Hanoi, and the remaining Leg 9.

But then we get Hanoi sightings on June 26, so there must be something missing that cause the mismatch.

Reading back, I think teams DID race on the 27th; there's a lot of weirdness involving time zones and people posting retroactively but notably the Phil sighting was on the 26th (he likely does the standup for the bridge RB hours before teams attempt the task)

The only thing is, short of being oversold to a ridiculous degree, if teams were at a travel agent the evening of tge 25th there's no reason for them to not all just take the Lufthansa flight that Claude posted.

eta-

This is by no means an exact science (why do I have to pay for historical flight stuff now  :'() but as best I can figure, teams likely flew in on

LH1285 ATH FRA 0625 0825
VN0036 FRA HAN 1355 0550 (+1)

while Scott & Brooke debated getting in on

LH1755 ATH MUC 0605 0735
LH2472 MUC LHR 0845 0945
VN0054 LHR HAN 1110 0450 (+1) (which, last year, might have had an arrival time of 0430 or 0435).

Since it apparently takes upwards of 2 hours to deal with customs and 45 minutes to find the fan dancers on a good day, it fits the sighting of L&L around 0900  :bunny

Funnily enough I suspect teams might be blocked from either flying Aeroflot or connecting through Moscow; teams got to the travel agency on the 25th before sunset, which gives teams enough time to take

SU2113 ATH SVO 0035 0420
SU2570 SVO LHR 0550 0800

to connect to the direct flight from London to Hanoi.

I didn't see any clocks at Incheon, but there was an arrivals board (below): I'm guessing they arrived on Korean 480.
Why the guys took the All-Stop instead of the AREX Express is a mystery (this page explains the options). Joey can be heard discussing the taxi/metro differences, but...why not both? Take the express train into Seoul station and a cab from there. I think it was the cab driver, more than the metro choice, that sunk them.

Haven't seen 하노이 (Hangul character for Hanoi) since the pic was too small for me to look for the first column.

Edit: KE480 arrival time was scheduled to arrive ICN on 1840 daily so they didn't catch the appropriate time on the screen.

Judging by the white dots and the 도착 (arrive), I'm assuming that it's at least 17:28 local time (below-left). I captured a (blurry) cap as the camera panned and you can see both possibilities: KE 480 (lower-right) and VN 414, a codeshare with KE 5690 (middle-left).

Seoul sunset time was 1957 local time on June 29/30.

By the time the teams get out from ICN the sky was still not completely dark yet.

Teams might have higher chance taking VN414 flights than KE840 if you include the time they spend on custom clearance.

Hey guys. Years-long lurker finally posting at the behest of Georgia Peach.

I'm a full-time travel writer (for The Points Guy) and "AvGeek", so I was super excited to see the inside of an aircraft on preview for the season finale. I recognized it right away: Korean Airlines' Boeing 777-300ER (77W) business class. The seats are definitely "APEX Suites" - which are only found on Japan Airlines, Korean Air, and Oman Air. But, the route (ICN-ORD it seems), the in-flight entertainment screen and the green headrest definitely make it the Korean Air 77W.

Korean is also installing these seats on the Boeing 787-9 (interestingly, in business AND first class) - but the first of those planes with those seats was delivered in February: https://thepointsguy.com/2017/02/korean-air-787-biz-first-seat/  Also, the 787-9 has electronic-dimming windows - not the window shades showing in the preview.

My question: did the teams get bumped up to business class in-flight? Or, as an OpUp ("operational upgrade" i.e. when they oversell economy and have empty business class seats, airlines will bump pax up to a higher class)? Probably most likely: the producers sprung for business class.

Let me know if you guys have any aviation-related questions! And, if you're interested in reading my work (over 450 articles published): check out my author page here: www.thepointsguy.com/author/jtgenter

:welcome2:   So that makes KE 37 a good candidate? There may have been one other final leg where racers were treated to business, but I can't remember it right now. And there was a small controversy about TAR 16, but that was more about bad (linear) leg design that unfair seating.

^ I think teams did taking July 2 KE37 flight to Chicago. Below it's the July 2 KE37 flight info. (Sorry I don't have screenshot on this.)

Phil and production teams most likely take the same flight on July 1 instead.

Edit: Thanks for Peach saving the day.

In TAR 28, teams travel from China to LAX by business class as well

London stated teams were held at Incheon so the leg could take place at night so maybe they'd did take the Korean Air flight

re: flying to Korea; Scott basically confirmed everyone flew in on VN 414 and were held for ~30 minutes so that they could film the episode at night.

this begs the question why they didn't just take KE 480 and arrive just before sunset but maybe that's me

So... I bit the bullet and paid for a month's subscription at FlightStats. (If you guys have anything to search for let me know!)

Here're my best guesses for the Panama to Sao Paulo flights:

Matt/Redmond, Vanck/Ashton (as described by travel agent)
CM725 from Panama City to Sao Paulo, 1542-0035 (scheduled 1543-0045)

Shamir/Sara, Seth/Olive, Brooke/Scott (as described by travel agent)
CM703 from Panama City to Sao Paulo, 1824-0309 (scheduled 1832-0330)

Liz/Michael
They're seen boarding an Avianca flight in daylight, so it probably wasn't Copa to Lima and a night Avianca flight to Bogota. They arrived before London/Logan, so the best fit is:
AV8375 from Panama City to Bogota, 1738-1917 (scheduled 1750-1920)
LA3505 from Bogota to Sao Paulo, 2136-0534 (scheduled 2130-0550)
Didn't put them on AV8383 from Panama City to Bogota (1045-1214) because they would probably have made it on AV249 from Bogota to Sao Paulo (1500-2310).

London/Logan
The Insider video had them at Gate 32 in Bogota, so they took AV85 from Bogota to Sao Paulo, 2203-0558 (scheduled 2204-0615)
The most logical flight from Panama City to Bogota (on the same airline) would have been AV8375 from Panama City to Bogota, 1738-1917 (scheduled 1750-1920), the same flight as Mike/Liz.

Becca/Floyd, Joey/Tara (shown on a Copa flight, and arriving after London/Logan)
CM749 from Panama City to Sao Paulo, 2130-0628 (scheduled 2114-0620)

Jessie/Francesca (London/Logan say they transferred via Mexico City in their Insider video)
AM625 from Panama City to Mexico City, 1606-2007 (scheduled 1615-1950)
AM14 from Mexico City to Sao Paulo, 0048-1227 (scheduled 2325-1055)
Wow, an extra 1h30 delay on top of a late scheduled arrival!

If you're offering then I'd love confirmation of the speculated flights to Hanoi - my guess was VN 36 (FRA to HAN) while Scott and Brooke debated about a two connection sequence that ended with VN 54 (LHR to HAN), mainly if they're 75 minutes apart (if so VN 36 is our flight and if not I give up  :groan:)
