Don't forget teams and crews had to clear Customs at ORD. On a busy holiday weekend. With a lot of events in Chicago on this particular holiday weekend, especially downtown.

The sighting at O'Hare was at 11:29am, 2 Jul 2016.

Possibly Anchorage?
30 Jun: Leg 10 Seoul
1 Jul: Depart Seoul in evening...
1 Jul (again): Arrive Anchorage in afternoon, Leg 11 Anchorage
2 Jul: CI5238 from Anchorage to Chicago (0225-1039), Leg 12 Chicago

But Seoul was leg 11. Unless Africs was one leg.

I think the possibility of Tanzania being one leg is higher than production making this a 13-leg race though!
I am 100% sure there was another leg between Seoul and Chicago.

I was wrong? ???
Do we have a 13-leg race? Or did they make the last Pit Stop a really, really long one instead of the usual short one?

I believe that flight was a freighter, not a passenger. I'll post a bit for a non-stop flight from Seoul to Chicago.

Noebie,

I didn't think that any trans-pacific passenger flights stopped in Anchorage any more.

Only freighters now a days. This is mainly because they are loaded a lot heavier than the passenger flights.

They could have done Seoul-Narita-Chicago......that way they at least get on an American codeshare to Chicago on JAJL.

Maybe 1/2 leg in Seoul and1/2 leg in Toyko..........I am sure we will find/figure it out before preimer night

Tokyo Narita airport did offer two non-stop flights on July 2nd.

ANA Airlines NH12 (NRT-ORD)
Scheduled: 1045 (Jul 2) - 0825 (Jul 2)
Actual: 1040 (Jul 2) - 0805 (Jul 2)

JAL Airlines JL10 (NRT-ORD)
Scheduled: 1110 (Jul 2) - 0905 (Jul 2)
Actual: 1110 (Jul 2) - 0846 (Jul 2)

BUT I doubt teams take this flight since teams only sighted around afternoon and both flights arrival time from Tokyo Narita were MUCH EARLIER than the non-stop flights from Seoul to Chicago.

Korean Air KE37 (ICN - ORD)
Scheduled: 1040 (Jul 2 2016) - 0935 (Jul 2 2016)
Actual: 1100 (Jul 2 2016) - 0947 (Jul 2 2016)

Further search there's more flights from Seoul to Chicago but need a airport connection. (IIRC someone said they only started to get sighted around 2.00pm CDT and thus any connection flights that arrived Chicago after 2.00pm is ignored since they would need some time for custom clearance)

Airport connection via Shanghai (ICN - PVG - ORD)
Korean Air KE893 (ICN - PVG)
Scheduled: 0835 (Jul 2) - 0940 (Jul 2)
Actual: 0906 (Jul 2) - 0953 (Jul 2)
OR
China Eastern Airlines MU5052 (ICN - PVG)
Scheduled: 0855 (Jul 2) - 0930 (Jul 2)
Actual: 0913 (Jul 2) - 1022 (Jul 2)
THEN
China Eastern Airlines MU717 (PVG - ORD)
Scheduled: 1140 (Jul 2) - 1240 (Jul 2)
Actual: 1159 (Jul 2) - 1301 (Jul 2)

Airport connection via Beijing (ICN - PEK - ORD)
Asiana Airlines OZ331 (ICN - PEK)
Scheduled: 0840 (Jul 2) - 0940 (Jul 2)
Actual: 0908 (Jul 2) - 0945 (Jul 2)
OR
China Southern Airlines CZ316 (ICN - PEK)
Scheduled: 0810 (Jul 2) - 0915 (Jul 2)
Actual: 0809 (Jul 2) - 0914 (Jul 2)
THEN
Hainan Airlines HU497 (PEK - ORD)
Scheduled: 1340 (Jul 2) - 1320 (Jul 2)
Actual: 1349 (Jul 2) - 1340 (Jul 2)

Airport connection via Detroit (ICN - DTW - ORD)
Delta Airlines DL158 (ICN - DTW)
Scheduled: 1025 (Jul 2) - 1020 (Jul 2)
Actual: 1024 (Jul 2) - 1007 (Jul 2)
THEN
Delta Airlines DL6283 (DTW - ORD)
Scheduled: 1210 (Jul 2) - 1239 (Jul 2)
Actual: 1210 (Jul 2) - 1232 (Jul 2)

I suspect teams most likely take the flight with connection either Beijing or Shanghai (and outside chance connecting Detroit) because of the time they start to get sighted. While production might take the earlier flights including the non-stop flights from Seoul to Chicago.

The train routes from Venice to Bari are:
Frecciabianca 35801 from Venice to Bari, 0657-1432
-or-
Frecciarossa 9407 from Venice to Bologna, 0725-0850
Frecciabianca 35803 from Bologna to Bari, 0942-1521
-or-
Regionale Veloce 2227 from Venice Mestre to Bologna, 0754-0940
Intercity 605 from Bologna to Bari, 0958-1700
-or-
Frecciargento 9415 from Venice to Bologna, 0925-1050
Frecciabianca 35807 from Bologna to Bari, 1142-1721
-or-
Frecciarossa 9419 from Venice to Bologna, 1025-1150
Frecciabianca 35809 from Bologna to Bari, 1242-1823

The Superfast ferry from Bari to Greece follows this schedule:
Depart Bari at Thu 23 Jun 7:30pm
Arrive Corfu at Fri 24 Jun 4:30am
Arrive Igoumenitsa at 6:00am
Arrive Patras at 1:00pm

Although unlikely Volotea does daily flights from Venice to Bari. The flight lands in Bari at 16:25 which gives teams 3 hours to get to the ferry.

Indeed. The teams likely taking the Alitalia flight from Venice to Bari with a stop in Rome on June 23rd.

AZ 1466 VCE-FCO 1230-1335 (scheduled 1210-1325)
AZ 1613 FCO-BRI 1544-1700 (scheduled 1435-1535)

Then, ferry from Bari to Patras as we know.

Would the most likely option be one of the many trains that run via Hanoi & Ninh Binh. These take roughly 2 hours.

Leg 2 transportation

Since Flightstats can't access to historical flight data on the actual date of filming (it requires a subscription to access the data).

Dates between June 12 and 13, 2016

Flight 2: CM 725 PTY-GRU 1542-0045+1
Flight 3: CM 517 PTY-BOG 1545-1726 >> JJ 8001 BOG-GRU 2120-0530+1
Flight 4: CM 493 PTY-LIM 1546-1919 >> AV 917 LIM-GRU 2200-0450+1
Flight 5: CM 703 PTY-GRU 1827-0330+1
Flight 6: CM 759 PTY-GRU 2124-0620+1 (Jessie and Francesca)

Based on the episode, it looked like Matt and Redmond and Ashton and Vanck got on the 1542-0045 and Sara and Shamir, Seth and Olive, and Brooke and Scott got on one that got in at that was supposed to arrive at 0330 (which I think is the 1827-0330). Also, according to Becca and Floyd and London's recap videos, Jessie and Francesca's flight got in 4 hours after the other teams (which I assume means 4 hours after Flight #5)

Filling in some of the gaps in Claude's itineraries, plus spec of my own

Dates between June 12 and 13, 2016

The only ways I can justify taking the direct GRU-JNB flight and all get bunched (?) at the ferry terminal in dusk per the sneak peek are

1) a task or tasks in Dar es Salaam upon arrival; while there's precedent of this (TAR 27) I feel like why bother when there's definitely a leg in Dar already planned? Or
2) teams miss the first flight out to Dar; this ALSO has precedent (TAR 11) and I think production 'built in' the extra time with the ferry to account for unexpected flight drama. I suspect some teams made their way on

SA 223 GRU JNB 1800 0725 (+1)
SA 188 JNB DAR 1335 1755 (+1)

which fits with the twilight scene at the ferry.

Rewatched the ep and it turns out teams were on SA 188  :bunny

After seeing that, plus the previews, I figured 'why not see how flights are impacted if teams depart from DAR?'; as it turns out it makes things substantially easier. I suspect teams will have an extended Pit Stop, allowing Phil to take this flight on the 17th and teams on the 18th

KL0569 DAR AMS 2310 0745(19th)
KL1325 AMS AES 0940 1140(19th)

which fits production's tendency to have a 'simple' way out of Africa, especially since I'm sure they remembered the trauma of flying out of DES in All Stars (<3).

I suspect they were split onto

- ferry A: 1230 1430 (most teams)
- ferry B: 1530 1730 (Shamir & Sara)

Sunset was around 1815 on 6/17 so it fits the darkening skies as Phil goes out to eliminate them.

The leg was not on 6/18, it was the 17th. Phil left Tanzania that same night after S&S eliminated.

Apologies, Claude :)

Also, on the question of 'how do teams get to LHR to fly to MXP', here's a thought:

- teams drive from Alesund to Andalsnes (108 km, roughly 1:36, and since it's a relatively 'safe' area with a late sunset, everyone should be able to make the drive by the end of 6/19)
- teams travel by train from Andalsnes to Oslo
-- Andalsnes to Lillehammer    0738 1055
-- Lillehammer to Oslo Central 1114 1326
- teams fly from Oslo to Milan, connecting in London. My guess is
-- BA767 OSL LHR 1725 1850
-- BA582 LHR MXP 2056 2357 (confirmed through sightings), where they're stopped by an hours of operation.

Any team that is sufficiently speedy could wind up on

SK1471 OSL CPH 1510 1620
SK0687 CPH MXP 1710 1915, or

KL1218 TRF AMS 1625 1810
KL1637 AMS MXP 2100 2240

but in either case they would still likely be bunched.

So maybe that's explain Phil come to RB location and eliminate S&S on the spot because S&S fall behind like 3 hours from the other teams due to missing the first ferry that cause S&S just barely arrived DES when the first seven teams are already checked in around sunset and Phil want to take the same day flight out of DES several hours later.

From Londons recap we learned that Seth & Olive were on the same boat from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam as Shamir & Sara. Since the latter were still racing Seth & Olive were forced to stay belowdecks.

Zack, the best option was the teams took the train from Andalsnes to Oslo Airport Station on the 20th of June.

Andalsnes-Lillehammer, 0738-1055
Lillehammer-Oslo Airport, 1212-1401
